  1. USDA OIG investigates, among other things, fraud, bribery, extortion, and smuggling. And cockfighting and dogfighting, both of which can involve Very Nasty People with a tendency towards violence.
Agents investigating those things might well occasionally need to Armor Up and have a buzz-gun.
If there’s a problem here, it’s the size and scope of the State, not the fact that it’s USDA – and it’s not “fear of the people”.

  2. Farmers have rifles and know how to use them. As well..they just might resent Dept. of Agriculture officials coming to confiscate their farms. just thinking out loud

  3. USDA OIG investigates, among other things, fraud, bribery, extortion, and smuggling. And cockfighting and dogfighting…
Just what’s needed, more parasites to do the job of law enforcement.

  4. Armed bureaucrats. With over a half a billion rounds. They musta figured they pissed off a lot of citizens. Well…the only way fix it is to shoot em. That’s thinking outside the box.

  5. Their is no justification for the alarming rate these agencies are each creating their own paramilitary units with military grade guns and equipment for domestic law and regulation enforcement, unless they actually do fear the people. Why else do it. If the USDA agent needs firepower, call in a swat team. God knows there are enough of them out there already.

  6. I can remember when I was a kid (my wife thinks that on occasion I am going back to that age) our cows kicking over the odd pail of milk while being milked. This was a direct cash flow blow as we children drank some of the milk. The rest was separated into skim milk for the hogs and the cream was taken to town in cans and sold. This money bought the staples for the household.
What Sigivald says is right but that said, it is a sad state of affairs when the government feels that it has to significantly arm to a swat team level what have been up till now benign government departments. This directly points to the emergence of a totalitarian state. Soviet agriculture officials would show up heavily armed with either local Militz or NKVD officers as backup.

  7. I wonder how sure Obama is that his federal employees are willing to turn these weapons on their fellow citizens.

  8. ” the U.S. Postal Service requested the go-ahead to buy “assorted small arms ammunition,”
    Now that makes sense.
If your employees are armed to the teeth, you should be also. The rest is scary.
I don’t the situation down there, but it might have something to do with the black market sale of unpasteurized milk in rural areas. It starts with milk, next thing you know, there are gangstas selling ungraded eggs outside of grade schools.

  9. It seems sort of obvious that these overbuilt
widely scattered across the country little fed
empires will be the bones folded into Emperor
Barry’s Peoples Militia at the appropriate time.
They will likely be tasked to hold the fort pending
basic training and deploying the massive numbers of
the usual black supremacist thugs and other riffraff
    such regimes find helpful.

  10. I wouldn’t have been able to decide whether this should be filed under “forward” or “it’s probably nothing”.
So are there any federal agencies that are not armed in similar & “out of all proportion” style?

  11. Can someone tell me why on earth this happening. I keep reading about this sort of thing.
Someone must have a good theory on this.

  12. The “progressives” would do well to recall history.
The last emotional event “The War of Northern Aggression” was not the US Army vs a civil insurrection but rather a struggle between different factions of the original US Army.
On the eve of war, Lincoln offered overall command of the Union Army to one Robert E. Lee, who demurred and tendered his resignation.
The field officers of both factions were West Pointers.
This “Civilian Security Force” the donkeys are assembling probably will be crushed by the Real Military, if this CDF starts firing on civilians.
If Obama and the donkeys cannot rely on the regular military to carry out their orders….they cannot rely on the military remaining neutral.
Just my thoughts…..nothing civil about civil war.

  13. “USDA OIG investigates, among other things, fraud, bribery, extortion, and smuggling. And cockfighting and dogfighting…”
Yes and they raid and jail Amish farmers for selling raw milk and honey and bully farmers who have stray Monsanto plants infecting their crops – the burden of enforcing corporate cronyism is heavy … and then there are all the flatulent terrorist cows grazing on imperial Fed pasture in Utah to be dealt with, a Fed goon squad’s job is never done.
I can still recall the RCMP raid on Andy McMekin’s farm (and many others) and them terrorizing his family before stripping him and hauling him off in chains for selling his grain to someone outside the federal wheat monopoly, they failed to murder his cows though, probably not enough fire power – this USDA Arming up revelation makes me think how much easier that would have been if the wheat board had their own enforcers with military gear, chatter guns and an “at war” attitude.

  14. Sasquatch;
My understanding is that the military itself is being ‘cleansed’ with many senior
officers being either transferred or forced into retirement.

  15. Yeah that’s apparently occurring….
    But the problem remains….
Most revolutions are sparked by colonels not generals…..and majors become colonels…..
I think this cleansing effort is like trying to to destroy an ant hill by using a hammer in any ant that steps on a board some feet from the hill…..tain’t gonna work….
There is a military culture world wide but the yanks have a unique genure of a military culture…..understandable…they are at their core a revolting people….
Besides superman’s demise is probably greatly exadurated…

  16. Besides a thorough (Stalinesque)purge of the officer corp would still result in the US Army more competent and better lead than this Civil Security Force of bureaucrats….lead by bureaucrats.

  17. Am I the only one who is offended by the blatant sexism of a request for “Body Armor [that’s] gender specific…”. Didn’t they hear about rape culture? Transawareness? Hello anybody out here????? These people need to be directed to sensitivity training at the closest university campus.
