We Are All Comrades Now

Greenpeace jumps the Beluga;

Russians aren’t very fond of Greenpeace. The majority of people polled by the VTsIOM public opinion research centre aren’t disapproving of the arrest of the ecologists who climbed the Prirazlomnaya oil rig but suspect other motives to be behind the Prirazlomnaya action apart from environmental protection.
In the West, there seems to be no particular fondness for Greenpeace either. The Internet is full of sarcastic comments on the “adventures” of Greenpeace activists in the Arctic.

  1. CBC was doing some serious butt-covering for the ‘Peas tonight. Had some woman on claiming two million letters and emails in support. That don’t cut no ice with Uncle Vlad, or most Russians it appears.
There might be a slight error in the article. They’ve been charged with hooliganism instead of piracy, not in addition to piracy. Not that it matters, the punishment is still seven years hard labour.
And when they’re convicted, Uncle Vlad now has hostages against further bad behaviour by the ‘Peas. “Do it again and you and your friends will get really HARD labour.” After the ‘Peas various adventures with the white variety, you would think that they’d be bright enough to stop messing with bears.

  2. The entire environmental movement risks becoming irrelevant, scorned and ignored unless they quit exaggerating and lying. That time is coming soon. If you love the environment and want to protect it, stop scaring people and treating their money like it’s not important.

  3. The Greenpeace morons should be more worried about Japans Nuclear plants…..Three nuclear cores are missing and they are somewhere under the buildings leaking radioactive water in hugh amounts into the ocean….Which will shortly be on our Left Coast Province’s….waters….Now thats a bigger worry…./////

  4. Apparently these idiots were warned that their usual childish antics would not be tolerated and that there would be consequences if these warnings were ignored.
Obviously Greenpeace is accustomed to dealing with western governments who are more concerned about image and political correctness than dealing firmly with miscreants. You have to give the Russians credit though. Sure the regime is totalitarian and, at times, downright brutal, but at least they stick to their guns. As for Greenpeace …. if you want to ignore repeated warnings and carry on in your usual fashion, sooner or later there will be consequences so suck it up and hopefully learn something in the process.

  5. Seems the public has been paying attention, once you proudly proclaim your right and duty to lie to the public to facilitate the cause.
You really should not be surprised to find yourself rotting in a foreign prison.
And noticing that nobody cares what happens to drama greens.
Next up Japan will try, convict and hang Dufus Watson for piracy against their ships.

  6. I’ve bumped this post – screwed up on my timestamping earlier today when it was written, so it was initially published way down the page (along with a couple of others) – sorry for the confusion if you’re seeing this for a second time.

  7. What’s next, university professors ransacking the Cuban embassy?
Can’t these leftists remember rule number one, it’s the capitalist environment they are supposed to protect. Back in the day, the commies didn’t give a rat’s ass if they wrecked their own country, but if we so much as sprayed a dandelion … well anyway, I’m glad to see the commies fighting amongst themselves. Neither faction thinks they are commies, of course, which makes it even funnier.

  8. Seems that Greenpeas mistook the lack of outrage over their imbecilic obstructionist theater as support in the west. Now that the Russians have shown the world how they deal with terrorists of the environmental variety, the total lack of outrage amongst the western populace must be very disconcerting for the kleptocrat moonbats.
Generally the popular opinion seems to be “couldn’t have happened to a more deserving bunch of idiots” and I’d be curious about how many emails of support the Russian embassy has received for their finally taking a stand against moronic stunts carried out by spoiled brats who have no knowledge of the real world.
While spending time in a Russian jail is not something that I’d recommend, it appears that this form of reality therapy is necessary to educate the entitled spoiled brats who are convinced they have some form of divine right to impose their views on western populations because they chose to utilize modern technology in their lives rather than adopting the primitive lifestyle that these “environmental warriors” demand of all “non-enlightened” individuals. No matter that such “environmental warriors” are the most hypocritic of individuals using evil CO2 spewing ships produced in biosphere wrecking ship building plants to attack Russian oil platforms rather than ecologically friendly sea kayaks. The latter require some degree of physical fitness and navigational ability; two characteristics which are lacking among the enviro-hypocrites.
We’ll see how well this re-education campaign has worked in 7-30 years time when the Russians decide to release these criminals. In the meantime, I doubt that Greenpeas is intelligent enough to realize that the striking lack of outrage among the populace in western countries doesn’t reflect apathy but rather a smouldering resentment of this entitled bunch of hooligans which will likely make the responses of western governments to the next Greenpeas disruption far closer to the Russian response than the timid slap on the wrists that these enviro-hooligans have thus far received.

  9. John Chittick, thanks for that link. I’m underwhelmed by the effect of the Fukashima meltdowns on the W. coast of N. America and, as I posted once before, I’ve seen only a single blip in my Geiger counter data at a time when winds were supposed to carry huge amounts of “dangerous” radioactivity in my direction. Background radiation where I live is about 16 cpm and, about a month ago, I experienced on blip of 150 cpm for a grand total of 1 minute. In addition, there was another smaller event which was an increase in background radiation to about 18 cpm for about an hour. The latter event was only found by averaging my Geiger counter data into 1 hour bins and, while I haven’t computed the probability that it’s real, it does represent an increase in background radiation at a time that catastrophic forecasts were made about the spread of radioactive fallout from Japan.
There is more of a seasonal variation in background radiation where I’m currently located than in supposed radioactive “contamination”. My Geiger counter only counts sufficiently energetic gamma rays and beta particles as I haven’t removed the cover over the fragile mica window on the Geiger tube to allow for it to count alpha particles. Still, given the very limited penetration of alpha particles through the atmosphere, I don’t think I’m missing anything. I can increase the observed background radiation far more by surrounding my Geiger counter with large amounts of KCl.

  10. While in jail they can ponder …..
They won’t be troubling the world with their own “karbon footprints” for a while; those would have been quite large considering they were able to make it to the Barents Sea.

Meanwhile Tasmanian activist Colin Russell has detailed life in a Russian prison cell in letters to his family.
Greenpeace has released letters Colin Russell has written to his wife Christine and daughter Madeline, as pressure grows on the Federal Government to secure his release.
Mr Russell describes being in a tiny jail cell.
He says the first hint of a brutal Russian winter has arrived, with snow blowing into his cell.
Mr Russell says everything is made to be uncomfortable, including his bed which has iron bars that cut into him.
You would be forgiven for thinking that Russell would be happy with his lot, snow blowing in his cell means little or no central heating which in turn means a very small carbon footprint, and as a member of Greenpeace, Russell naturally has an irrational fear of CO2.
There is also a valuable lesson for Russell to learn from all this, he and his Greenpeace accomplices only support very expensive Green renewable energy, snow blowing in his cell is not that far removed from pensioners and the poor who cannot afford to heat their homes because of the every increasing cost of Green subsidies on energy bills.
As usual the minute these people are forced to practice what they preach they start whining, little wonder then that Green is the most popular synonym for hypocrite.

  11. Nicely put. After the Billions now spent on phoney Global warming, windmills that massacre birds & bats. An endless vista of “energy” farms that are falling apart & an eyesore. Cars that blow up into fire pits. We have all had a belly full of these self righteous loons.
Making Billionaires of con men. Side lining true science for bunkum.
Not a thing they do works out. Just creates misery with killing results for people as well. A poorer life for all. Adds nothing to pollution control that’s real.
No wonder the Luddite hordes where wiped out finally.
These black knights of nothingness can contemplate climate change in a Siberian winter.
    As far as I’m concerned.
Greenpeace is just theatre, disguising a charity business for themselves to profit for people who run it.

  12. I hope the entire environmental movement does become irrelevant, and not just irrelevant but deeply scorned. Environmentalism means the destruction of our way of life
I’m all for conservation, environmentalism is not conservation and the two should not be confused.

  13. “Ecologist” is not synonomous with activist, or even environmentalist. Greenpeacers are NOT ecologists. There are primarily anarchists.

  14. Propelling global socialism using green causes as a front has run its course. The cat is out of the bag and most thinking people are sceptical at best of Green motives. The signs are everywhere – greenpeace getting the boot in most of its staged events, Carbon alarmists were turfed in Oz, Warsaw climate confab was a monumental flop, governments are abandoning the cash sink-hole of green tech. etc., etc.
The wave of alarmist/manipulative environmentalism has reached its high water mark and is on the way out. We should, at this point be keeping our ears open for the next vehicle th global socialist elite will use to push their global governance agenda – celestial threats maybe? The asteroids are coming and we all need to give our freedoms and wealth to the tiny cabal who can save us from this next global threat. On and on it goes because there is an endless replenishing supply of fools.

  15. What’s with the NP website? I can link to the story, but then instantly an ad pops up to subscribe, but then when I close the link I go to their home page, and when I search for the story and follow that link, I get the subscription ad again. Ugh.

  16. Rev, google greenpeace and the Swiss and German Re-insurance industry.
GP has been shilling for the R-I guys in China for several years, spreading fear of flooding and storm damage due to global warming, while the insurance companies sell policies to the fearful newly-middle class Chinese.

  17. LOKI
KCl or potash has a naturally ocurring Radioactive isotope called Potassium 40 or K40. The mine detect this isotope to measure ore grade, in fact some of the mines use the presence of K40 to guide their mining machines.

  18. I feel for the poor GP pawns. However, pawns should expect to suffer, their masters consider them expendable.
Letting themselves become pawns was their mistake.
I guess they didn’t understand that only Western democracies makes heroes of the idiots trying to destroy them (while demanding payment for the damages).

  19. Now if we could only apply these lessons to our own Indian activists, Canada would become a better country. It’s pay now or pay later, but now would be good.
