Some historic events are familiar to people all around the world, and will be remembered forever, but other events are historic only locally, and only for a few years. Tonight, courtesy of the NFB’s Vignette Series, we get an outsider’s view of that latter kind of history: Filmed in Greenstreet, Saskatchewan, here’s Larry Bauman’s short documentary The Move.

Re: NFB Vignette.
Brought tears to my eyes. I`ve seen dozens of those old Pools, Pioneers and UGGs toppled since then. Saw an entire town disappear into the horizon about 7 miles from our farm. Last week I visited a neighbour, he was harvesting with 2 new John Deeres, they were hauling right off the combine to an elevator 72 miles away.
Sometimes, things just don`t make sense.
Thanks!! I you`re a prairie soul and you want to see a sad video, click on this. (There are three parts.)

Couldn’t believe this article when I read it as it shows that the current government in the USSA is totally out of control. Impeachment isn’t enough; maybe we can ask the Russians to help out with a nuke on Washington DC.

US officials: US considers training Syria rebels

I now will try to stop my head from spinning.
There should be little doubt as to why Putin is so strongly in Assad’s camp and why the Saudies are so strongly in support of US intervention, so much so as to offer to finance it. Like most things in The Middle East, if you want answers, simply follow the money.
From a commentor on “The Diplomad’s” site:
The main thing for Putin, I think, is to challenge US interests by lining up against us. Outside of regional influence and strategic national power, Putin and Russia also want arms sales to Syria and Iran and other allies in the ME. And then of course, there’s the pipeline problem. This is from The Guardian:
_______________________________________________________
In 2009 . . . . Assad refused to sign a proposed agreement with Qatar that would run a pipeline from the latter’s North field, contiguous with Iran’s South Pars field, through Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and on to Turkey, with a view to supply European markets – albeit crucially bypassing Russia. Assad’s rationale was “to protect the interests of [his] Russian ally, which is Europe’s top supplier of natural gas.”
Instead, the following year, Assad pursued negotiations for an alternative $10 billion pipeline plan with Iran, across Iraq to Syria, that would also potentially allow Iran to supply gas to Europe from its South Pars field shared with Qatar. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project was signed in July 2012 – just as Syria’s civil war was spreading to Damascus and Aleppo – and earlier this year Iraq signed a framework agreement for construction of the gas pipelines.
The Iran-Iraq-Syria pipeline plan was a “direct slap in the face” to Qatar’s plans. No wonder Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan, in a failed attempt to bribe Russia to switch sides, told President Putin that “whatever regime comes after” Assad, it will be “completely” in Saudi Arabia’s hands and will “not sign any agreement allowing any Gulf country to transport its gas across Syria to Europe and compete with Russian gas exports”, according to diplomatic sources. When Putin refused, the Prince vowed military action.

Re: the NFB Vignette. It also brought back memories to me. Our local elevators were toppled.
Yes, it was sad. These prairie sentinels had guarded the plains for decades. Some of the consolidation was necessary for a few reasons, but it was still sad…plus the wear and tear on rural roads that were never designed to handle the heavier and more continuous truck traffic. This consolidation also accelerated to move toward fewer farmers and larger farms.
The Move is actually rather touching — I can really feel for the people in the town. Must have been a sad day for them.
Closest thing to that we see in southern Ontario is when they moved the bath house in Jack Layton’s old riding. That was pretty sad, too.

It might have been the first unhappy ending in the bathhouse’s history.

If only the CG billed these idiots for their rescue.
I live near Lake Simcoe north of Toronto. A couple of the townships here are now billing idiots who go out on thin ice in the winter for rescue services. If it works for the local fire departments, it’ll work for the CG! I’m sure the CG could get a satellite hook-up for a credit/debit card machine.
Humph.
I like the satellite debit card idea, no pay, no play. These idiots were filming a “reality show”, I bet the rescue bill would snap these stupid pricks back to reality…
These would look really good on your trophy wall. Pity they don’t taste good.
