The Collapse of American Journalism

Any honest consumer of American journalism has known for years that it tends to tilt left but in this presidential news cycle it has removed all pretense of trying to being remotely unbiased with its coverage. Whether or not you like Donald Trump is irrelevant to the fact that journalists are supposed to strive to be impartial. No longer, it semms.

Indeed, no foreign enemy, no terror group, no native criminal gang, suffers the daily beating that Trump does. The mad mullahs of Iran, who call America the Great Satan and vow to wipe Israel off the map, are treated gently by comparison.
By torching its remaining credibility in service of Clinton, the mainstream media’s reputations will likely never recover, nor will the standards. No future producer, editor, reporter or anchor can be expected to meet a test of fairness when that standard has been trashed in such willful and blatant fashion.
Liberal bias in journalism is often baked into the cake. The traditional ethos of comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable leads to demands that government solve every problem. Favoring big government, then, becomes routine among most journalists, especially young ones.

  1. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. It’s not that the bias hasn’t been there before, but that more people are noticing and starting to pay attention. It only takes being close to a story and seeing it miss-reported once before you start to wonder if other stories are covered the same way.

  2. Bias is human, non of us are free of bias, but this article points to intentional bias by “reporters” of news. In sveden they admit to this bias, and justify it. In Germany they also admit to intentional bias. But then 75% plus, of journalists are lefties.

  3. And speaking of dropping any pretence of neutrality, how about that disgusting display during the Hip concert last night? I mean, it’s one thing for the pothead Gordo to recommend the Ponce as Prince of Canada for the next 12 years. Then the oh-so-obviously-staged shot of Boy Wonder, gazing down like a Hapsburg upon a particularly great soloist onstage at the Vienna Opera House…..jeepers creepers! Just a little over-the-top dontcha think, oh legions of CBC producers?
And speaking of ponces, a young fella named Justin walked into a London pub the other day…….

  4. There are two types of voters – those who believe the media narrative of the moment, (include Hollywood, TV, and music as media) and those who know they are being intentionally lied to. Elections are decided upon this simple fact.

  5. Journalism does not exist…The PUNKS are cheap-shot artists…The fourth estate has become a joke of a dysfunctional democracy….Hollywood characters playing clown journalists
    Nothing Worth Knowing….

  6. Some of us have realized for decades that the media is in the tank for the Marxist ideology. Lately it has just become more rabid and open, like a rabid skunk.
The leftist Guardian reporter interviewed by Breitbart reporter Matthew Boyle is at least honest enough to admit to the open bias.
In the case of Brexit, hopefully the British people do not allow their new leadership to steal their vote. Also, hopefully enough American people realize what is going on and give their media and the Borgia Clinton mafia the finger.
Lambgoat, rest assured that Soros allowed his Canadian flunky Trudeau to attend this concert as he had more important things to do like pulling more governmental strings in other places.

  7. Why would that be ironic? That late Andrew Breitbart’s entire career was about taking the battle to the media which Andrew said was “the True Enemy”.
If you think that it’s ironic that the website that Andrew Breitbart started continues to do the work that it was created for after Andrew’s untimely death, than perhaps you should look up the definition of the word ‘ironic’ because you do not understand what it means.

  8. Journalism has always had bias. The nature of the editorial is bias opinion. All newspapers reflect the values of their audience. Tell them what they want to hear.
In Canada we have all kinds of example of historical bias. George Brown founding father and also of the globe made no attempt to conceal his liberal bias. Eye Opener Bob Edwards here in early Alberta had strong opinions and William Randolph Hurst…..
We here on SDA are quick to take a liberal to the wood shed.
My way of dealing with it….quit reading/listening/watching. Go fishing.

  9. For years, though, there was the pretense of being fair and balanced. I remember when PBS’s “Newshour” was worth watching, but that was when Robert McNeil and Jim Lehrer were in charge.
I used to be a monitor for the BBC World Service when it was still on shortwave. Back then it was worth listening to and the productions had some dignity and class.
However, ever since the Beeb moved everything over to the Internet, it sounded just like a Top-40 commercial station. I stopped listening a few years ago and, by then, the announcers nearly salivated with delight each time O’Bummer did something, anything.
Sadly, the CBC, which used to be the one domestic radio station I almost always listened to, went the same way.

  10. Just think. These journos and news reporting organizations are rolling in the pig shit to support their ideological leader, no matter what harm she and he does to them. Just remember, when the Chinese ICBM descends on your town, that hillary and bill got paid millions of dollars to sell them the guidance technology to hit your town. Instead of raising theological prayers to them, they should have been dragged out, tried for treason, and executed. Oh, I forgot, treason can not apply to the Clits. If any of these pukes survive the missile strikes, please remember what to do.

  11. They don’t have to sell the technology to them. Internal espionage can do quite a lot of damage.
In the last 25 years, I’ve noticed how universities have hired an increasing number of foreign-born faculty, with the approval of our political leaders. Many of them are from countries whose political ideologies are not friendly to us. Since many corporations no longer have internal research and development departments, and, instead, farm those tasks out to universities, imagine how easy it would be for certain secrets to fall into the wrong hands.

  12. B – The earliest example of network bias I’m aware of is the CBC coverage of blockades and land claims around my hometown in northern BC. It started in the 70’s. Selective editing was used to make the coverage more dramatic. Those who were actually talking and trying to sort it out at a local level didn’t get covered, the firebrands did. I haven’t trusted CBC coverage of anything since I was a teen.
ABTrapper – “Journalism has always had bias. The nature of the editorial is bias opinion. All newspapers reflect the values of their audience.” That used to be the way. That’s also why newspapers are going broke now, they’re not reflecting the values of their audience but trying to shape them. And the papers aren’t being very effective at or subtle about it. Their audience is leaving them because the audience doesn’t agree with the bias. That’s why Fox News did so well when they started – in the news opinion shows you could hear a centrist, a left-winger, and a right-winger in the space of a couple of hours. They didn’t try to hide the different views, they openly stated them and let the viewer decide.

  13. Khan, the “father” of the Paki bomb used to “work” at a Dutch lab, in the Netherlands, and that is were he got most of information to build said bomb. Yah, the Tulip Chokers, are mostly lefties, and therefore didn’t consider not trusting him.

  14. Biased journalism is one thing, there is really no law against expressing a bias, but publishing a wave of disinfo, slanderous innuendo and suppressing pertinent facts in order to sway an election is actionable misconduct that can be prosecuted.
The first amendment doesn’t protect propagandists. I hope president Trump cleans up the MSM by pulling licensing and prosecuting the worst offenders – and they know who they are.

  15. “…they’re not reflecting the values of their audience but trying to shape them.”
Exactly. This is what I began to seriously notice in the 1980s, especially with CBC, and in fact confronted them in the hallway of the downtown Holiday Inn in Saskatoon during a rural municipal convention in the 1980s. In the evening TV news they had totally misrepresented a convention debate item the previous day and I told them so. They said we report it the way we see it.
As you say, FoxNews at least has the different ideologies represented when debating issues. Not like here or in the rest of the media where they just stroke each other in a mutual …..
Those above that say media has always been biased are right, but never previously has it been almost totally left wing orientated. Even the British Telegram was opposed to Brexit, and in Canada, the National Post had more opinion pieces against Harper during last fall’s federal election than they had for him.

  16. Even earlier was Klaus Fuchs who worked at Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project and gave Stalin all the information he needed to make his own bomb.
He was a communist and the son of a Lutheran clergyman. (Gee, don’t we know of a certain European leader with a similar background?)

  17. “Some of us have realized for decades that the media is in the tank for the Marxist ideology.”
President Johnson told his staff that “the communists already control the three major networks and the forty major outlets of communication.” He complained to his Press Secretary Bill Moyers that “the communist way of thinking” had infected everyone around him.

  18. Gord Downie has the excuse of a brain tumour. Trudeau is just a moron who managed to upstage a dying man. He will do so at the funeral, too.
It’s no surprise that the leftist popular press excoriates Trump at every turn. They did so with Bush, Palin, Harper, et al.The bias now is even more vile than one can remember. The ovine masses lap it up. They will still be present when Trump is sworn in.

  19. Prince Spawn is merely following Theodore Roosevelt’s example. It was said of TR that he wanted to be “the bride at every wedding and corpse at every funeral”.

  20. Johnson was the man who at least gave the Go-Ahead order to assassinate JFK and then created and led the cover-up of the assassination.
“The CIA is made up of boys whose families sent them to Princeton but wouldn’t let them into the family brokerage business.”
    ~Lyndon B. Johnson
And how after all this time has the lid been kept on this HUGE secret?
“One lesson you better learn if you want to be in politics is that you never go out on a golf course and beat the President.”
    ~Lyndon B. Johnson

  21. Because Andrew Breitbart’s legacy died this campaign season, when Breitbart.com’s Bannon sold the site to Trump in January.

  22. I don’t know if he “gave” the go ahead, but he sure was in on the plan. There was quite probably a second shooter on the grass knoll, and some researchers think he may have been a Johnson man. There was quite possibly 7 shooters that day, and quite possibly 7 cells. Each shooter being unawares of his fellow shooters.
Ford was on the Warren commission, and fully aware of what was going on, at least after the fact. And Ford bailed out Nixon’s ass. And Nixon was a friend of Jack Ruby. And Ruby was a connected (gun running) Jew from Chicago. But if you ask K99 HLO was alone wolf:-)))

  23. Sorry to rain on the parade a bit but…
the average citizen – the average under informed voter – when they read horrible things about Trump ( as there used to be about Bush or Reagan ) does not see it as exaggerations/ false/distortions and does not see a bias…they see it as the main stream media simply saying things that are ( to their little brainwashed head ) obviously true, that everyone knows are true and that are as true as the sun is hot and water is wet.
Have a conversation with the average voter, or better yet the average liberal/left voter and you will see.
they are like 6 year olds at a magician show, they truly believe the woman in the box had 17 sword in her and then was magically healed a second before she jumped out of the box.
the average citizen believes the main stream media is saying those things about Trump ( Bush. Reagan, Sarah Palin etc ) because those things are 100% true
and anything bad said about Obama or Hillary is simply fabrications by the evil right
and of course they truly believe being on the right is pure evil and that we conservatives would hang from trees every non -whites if we could and that we will help Trump build internment camps
Try it, talk to a regular voter, a regular liberal voter
they live in a parallel universe, where 90 % of what they believe is completely false and does not exist.
liberals are pretty much a different species, their brains are different than ours.
they are super gullible and brainwashing works on them super easily.
and when you try to tell them they have been brainwashed they see you as the bad guy who is delusional
no amount of evidence or logical arguments can affect their faith in leftism/liberalism
global warmists another bunch of under informed leftists are the best example, they reject science , facts, logic and chose to belive in their cult or their voodoo.

  24. “..Yah, the Tulip Chokers, are mostly lefties, and therefore didn’t consider not trusting him…”
I happen to be Dutch – born there and about as conservative as it gets sonny boy….your generality Highlights your outright arrogant stupidity …of the kind that Liberals love to bash us with.
    Tulip choker eh..??
    Get F’kd Gooph…

  25. Nobody could have covered the conspiracy up except the POTUS. Instead of an up-and-up investigation we get the Warren Commission.
Even after the Abraham Zapruder(a Jew) film was made public 12years later, it is a known fact that Zapruder was one of at least 32 people in Dealey Plaza known to have made film or still photographs at or around the time of the shooting.
None of these people were called to testify before the Warren Commission even though they had surely witnessed, as well as shooting footage, that was confiscated by the U.S. Secret Service.
Where are these other films and photos? They have all been DISAPPEARED by the United States Government of which Lyndon Johnson was the Chief Executive.
This film footage should be in the Smithsonian Institute or the Library of Congress instead of having being made to disappear.

  26. *The MAGIC BULLET* which is credited for going through JFK’s upper back,(thoracic vertebrae) then exiting out of Kennedy’s throat, then entering Texas Governor Connally’s back and piercing Texas Governor Connally’s right chest cavity collapsing Governor Connally’s right lung,(where it shattered Connally’s rib) exiting the Governor’s chest and then piercing the Governor’s wrist,(shattering wrist bones) after which the bullet then somehow turned and entered Governor Connally’s left thigh and stayed there as of the time of this TV interview on November 22nd 1963.
This bullet, dubbed ‘the Magic Bullet’ is the bullet on display at the Smithsonian Institute Site on the JFK Assassination and is officially billed as the bullet that did all of the above damage.
Skeptics criticize this bullet as being too “pristine” and not a credible example of a bullet that has gone through 2 men, including bone structure on each of these adult men, while bearing almost ZERO scratches or losing mass, let alone the sort of fragmentation a real bullet would have had it followed such a pathway.
November 22, 1963 – Dr. Robert Shaw, Governor John Connally’s surgeon, Press Conference Parkland
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-CDLl82n-E
The above link is to the TV interview of Dr. Robert Shaw who was the Chief Surgeon who worked on JFK earlier in the day(JFK quickly expired) and then went on to perform long hours of surgery on Texas Governor Connally the same day.
In this TV interview you will hear of the damage the Magic Bullet did, and you will also hear @4:50 how the bullet that did this damage WAS STILL IN GOVERNOR CONNALLY’S THIGH at the time that the official story says that the Magic Bullet was found on a lone stretcher in a Parkland Memorial Hospital hallway and then went on to have ‘the Single Bullet Theory’ built around it and memorialized in the Warren Commission Report finally ending up in the Smithsonian Institute.

  27. I disagree.
Any newspaper that refuses to reflect the opinion/political bias of it’s readers (community) will soon be out of business. No more ads to sell and the shareholders wont be happy. That said it’s why the Star sells in Ontario and the Journal in Edmonton. Those are liberal audiences. You start with the conservative rhetoric and – see ya later. Oh sure they (news organizations) are clever enough to have a Gunter or Wente on staff to present the ‘other side’ but they are cannon fodder much like Rex Murphy on the cbc.
You can’t sell opinion to readers who aren’t buying. No more than a liberal hack who shows up on SDA spewing progressive ideology. Were not buying or listening.
The world is a very liberal/progressive place. That is why this BS sells. You graduate from J/school, get a job with a news organization and what, your suddenly an opinion maker? You know what’s going on? You’ve read a book? Formed an opinion based on experience? Sorry, your probably regurgitating the shit you heard in some classroom spouted by some ‘prof’ who couldn’t cut it in the real world. And the minute you submit something to your editor that doesn’t fit with the ‘party line’ your going to rewrite it and the second time you will be on the obituary beat.
These people aren’t selling liberal bias to ‘us’, they are speaking to their audience who are more than receptive.
Correction Ken, In the last election the National Post declared for Harper.

  28. “Correction Ken, In the last election the National Post declared for Harper.”
Agreed, the paper did come out for Harper, but Ivison, et al wrote more opinion pieces against Harper than for. Even McParland wrote pieces against Harper.

  29. I have noted that the BBC has become useless, with Leftist nonsense. These days as-Jazeera may be the best for North Amerian news. It is somewhat biased but the bias is utterly predictable and not as strong as the Blubb and Wail let alone the NYT.

  30. Well prostitution apparently is a “accidental” career choice.
Presstitution is a deliberate career choice.
Now that their actions have become so obvious to so may buyers, their sales are collapsing.
Why pay a subscription for lies, inuendo and propaganda?
Gossip is freely available, endlessly. So why pay for more missinformation of this same?
    As for buying the lie?
Perhaps the socialist mantra needs a little more exposure, of course the upcoming financial collapse might help a few who say, politics do not affect me, to wise up.
In fat and lazy times, corruption and bureaucracy run rampant.
When they collapse the trust and thus the trade trust permits, public tolerance for thieves, fools and parasites..collapses as well.
Under current conditions enjoy the decline.
The religion of safety(OH&S) and federal government legislation, criminalizing employment(C45), are accelerating the exodus of productive persons from the official work force.
Face it, if you face a year in jail and $500 000 in fines for accidently hiring a suicidal nitwit(Standard product of government run education system).
What income level do you need? To cover this risk?
Where is the reward for creating new jobs and new skills?
New age politics..perscuting the productive and destroying (contract) law.

  31. Ken – precisely. My point is that newspapers and media outlets usually have an opposing view available to appear balanced. The NP is generally considered to be on the ‘right’ side of the ledger. The editorial bias overtly supported Harper but at the same time allowed for some dissenting articles to be published.
I’m no fan of todays main stream journo. They are for the most part an endangered species. It’s difficult to find an article let alone a publication that presents Conservative view. Conservative thought today is usually found in bits and bites in liberal publications. It’s a sad case really but reflects the view of the overwhelming progressive population.
