Piers Morgan, Where Art Thou?

Yesterday in Darby, Pennsylvania, Dr. Lee Silverman used a handgun to protect himself and others from a psychiatric patient who went on a shooting spree. Deemed as a hero by some, the doctor may be at risk of losing his job:

According to the Mercy Health System’s Code of Conduct, “Employees are prohibited from bringing firearms or explosives of any kind into the workplace.” If, indeed, an armed doctor shot the killer, he faces the loss of his job and his license to practice medicine.

  1. It makes perfect sense that he should lose his job. If he had been unarmed he would have been killed and would have lost his job by being dead. Therefore he must be fired because it was intended by fate that he should lose his job. They need to find out who the psych patient could have reasonably been expected to kill and have them executed as well. The psych patient who caused this must get the best available medical treatment so he can continue to provide work for other health care and mental health care worker. /sarc

  2. There are none so blind….as 1/.a journalist (editor); bureaucrat; progressive.————-.;cheers;

  3. Self-abasing progressia makes no moral distinction between criminal violence and morally justified violence (as in self defence or protection) this stems from a fundamental lack of personal fortitude condusive to simpering submissive psyche. Be that as it may, I deeply resent what amounts to craven coward control freaks denouncing me as a potential criminal and denying me the means to effective self preservation – just to make them feel better about their fear and cowardice.
whenever we see someone being gooned for reacting properly to threat of leathal attack, we must denounce those who would have them be a victim rather than a victor.

  4. Only the police and military and criminals and the dangerously mentally ill should have guns?

  5. “Employees are prohibited from bringing firearms or explosives of any kind into the workplace.”….obviously patients aren’t
simple….make a rule that patients can’t bring weapons either
    fixed

  6. Notice the police swat teams after the fact. I wouldn’t be surprised if they fired the doctor. The 20th century was an anomaly. Before that everyone carried self protection. For thousands of years until we gave over our rights to police . Who lately care more for their clients the criminals.
While making us helpless pawns to by forcing gun, or other laws to cripple our own self defence.Besides this doctor probably saved more lives than he would have being a physician.

  7. On an earlier thread, there was a bunch of comments on the Hippocratic Oath and that the Dr. had broken them.I have spent 2 hours, and NOWHERE in the oath does it say a doctor CANNOT protect s/he’s patient’s or own life if threatened. Remember pippes, this is where we got Khadr from.He was shot trying to kill somebody else, however, was immediately given assistance by his foe,who he proceeded to kill. Just something to think about over the weekend.
Revnant….he did indeed save alot of lives.

  8. HEH hEH….That link included a pic of Jeremy Clarkson….a Brit TV “presenter” who had occasion to slug Morgan….
Clarkson comments women always want to know why and the men always ask where…..

  9. In Canada, under Harper, with our gun laws, this man would be dead.
I am ashamed of my government.

  10. Dr. Silverman protected his patients from grievous bodily harm, and in so doing upheld a code far higher than the “Mercy Health System’s Code of Conduct “. No way this man should receive anything but praise for his actions.
What should really be put on trial is why there is no forcible treatment of VIOLENT mental patients.

  11. Get your butt out of Pennsylvania, Dr. Silverman. I’m sure there are many medical practices around the US that would be happy to have you.

  12. Actually Pennsylvania has pretty strong protection of Second Amendment rights. The problem here is the hospital and they, unfortunately, are like most hospitals. Our local hospital has signs telling you that you can’t bring guns onto the premises. What I find interesting about the hospital’s statement is their claim that he could lose his license to practice medicine. They have no control over that whatsoever. They can fire him, but a medical board not controlled by the hospital would have to be convened in order to pull his license. I doubt that violating a bureaucratic rule would be enough to deprive him of his right to earn a living and I doubt that a court would uphold it if the board did.

  13. Paging Ron Charach.
    Dr. Ron Charach!
Your professional insight to a pro-self-defense, gun carrying, psychiatric doctor, with a Jewish name is requested.

  14. “…he faces the loss of his job and his license to practice medicine.”
I would say in that case that both the hospital and the State medical board would face the mother of all lawsuits, and the doctor will retire a very wealthy man indeed.
Particularly seeing as how the good doctor gave the demented patient the first shot and all. It cannot be argued that he did not fire as a last resort in self defense, given that he took a bullet before shooting back.
Lawyers across the state are rubbing their hands in anticipation.

  15. Considering mental wards are full of Liberals…………………..
Maybe he should have just left the building.
