  1. Unlike the practioners of 20th century communism this Pope believes it can actually work.
Everything that Pope John Paul preached, like the sanctity of the individual has been tossed aside.

  2. The short answer is, yes he is a communist and Catholic believers are being taken for a ride where they do not want to go. Sad part is, they are stuck with him.

  3. The pope has spent a lifetime selling a product he doesn’t have to show. Jumping on the climate change bandwagon without researching the evidence against his leap of faith and the damage done to the poorest countries shows he’s as susceptible to being brainwashed as anyone else. Unfortunately he’s harming the very people that look to him for guidance. His competency at this point matches Obama’s.

  4. Doesn’t the Bible say don’t screw with Caesar’s stuff? Maybe he should read it some time.

  5. Just another fake pope and who name reminds me of a talking mule that stared ina series of movies back in the 1950’s those who voted him in are fools

  6. Watch for every lefty who cries hard, “SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE, you anti-abortionists!” to now be calling on all gov’ts to pay heed to the Pope….

  7. I’ve said this many times before, but the Catholic Church has traditionally been against capitalism and free markets for most of their existence. The Church profits from their charitable activities on behalf of the poor, which is reasonable. But for the first time in history, people have begun getting wealthier and healthier, and the eradication of poverty is imminent. This is because of capitalism and markets.
The Church is all well and good for helping to feed the poor. Capitalism helps eliminate the poor.
As it happens, this is also the beef of the Left, who have been calling for a class struggle since the dawn of the Industrial Revolution ostensibly as a means to bring dignity to the working class. Except, again, capitalism raised the standard of living for billions of people around the world, which diminishes the assumed need for socialists (or institutional religions).
Unfortunately, these attacks against capitalism and markets will only get more shrill as detractors become more and more irrelevant.
So, to answer Kate’s question, Francis might be a Commie, but it doesn’t matter, because critiques of capitalism from parasitic organizations are all singing the same tune.

  8. Given the results of the last provincial election, I’m predicting his sermons will be a big hit in Alberta. 😉

  9. This Pope, like Obama, loves attention.
Agenda 21: Is It Really Just A Means to One World Government?
Yes it is and the absolute control over fossil fuel energy is the end game here. Control it and you control the modern world.
Word of advice: Get a piece of land and start growing something you can eat and also preserve (Can, bottle, frozen).
The second most important thing to energy is food.
Food could well be the best bartering tool soon.

  10. St Malachy’s Black Pope, for the conspiracy theorists……….as the Catholic Church is in a spiral in the western world, maybe ol “god on earth” is trying to reel in the environutters to his smoky hail Marys…..
In the latter days, it is said that the church would become apostate……hmmmmmmmmm.

  11. Between support for massive illegal immigration, paying gazillions in damages related to gay priests, and now this, I’ve pretty much had it with these commies in robes.

  12. Back when I was a teenager in the 70’s, I lived in a largely Italian Catholic area. We did use the line ‘Is the Pope Catholic’ frequently. When we wanted to make the opposite point we would say ‘Is the Pope Polish?’ Little we know the best Pope in our lifetime would indeed be Polish.

  13. The link provided leads to this leading sentence.
“Pope Francis will this week call for changes in lifestyles and energy consumption to avert the “unprecedented destruction of the ecosystem” before the end of this century, according to a leaked draft of a papal encyclical.”
Note- “before the end of this century” which sounds much like the G-7 nation leaders promising action on climate by the year 2100. It’s a political move copy of the G-7.
Remember the article linked to which is mostly paraphrasing something not released is the most politically correct newspaper in the U.K., the Guardian.
Also, Frank is a Franciscan, as in St. Francis of Assisi. Addressing poverty is a main Franciscan theme. But he was also a Garden of Eden type towards nature.
“He believed that nature itself was the mirror of God. He called all creatures his “brothers” and “sisters,” and even preached to the birds[35][36] and supposedly persuaded a wolf to stop attacking some locals if they agreed to feed the wolf.”
I still waiting for this. Here is an excerpt from the wikipedia biography of the Saint:
“In 1219, he went to Egypt in an attempt to convert the Sultan to put an end to the conflict of the Crusades.”wikipedia[5 Tolan, John (2009). St. Francis and the Sultan: The Curious History of a Christian-Muslim Encounter. Oxford: Oxford University Press. ISBN 9780199239726.
Every politically correct group wants to claim this pope. Learn about the order he came out of and that will explain much of his approach.
I preferred Ben the Pope, but as an atheist, I don’t get a vote.

  14. Is the Pope communist? Not unless he is an atheist.
The *Catholic Church is not against **capitalism.
Leftists had coopted the word greed, but it is the place of Christian leaders(Pope included) to speak out against greed. Don’t confuse greed with free enterprise, which requires capital.
Mark14:7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
It is up to the believer to decide when and how mcu the will give the poor.
It should be said that historically, the Catholic Church has been a major patron of the Arts and of Architecture, example: the Sistine Chapel.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sistine_Chapel
The Sistine Chapel is, in essence, a major capital expenditure.
A lot of poor people could have been fed and housed with the gold that was spent on that structure. And then the gold would have been spent and there wouldn’t be a Sistine Chapel. I guess that Pope had priorities different from this Pope?
    *I am not Catholic
**capitalism is a Marxist term which means the amassing of capital for reinvesting; more accurate is the term free enterprise which is what Marxism is, in practice, against

  15. correction: It is up to the believer to decide when and how much they will give the poor.

  16. “I preferred Ben the Pope, but as an atheist, I don’t get a vote.”
Only Cardinals get a vote. The Catholic Church is a very Top-Down organization.

  17. The Pope in infallible … when speaking of Catholic Church doctrine. On other matters, he speaks simply as as a man with all the prejudices and biases of every other person.

  18. Hey Mohammed, you wont draw many black souls to filthy Islam with such horrendous crimes like the structure and punctuation in your dawa. You need some serious wudu and self reflection before any more prayer. You need to get to Syria and die a martyr with ISISISILIS.

  19. I agree.
Who better to spread bullshit to the masses than an entire faith-based organization evolved specifically to do exactly that?
Neither the MMGW myth nor radical Islam could exist without blind faith. It is time that society stop holding “faith” as a virtue and recognize it for the weakness and murderer of critical thought that it is.

  20. The catholic church is nothing but blasphemous anti christian morally bankrupt pomp and pageantry at its highest/lowest.
Jesus rode a donkey, Never hated tax collectors or the rich and powerful. He pleaded with those who had to GIVE not governments TAKE away.
“WHAT DOES IT PROFIT A MAN IF HE GAINS THE WORLD BUT LOSES HIS SOUL”
Jesus our lord and savior is not against profit or free markets or being materially wealthy but he is very much against it if that is what you think makes you you, if that is what you pray to “no one can serve both god and money” you cannot have 2 gods you will either love one and hate the other.
Jesus the bible is not a left or right setting its an up and down issue.
God blesses us all with many blessings.
Remember to my catholic friends there is NOTHING you can do to EARN your way into heaven
Jesus did it all for you “i am the way the truth and the life the only way to the father is through me” God poured out his wrath on jesus on our behalf the work is done.
If you believe anything else you are being misled or lied to. simple question is if you believe that YOU can do something to earn your way into heaven then why did Jesus go to the cross why did he say with his last breath it is finished

  21. Interesting, in that we just returned from a month with friends in Italy. Their comment was that the Italians LOVE this pope, they truly believe that he is raising the visibility of the Catholic church, and Italy in general.
After touring the Vatican, I was sickened by the wretched excess (and the 100 CAD entry charge) of the Catholic church. The beggars in Rome are on every street corner, and apparently this pope has organized things like a free shower in St Peters Square, as well as concerts for the poor. While I think the shower idea was essentially a good one, for the money the Catholic church has, they could open a proper drop in centre and help some folks out. The italians of course, are convinced the immigrants are too lazy to work, and that they make up the main portion of the beggars. I can’t say for sure – except that I am now even less of a fan of organized religion.
This pope may be saying the “right” things (the politically correct things), but he is seriously demented if he does not look at the Catholic church, with all its trimmings and riches, as the first start to reducing CO2 emissions. Until he does, stop preaching because you are just another “Do as I say, not as I do” type.

  22. It seems to me that the Catholic Church has taken several major positions which are largely ignored by Catholics in developed (so called 1st world) countries:
    1. Opposed all forms of birth control except the sex timing thingy
    2. Opposed homosexuality
    3. Opposed abortion
The Church’s record of successfully influencing these matters … very small. Since AGW is much more abstract than any of these three issues, I’m thinking it will not matter much what the Pope’s position is in “developed” countries.
So, to my way of thinking it is appropriate to ask who is the pope really trying to reach??

  23. “So, to my way of thinking it is appropriate to ask who is the pope really trying to reach”
He is just paying back a favor to Obama… The hordes of SA Children that Moses (Pope) arranged using Catholic Charities and paid for by US Taxpayers was a Covert operation.

  24. “The Pope isn’t a Communist. He’s just getting low on money.”
And he’ll get a lot lower if he helps kill the household economies of Catholic tithers in western nations with this AGW junk science.
The Catholic Church wants money to help the poor? The AGW scam is going to make many millions of middle income Catholics nouveau poor.

  25. I suppose he wants to force chhruche’s to allow enviromental pagan wearing freaky mask and beating drums to go dancing and prancing through the church hooting like owls waling like whales and howling like wolves

  26. The Pope isn’t a communist anymore than SDA atheists are communists. I haven’t read his encyclical; if and when I do I will rely on Catholic sources I trust rather than hypocritical atheists and left-wing newspapers who rely too much on their faux intellect. The level of discourse in this post proves that there are fewer conservatives posting at SDA. Instead, there appears to be a growing collection of “progressive” conservatives now calling themselves (pseudo) libertarians making comments worthy of the CBC or Globe & Mail. Sad.

  27. Larry – The Pope is not a Franciscan, he is a Jesuit! they had their day in the sun during the counter-reformation. Paul in Calgary, you wouldn’t have a bible to thump had it not been brought together by the Holy Fathers of the Catholic Church, back in the first centuries after the Ascension.
He is not exactly my cup of tea either, but he is Pope and thus has the authority to speak on matters basic to Church policy. I think you might agree that it would be improper to poor your used oil down the sewer grate – try and think of his edicts along these lines. It is not communist to suggest that there be a better way of sharing the wealth in the world, and that seems to be all he is suggesting at this time. The main thing is not to panic, God is in control and He goes about His business, in his own Way.

  28. The Catholic church is a business. A BIG business.
It doesn’t mind poverty and suffering, it lives on it – oh and a low level of education. Not too many probing questions. Communism is much the same. As long as everyone suffers equally ….where’s the problem? The chosen enemy of both groups is wealth. That’s what they say – unless your an insider.
Mr. Pope got the job by some kinda sleight of hand. The Nazi before him faced a schism and took the high jump. Aren’t gods representatives supposed to die in harness? Francis showed up out of no where and got the job. Just like Rachael Notley.

  29. Although I am a Protestant, it will take far more than this for me to believe that the Pope’s agenda is anything other than the promulgation of the Gospel, as he understands it, and further that the Pope believes the Gospel in a way that is fundamentally different than non- Catholic Christians.
His actions to date have been in some instances difficult to reconcile with actions and encyclicals of earlier Popes, but he has jumped into the middle of some fights that a Marxist never would, such as his call for the defense of Christians from ISIS, and his demand that Russia end its Ukrainian adventure.
Modern Metis Girls – how about dropping the slander you made above, unless you have proof your slur accurately describes the present Catholic Church.

  30. Any mention of the Pope brings out the rabid anti-Catholics and other assorted naysayers whose remarks are so biased and ungrounded in any facts that one wonders why mouths aren’t closed so as to gather feet.
Will I argue that this encyclical (as one knows it now) is rooted in reason? It doesn’t look like it, so, no.
Will I argue that a good chunk of those who find this encyclical problematic are doing so out of reason? With remarks like the “Church is a business”, “the Nazi before Pope Francis”, “the Church is leftist”, not a chance.
If Pope Francis has destroyed his credibility with this encyclical then so have the frothed-mouthed masses with their unbelievable crap.

  31. Is the pope communist, are there any right wing katholics. Most katholics world wide are apolitical to far left. Look at Kerry and Pelosi, and the mixicans from about mid USA to the tip of Chile, mostly lefties and largely katholic. And then there are leftist dumps like france and Italy. Most of the African katholics are lefties as are the Filipinos. I have to think most of the bible bangers in here live with their heads firmly shoved up their anus.

  32. Quite a number of years ago Marxism cloaked itself in nominal Christianity/Catholicism. It became known as Liberation Theology and found favour amongst the Jesuits. Pope John Paul II tried to get rid of it because he recognized it for what it truly is. The rest of the church leadership wasn’t as perceptive and elected a Jesuit who believes in part at least in Liberation Theology.

  33. “The level of discourse in this post proves that there are fewer conservatives posting at SDA. Instead, there appears to be a growing collection of “progressive” conservatives”
This is where you start explaining why we see a distinct difference between Pierre Trudeau(LPC), Brian Mulroney(*PC), and Jean Chretien(LPC) who were Catholics; and Stephen Harper(CPC) who is Protestant, as Prime Ministers.
    *Progressive Conservative
p.s. I don’t care about your answer. I’m a non-Catholic Christian and I’m willing to stipulate that Catholics are Christians because we Biblicals(including Jews) need to adopt a front of solidarity in the face of militant Islam and activist Atheism in these dark and dangerous times.

  34. “If Pope Francis has destroyed his credibility with this encyclical then so have the frothed-mouthed masses with their unbelievable crap.”
Unbelievable crap?????????? Isn’t that the essence of all religion?

  35. Interesting that Portugal Ireland Greece and Spain ,the pigs, are quite ca toil both roman and orthodox

  36. Aren’t you darling?
    Go bowling with NME 666.
When people grow up, maybe they can talk about the rot that is “global warming” instead of looking for a springboard to attack Catholicism.

  37. One huge environmental issue is the world’s ever-increasing population. In 2012, the IPCC’s extreme weather experts could find no connections-trends-links between “temps” (which are flat) and floods, fires, droughts etc etc. What the experts found was that many of the world’s poor are more vulnerable because of poverty and poor urban planning. (HAH! Just like Calgary viz “flood plain.”)
Consider the Philippines. Between 1982 and 2014 (a mere 32 years), its population MORE THAN DOUBLED from about 46 million to 97 million!! In three decades, its population grew by close to 50 million! So there are 50 million poor destitute NEW souls who live on about one dollar a day. You think they live in typhoon-proof housing and in properly designed areas where flooding can’t harm them? Of course not. They are incredibly vulnerable to any form of bad weather. The greenies blame AGW when a typhoon (like Haiyan in 2014) comes long killing a few thousand.
Of course, the RCC is against birth control and about 75% of the Philippine population is Catholic. Blame the church and not my 4-cylinder car.
This new initiative by Frank is a disgraceful display of dangerous hypocrisy. Utterly immoral behaviour.
    CAS

  38. The hysteria pimping industry, otherwise known as “environmentalists” and their followers act as a religion. This green theology, when including the integration into politics and governance, is essentially green theocracy. It appears that the Pope has added a little colour to his theology.

  39. Joe, I like your description much better than mine. The Russian Orthodox Church also had a theology during the communist years which was developed by the NKVD with the compliance of liberal progressive priests. Many of the mainstream Protestant churches of today in North America have also adopted a form of Marxist liberation theology.
So I revise my comment of 3:11 PM to not call this Pope a communist but an adherent of liberation theology. The Catholic Church will survive him, but he may do a lot damage in the meantime.

  40. I see this wacko Les U. Knight wants humans to go extinct well then we start with him and Paul Erlich and the eco-freaks
