  1. There’s no reason to over-think the recent incident in the Ukraine.
Ukrainians who want to be part of Russia obtained Russian made missiles, which they used to mistakenly shoot down an airliner that wasn’t supposed to be there, because they thought it was a Ukrainian military cargo plane.
If the Ukrainian separatists had used missiles made in America would that make the USofA responsible?
This region was designated as a no-fly zone for passenger aircraft weeks ago, and all responsible airlines stayed out.
Once again, poor judgement on the part of a Malaysian Airlines pilot has resulted on the loss of a plane and the death of passengers.
Anyone who chose to fly with that airline after the first incident, is a careless fool.
If it makes someone happy to believe that evil communist Vlad Putin called a friend in the Ukraine and asked him to shoot down a passenger jet, as preposterous as that would be, then go right ahead. Such beliefs have an insignificant effect on global politics.

  2. Occams Razor prevails,
among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected. Other, more complicated solutions may ultimately prove correct, but — in the absence of certainty — the fewer assumptions that are made, the better.
The simplest explanation involving the fewest number of people is usually the closest to correct.

  3. ”Why does that scare you? You’re more likely to be killed driving your car or crossing the street. Does that scare you too?”

The above comment was generated (last night) when I provided a link to a list of airliners that have been either accidentally or intentionally hit by military weapons since 1950.
There was a US Park Ranger named Roy Sullivan who was hit by lightning 7 times during his career. And guess what? He never won the lottery! As a matter of fact, he died from a self inflicted gunshot wound over a lost love!
The point being that there is no relationship between buying a lottery ticket, being hit by lightning, crossing the street, dying in a car accident and/or being shot down by a missile!

  4. Don’t omit the fact that you considered that list “Scary”.
That’s the comment I responded to, NOT the list of aircraft.
Tell the whole truth not the edited version to fit your agenda.

  5. Do you jaywalk in traffic, do you speed and drive recklessly, do you drive impaired…
Do you fly on an airline with a recent record of losing a flight inexplicably, especially when that airline chooses to fly over a combat zone despite international warnings to all pilots.
Premeditated carelessness and willful ignorance significantly enhances your chances of early death.

  6. In the real world the humanitarian task will only be accomplished if Putin secures the area, then an International Group may properly identify and handle the victims.
No other nation can secure the area; short of a full scale war!

  7. North of 60:
What I meant by ”scary” was the thought of innocent people in a passenger plane being hit by a military plane, projectile etc. And I do believe I have a constitutional right to be afraid of a missile that comes up through the floor of a 777, especially if I`m on that flight.!
I was raised South of Moose Jaw, Sask. On April 08-1954, a military trainer from the RCAF base in that city accidentally sliced a Trans Canada Airlines North Star in half, killing 34 people aboard, the pilot of the Harvard trainer, plus one person on the ground. The bodies and the wreckage were scattered within a large area in the north end of the city. I was 6 years old. Scary?? You bet.

  8. I’m sure you have “have a constitutional right to be afraid of” whatever you choose to fear. No doubt a fertile imagination can create all sorts of paranoia.
Whatever floats yer boat is OK by me. Have a nice day.

  9. North taking an unusual blame the victim view of the event, says, “Ukrainians who want to be part of Russia obtained Russian made missiles, which they used to mistakenly shoot down an airliner that wasn’t supposed to be there, because they thought it was a Ukrainian military cargo plane.”
The reality, “Ukrainians (and Russian provocateurs/advisors – and can you really call them Ukrainians if they want to be part of Russia – and who report their activities to Russian “advisors”) who want to be part of Russia (are paid by Russia as part of Russian special forces and a provided Russian advice and support) obtained (or were given) Russian made missiles, which they used to mistakenly (they purposefully shot down the plane which they likely mistakenly believed was a Ukrainian military plane) shoot down an airliner that wasn’t supposed to be there (the flight route was used in the past and had an international identification, A87, and was in fact open above 32,000 feet – the airliner was flying at 33,000), because they thought it was a Ukrainian military cargo plane.
After misstating the facts, North then asks if the use of Russian made missiles makes the Russians any more culpable than the US would be if they used US missiles.
It is not the missiles North – it is the invasion of a sovereign neighbor, it is the military provocation and financial support of rebellion in a sovereign neighbor, it is the attempt to take the territory of a sovereign over by the use of agents and fifth columns that make Russia culpable.
What is it about this that is blinding North to the reality? Why did North bring the US into this debate? Is North an anti-American Lieberal whose instinctive response is to blame America? Why is North defending the actions of Putin’s Russia? Is North a living in Russia and accessing North American blogs under a number of identities posting comments favorable to Russia?

  10. Would it be okay for Quebec separatists to shoot down Canadian airliners traversing the void between Ontario and the Maritimes or Airliners traveling from the United States to Europe via the polar route?

  13. Of course it’s not OK to shoot down any airliners. Do you actually believe someone said that? What a silly assumption.

  14. When Rhode Island accidentally legalized prostitution, rape decreased sharply
    By Max Ehrenfreund July 17
For decades, few people noticed that legislators in Providence had deleted crucial language from Rhode Island state law in 1980. It wasn’t until a 2003 court case that police, to their chagrin, discovered they couldn’t prevent prostitutes and their customers from engaging in commercial exchange.
For the next six years until legislators corrected their error, the oldest profession was not a crime in Rhode Island — and public health and public safety substantially improved as a result, according to a new working paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research. The statewide incidence of gonorrhea among women declined by 39 percent, and the number of rapes reported to police in the state declined by 31 percent, according to the paper.

  15. Find the correlation between accidentally legalizing prostitution and decrease in rape hard to believe. Rape is about power and humiliating another – old women get raped too.
As a more libertarian type conservative, I lean towards legalizing prostitution but find these reasons hard to believe.

  18. I understand that the rebels got the missile launches when they overran a Ukrainian army base.

  19. “Rape is about power and humiliating another”
No, it isn’t. It is because of tropes like that, that young men are being accused of rape, after consensual sex, just because a girl feels humiliated when the guy exercises his power NOT to phone her afterward.
It happened to the son of a friend just this week. Their common friends finally talked her into admitting the sex itself was consensual, and enthusiastic, after the RCMP put the boy through all kinds of HELL. Now he has a permanent rape accusation in the RCMP file that they keep on everyone. He could have been in prison for years, his life ruined as a convicted rapist, because rape is the only criminal charge in this country where the accused has to prove their innocence.
    You can’t prove a negative.

  20. If so, then why would the Russians take the launcher into the interior of their country?
Surely it would be best to keep it in place and bring news teams to the site to show the launcher to the world and prove that they hadn’t given the launcher to the rebels, over whom they supposedly have no control, despite the entire “rebellion” being stiffened with Russian Spetsnaz and directed by Russian GRU officers.
Anything to spin Russian responsibility out of the equation.

    “Venezuela’s Breathtaking Air Tax”
“For Venezuelans fed up with life under 21st-century socialism, checking in at Maiquetia International Airport in Caracas is a breath of fresh air. That’s exactly what the gatekeepers of the Bolivarian Republic had in mind when they dreamed up the latest levy on the wallets of companeros on the wing.
On July 1, the government of President Nicolas Maduro started collecting a fresh-air tax on airline passengers at the country’s biggest airport. The charge — about $20 — is (please inhale) for breathing the air at Maiquetia’s departure terminal, where the ventilation system apparently has been enhanced with refreshing dollops of ozone.”
