60 Replies to “Long May She Reign”

  1. I remember her Christmas message years ago; she spoke about taking months to tour the world on the royal yacht as a young girl, and how now she flies the same route in a matter of hours. She has seen much in her years, and despite the unfortunate antics of some of her off-spring, she remains the epitome of class.
One of the many reasons I found Trudeau pere revolting was his disgraceful and rude pirouette behind the Queen’s back when he held the position of Prime Minister. She has more dignity in her little finger than can be found in PET, the Dauphin, and his mother combined.

  2. May all Canadian Serfs and Subjects take this opportunity to bow down and genuflect to their congenitally retarded foreign unelected masters. May God continue to bless the Supreme Ruler of all Canadians and continue to pay cash tribute on every barrel of oil produced, tree cut down, bushel of grain harvested, fish caught in the ocean, and of course every purchase made.

  3. Retarded, foreign, unelected masters.
Boy, you really got a chubby on for Tom Mulcair, don’t ya?

  4. I take it you’d rather bow to an elected partisan master who steals the cash tribute from you.

  5. I would advise all defenders of the Canadians Foreign Retard to brush up on Canadian civics and history before commenting. Also see Stockholm Syndrome on Wikipedia.
    That is all, carry on.

  6. I well remember an anecdote from Robert Morley’s “Book of Bricks”, in which he spoke to a young woman whom he vaguely recognized.
“How’s the family business going?”, he asked.
“Not too badly, actually”, came the response. “My sister’s still Queen.”
At which point, he wrote, he walked off the balcony and did a face plant.
    Or words to that effect.
Thanks for the post, Kate: very appropriate, and thank’s for letting me comment here.

  7. Her Majesty has been the most useful, positive, and inspiring infrastructure investment made by any UK or other Commonwealth government. Long, indeed, may she reign. Unfortunate, however, that she cannot pass the sceptre to the Princess Royal.

  8. Sucks, don’t it, when denied the big sceptre. Lifetime of royal apartments, living allowances way beyond the ordinary man’s salary, and never having to take responsibility in the figurehead position to which one is appointed. Poor little Princess Royals. :o(

  9. I figured that the Bolos would come out on this topic. I expect that they would prefer a First Secretary.

  10. Every day of my first year of school was ended with we students singing a round of “God Save the Queen”.
I regularly wondered what the threat was. It turns out she had very little to endanger and cut short her life. Well done, old dear.

  11. I was 10 years old when she was crowned. I remember watching the (black & white, 12″) TV. We could listen to the audio real-time. The media (literally) filmed the event and put the films onboard a Lockheed Super Constellation. The films were developed enroute to the US and broadcast shortly after the plane arrived. I thought it was pretty cool at the time.

  12. I suspect most people do not understand or appreciate her symbolic value and the advantage our society derives from the monarchy, well, here it is: The political party in power does not own the country.

  13. Mark Steyn has a good column on QEII.

I remember, years ago, being told by a Hampstead intellectual that the problem with the Queen was that she was too middle class. Today, for Britain’s elites, monarchy is simply too, too common. For most of the rest of us, by comparison with all the alternatives, Elizabeth II has been for 63 years about the least worst person to have to live under.

  14. You know what, if the “Queen” has any say in our collective futures, it won’t be “God Save the Queen” much longer, but instead it will be Allahu ackbar!

  15. It never ceases to amaze me how the most “Canada First/Canadian Nationalist/Canada is the Greatest/Canadian Republic” crowd does not seem to appreciate the fact that the only reason is there is a Canada is because there is a Britain and Britain had a Royal Navy. It was the stated policy of the United States until the 1920s that Canada should be absorbed by the Manifest Destiny of the United States. The Fenian raids post Civil War, The War of 1812 etc. We owe so much for the liberties we enjoy because of the previous record holder (HM Queen Victoria) and her heirs and successors.
I say God Bless you Your Majesty. May you reign in health and happiness for many more years. (Also, can we skip your son and go direct to William)

P.S. Say hi to Phil for me

  16. Never had a problem with the aristocracy as a whole. Monarchy has always been the least harmful to the people. When the Jews asked their God for a king, He merely reminded them that he would take a tenth of their profits and a tenth of their young men, crops and etc., but that, if that is what they wanted he had no problem so long as they didn’t set him above HIM.

  17. Elizabethh II became queen nine years before I entered the work force and I am now retired on a pension. She really did inherit a lousy retirement plan! Under her rule, I have managed to “live long and prosper” from receiving my commemorative coronation beaker as a student to receiving the Diamond Jubilee Medal. I am honoured to have served under her and earned a Queen’s Commission. Long live the Queen.

  18. “Her detractors in these comments have shamed no one but themselves. ”
You know what JJM, they aren’t even real detractors. Forty years ago serial jerkers like these guys used to get their endless jollies with skin mags. Nowadays they just throw stupid shit on blogs and yank their little pudds off.

  19. Tried to comment earlier but was told it was awaiting moderation. Wondering if I’ve done something to really upset someone. I don’t recall posting anything that was “really bad” Certainly not of the same flavor as Mr. McMaster above!

  20. All of this monarchist sentiment will last about five minutes into the reign of Charles IV. Of course, the way things are going, that may never start. God save the Queen!!

  21. All of this monarchist sentiment will last about five minutes into the reign of the idiot son. Of course, that’s not guaranteed to start and William might be okay. God save the Queen and the younger successor.

  22. Charles is an unlucky name for the English royals. Some ending up considerably shorter at the end of the reign

  23. Shut up, haters. I may just purge this thread.
Institutions like the Monarchy help anchor us to our past, and support the foundations of civilization. Living museum pieces at their worst, inspirational rocks of stability at their best, when our lives rest on the whim of the most recent pathological narcissist to lie themselves into office, the example Elizabeth provides of a life lived in duty to others deserves nothing but respect.

  24. The Head of State assents to the appointment of the head of Ontario’s government selected from a short list of one candidate chosen by the voters of Ontario. Voters who are smart like you.

  25. “The media (literally) filmed the event and put the films onboard a Lockheed Super Constellation. The films were developed enroute to the US and broadcast shortly after the plane arrived. I thought it was pretty cool at the time”
That Media was the NBC Network, the back story is truly classic.
The 30 Rock corner Irish Pub Hurley’s played a key role because it was “THE” NBC watering hole. The Plane & Film Processing was provided by RCA and a secret, even the film crews in London did not know that the film was been sent directly to the airport. The NBC crew expenses were funded, up front, by Hurly because even NBC finance was not trusted to keep the secret…
    Hurley’s Saloon[edit]
Original plans for Rockefeller Center called for construction on the site of Hurley’s Saloon, at the corner of 49th Street and Sixth Avenue. But the Hurley brothers refused to sell their lease. After they rebuffed several lucrative offers, Rockefeller was finally forced to redesign the plans for his 70-story centerpiece, the RCA building (now the GE building), in order to build around the tiny four-story saloon. Impressed by the bar owners’ determination to stand up to the powerful financier, journalists from the nearby offices of the Associated Press and NBC began frequenting Hurley’s, making it a kind of unofficial newsroom for decades, until the bar relocated to the Theater District in 1999.

  26. Amen! And to KevinB, and yop.
“She has more dignity in her little finger than can be found in PET, the Dauphin, and his mother combined.”

  27. …the example Elizabeth provides of a life lived in duty to others deserves nothing but respect.
Yes, absolutely. If only more would, or could, do their jobs so well.
Building, and not tearing down as leftists are so fond of doing.

  28. yop >
“I suspect most people do not understand or appreciate her symbolic value and the advantage our society derives from the monarchy,”
    The Saudis agree.

  29. So Kate McMillan calls people who disagree with her haters and threatens to take her ball and go home. I find the fawning over an unelected plutocrat master of the Canadian people almost as repugnant as the construct itself.
Canada needs to shed is peon roots and become an independent Republic where every leader is not appointed but elected by the people. Who could possibly disagree with that?

  30. It’s my understanding that during WWII her father wanted her to stay in the palace and focus on preparing herself to one day be Queen but she argued persistently until he relented and allowed her to become a mechanic and truck driver. I’d like to know how many of her detractors, being given the opportunity to sit out the war in relative comfort and safety, would have done the same. Judging by the actions of her grandsons, it appears that that spirit has survived at least a couple more generations.
I appreciate all the negative aspects of a hereditary monarchy. Sadly, when allowed to choose our own rulers, we’ve frequently done worse than one who would have been given to us by birthright.
