  1. So you are saying that Canadians are too stupid to choose and manage their own destiny and anybody who says otherwise is a moron?

  2. Well, any Canadian who is actually credulous enough to believe that somehow we cannot manage our own destiny simply because we live in a constitutional monarchy can’t be taken seriously, that’s for sure.
As if we daily sit in drooling envy at the outstanding success of all those magnificent republics around us.

  3. Canada needs to shed is peon roots and become an independent Republic where every leader is not appointed but elected by the people. Who could possibly disagree with that?
You’re in need of a leader, are you? Indecisive, are you?
Lotta fraccers in the world, go along following taillights. Saw a whole line of them in the ditch once.

  4. So you are saying that Canadians are too stupid to choose and manage their own destiny and anybody who says otherwise is a moron?
I didn’t say any of that, but if someone were to choose to self-identify as a moron through an obvious lack of both reading comprehension and awareness of the failure of the electorate to elect competent politicians, I certainly wouldn’t presume to contradict him.

  5. The monarchy is a ridiculous, centuries long game of adult dress up. These are not special people. None of us need them. America became the strongest country on earth while holding spite for these fakes. Make them go get jobs and bring on the Republic of Canada. Enough of this charade.

  6. But you still clamor for a ‘leader’…someone who will give you national direction. Men who know no more about what the future holds than you do. Everyone wants a daddy. heh

  7. “America became the strongest country on earth while holding spite for these fakes.”
Never mind of course that the British Empire became the “strongest country on earth” with these self-same “fakes” as heads of state.

  8. The amount of plain ignorance in this thread about the British monarchy in general, and our own monarch in particular, and the stupidity of some of the comments is remarkable—by which I mean “disgusting”. Redtapehater and JJM, among others, should be ashamed of themselves. Kate, Andy N and JJM, well said: I’m proud to be a fellow citizen of yours.
Kate’s point re: the “glue” that can hold a people together is well taken. Every one of us, and many more around the world and for centuries, owes more to Great Britain than we can know, and more than we will ever be able to repay.
We stand on their shoulders; we reap the benefits of their intelligence, good judgement, hard work and sacrifice. Yet some of us prefer to sneer at all that. They are just so impressed with themselves that they prefer the lie that they’d be better off without that history. Well, if you think so, take a good luck around you.
Anyone with eyes to see knows that self-government requires an aptitude that is not equally distributed among us. The big lie of liberal democracy is that each of us is born equally well-equipped to live a worthwhile life if left to our own resources. Well, if, like some of the commenters above, you haven’t yet thought your way out of that falsehood, have a look around at your allegedly self-governing neighbours, many of whom will, in the next weeks, vote for Justin, or for the Communist, or god knows for what other horror. When they do, come back here and tell us again how much better off a free people would be without the good judgement and wisdom that we are so lucky to have in our own history.

“Oh, I forgot to say, “You smug, self-satisfied, cretinous little sh!ts””
Would love to see you say that to the face of my Irish great grandfather. He didn’t care for the English monarchy much either, but he did help found the great nation of Canada despite them. Both grandfathers fought and were wounded in WW2, for Canada, not Britain.
I don’t comment much on these “Royal” threads any more than I do religious ones for similar reasons, but sometimes the sanctimonious BS flows hard enough I push back.
The English are not a “great” people as a whole today if they ever were, but they did unequivocally produce some great individuals throughout history, there’s no debating it.
The British System was never as good as the initial American Republic before it’s corruption – concerning individual freedom and liberty. The Americans fought a bloody war for it and won remember? They didn’t fight freedom – they won it from the British, as did the Republic of Ireland, India and others.
So there it is, call whoever disagrees with your Royal worship “cretinous little sh!ts”, but remember that there are millions who disagree, many of whom helped found our free NA nations as well.
