The language of choice may be English, but is it your English, my English, or their English? One of the reasons that English, Anglish, Angla, American, Texan, etc. is a universal language is that it can be understood by anyone who converses in it (maybe with difficulty, but can still be understood. Name ONE other language that is basically understood by everyone (except the French). This also applies to spelling. That is why word Nazis get shunned and shamed on this site.
It is also adaptive. If it finds a word or concept in another language that describes better than the current English word, it readily adopts that word. If you go to those countries, many, like the commenter above, will not listen to you unless you speak academy language. I’ve been to some of those countries. If you go to Germany (an English progenitor) or Italy (an English progenitor) and speak even one word of their language, they will gather you in and try to converse.
