Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Just start building the pipeline north to south. By the time it hits the border Obama will be gone.
It only makes sense for us to diversify our markets anyway. Build the gateway pipeline and eventually the adults in the US will approve a keystone project
The Pembina Institute is a nest of traitors ion the pay of American Marxists.
What other name can be given to people who celebrarte the humiliation of their government, a major industry and the workers of a province they have the temerity ti maintain an office in?
Excellent comments by Gingrich. Despite his flaws, he would be a far better president than that coward Obama. My hunch is that he would also be a better president than Romney.
Obama will now keep the Hollywood/Greenie votes and money and lose 20,000 construction worker voters but keep the money their unions rip from their paychecks.
Time for a political wedgy . . . thnx Newt.
Gingrich shouldn’t talk about ‘stupid’ and appeasing ‘San Fransico Environmentalists’ after appearing with Nancy Pelosi and backing her position on CAGW.
That said, it’s too bad the Americans and environmentalists are so short sighted.
The Keystone Xl pipeline piping syncrude to Texas would be environmentally safer than having Chinese built supertankers shipping up and down the B.C. coastline.
What are these tankers going to be bringing back to B.C. when they return from China?
Utter stupidity doesn’t even begin to describe it…
Megan Leslie (Dipper loon) just now,on the record on cbc states “no,I don’t support the pipeline, and I will continue to fight it” Mark Garneau tells her she’s ‘an isolationist!’
Obama:support Solyndra,don’t support Keystone. Hmm,that works well.
Canadians:
Remember that most Americans want this pipeline to go through. We would rather throw money into your pockets instead of sending it places where they wrap their turbans too tightly. Start building the pipeline south. We’ll take care of the idiot in November. By that point, you should be close to the border. Worst comes to worst, we can use tanker trucks across the border to embarrass the idiot.
Obama is serving his base; this is not stupid, but good politics from his point of view. Why do you think he appointed the czars? To serve his radical base.
I just finished reading Ann Coulter’s “Treason”. It answered the question I asked on an SDA forum a while ago, that being are liberals evil or stupid. My conclusion after reading the Coulter book and a Jonah Goldberg book is that they are evil. They are deliberately trying to destroy the country, by siding with the enemy. This is just another example. This decision allows them to help destroy the American economy and prop up countries like Venezuela and Saudi Arabia.
What else can you expect from a sheer utterly stupid president?
Can anyone identify that car in the background? Did Newt make this speech in Western Development Museum in Saskatoon?
What PatrickB said, and you can include the fruit fly doctor in that category.
Can’t wait until next January when we replace the ghetto trash with a real President
Clayton, fully understood my friend! Every non-troll on this site understands the difference between Red State Americans and Leftards.
Speaking of the latter, the Leftards up here would love nothing more than to have BOTH the XL Pipeline and the Northern Gateway pipeline projects shut down. IF they get their way then Canada is doomed financially.
I see this as a blessing in disguise. The Americans pay us less for our oil than the world market and we need to diversify our trade as much as possible. It is now up to the federal government to ensure that the Norther Gateway pipeline goes through in a reasonable time frame and is not delayed for years due to foreign interference and money.
Well it appears the eagle “Eye of Newt” has a bead on the Obama-Nation(tm).
I use quality Canadian natural gas to heat my home and I won’t be adorning my ‘man cave’ with bear pelts to keep warm this winter, when I have a useful alternative.
Why can’t the Obama-Nation(tm) get it?
This is known as responsible energy extraction usage.

The DEMONcRAT media disliked Newt before now they will go into total Gingrich derangement….even if he is right.
That column by fruitflyguy was a monumental example of sophistry….emotional arguments supported by arbitrary assumptions and simple untruths (eg the sale of the ENTIRE Oil Sands development).
He refers to ….”A country willing to sacrifice its manufacturing industry, its opportunities in the green-energy economy,” …..what green energy economy? Soylindra?
He refers to…..”eliminate subsidies to the fossil fuel industry,”….but gives no evidence of this wistful notion. What subsidies….all business can use expense to reduce taxable revenue.
He suggests refineries be built here…but he has conducted campaigns to block their construction. His famous trans-Canada bus tour had the ultimate goal to protest the construction/enlargement of the St John’s NB..Irving oil refinery.
But then the real reason for this bitter diatribe…”Their increasing attacks on charitable organizations and Canadians from all walks of life….”
IOW…..the fear that his cash-cow foundation could face an audit and worse yet, could be denied it’s foreign financing.
You can call Newt Gingrich a lot of things but Stupid isn’t one of them.
To be honest I like him better than Romney, & it has nothing to do with Religion. Its the fact Newt just can’t hold back talking about the reality of things, because his ego won’t let him. That makes him more honest than most Politicians around these days.
I thought I would never live to see America turn on Canada. Ive always been pro American. Still am for its people. I loved to visit the US before Obama. I felt more free there than here. Not anymore though. The government there now is so corrupt its become a Greek tragedy running on jet fuel. The people are still great , but they have been diminished by this Caligula of a President.
There Constitution, one of the greatest documents of mankind, trashed by this Muslim Marxist.
The rights Americans enjoyed now taken over by gropers in TSA uniforms with a no warrant police.
Past time Canada went Nuclear for self protection. We don’t have the population or money to protect ourselves. That we have so many commodities with resources including water to protect from much larger Nations demands this. We can’t rely on a more Communist America every day to do it anymore. In fact if Obama’s tactics hold as usual, he will start demeaning Canada at every turn to take eyes off him, to Americans. His instinct is always attack his problems legally or with slander.
So I wouldn’t be surprised to see an anti-Canadian campaign coming soon. Just think Joe the plumer, Sarah Plain, or Cain.
With the Suzuki heads on board, this is going to be an ugly fight. I would have felt much better selling the oil to the US. I was even for refineries in Texas.
Time maybe Harper cut off all welfare funds to the provinces. Make UI an extinct failure. Just to show these greens what they are pulling will do to this economy. Cut off all social programs particularly money to Universities, the CBC with other useless money holes for Marxists. Time to get dirty.
“IF they get their way then Canada is doomed financially.”
No, the bitumen will be shipped by rail instead.
That was an impressive put down by Newt. For too long Obozo hasn’t been slapped down like he should have been for making idiotic decisions and it looks like Newt isn’t afraid of calling him an idiot.
I’d like to see both pipelines built although I don’t like the idea of exporting oil to the chicoms. However, the US just seems a bit unstable now and it would be prudent for Canada to diversify. There’s enough oil in the oil sands for both markets. What would be nice if Alberta could develop a large petrochemical industry as well but that looks like a multi-decade project.
Canada sells its oil to the Chinese.
Chinese put lead in it,
ship/sell it back to US.
Lead is actually good for your car but dangerous for the environment.
That would really piss off the Oblamer Affirmative Action Enviorweenie Groupies.
This decision was made by the State Department.
Obama has not closed the door on this issue. He can take it to Congress and have the State Department’s decision overturned.
Anyone want to bet that, about 6 months from now in the heat of the campaign, he’ll announce he’s had an epiphany and will call on Congress to approve it, if he’s elected? Should be worth another million votes.
Obama is simply being opportunistic. His campaign relies heavily upon the eco-fart support dollars. The decision also fits in well with his personal ideology, however it flies in the face of ‘job creation’ and preferred energy reliance. I guess he chose what he felt was the most beneficial in a profit/loss scenario.
That being said, we now have to go ahead with the Northern Gateway and flog crude to China. Not my personal choice but, like Obama, I choose the most beneficial. (did I say ‘like Obama’? – kill me now)
Sadly, it is the average US citizen that is being screwed. To Canada it was always a win/win financially.
Sorry folks in the US. I love ya but I can’t influence who you choose as a leader. Hell, it’s taken most of my adult life to get what I consider a decent leader here in Canada….
BTW – I always thought Newt (despite his baggage) to be the bast choice for president. Many here will disagree but that’s your prerogative. That video is precisely why I think he’s the best choice. It’s also precisely why he won’t win the nomination. He makes too much sense in a blunt fashion. He’s not warm and fuzzy.
The only thing I don’t like is the ‘Tar Sands’ caption.
But then, the feed is from CNN.
A poll that need some help.

Nathan Cullen on the record for a ‘no’ as to support for pipeline..Peggy Nash, waffles.
Yup,the ndp..so important NO msm is even covering their big debate tonite.
Damn, I gotta do a take-back on Newt.
I never expected to hear this kind of uncompromising language ever again.
He’s so right: STUPID.
But not really if you consider that his real objective all along has been the destruction of the republic and the marxist starting all over again with a clean slate.
“Five Days from now there will be a fundamental transformation … “.
All I want now is to hear Gingrich start calling Obama a marxist (and ET to pop in saying, damn MND, you were right).
Yeah, I prefer him to Romney too. Can you imagine Romney speaking so aggressively.
PREDICTION: If he gets the nomination, Obama won’t debate him. I know, you’re thinking: he’d have to. No he doesn’t!
Trans-Canada to re-apply!
http://junkscience.com/2012/01/18/transcanada-will-re-apply-for-a-keystone-xl-permit/#more-9864
Sasquatch: “IOW…..the fear that his cash-cow foundation could face an audit and worse yet, could be denied it’s foreign financing.”
Not quite. The threat is that he would be forced to disclose foreign sources of funding by having to produce an annual audit, same as every public corporation must do. It shows how desperately afraid he is of being revealed as a sock puppet for foreign interests.
Clayton Cramer, I would like to believe you, but too many things have a habit of going tilt in US politics. Fact of the matter is that if Keystone is not bipartisan then the US cannot be trusted to deal with Canada-US issues on merit. But then we’re used to that after 25 years of harrassment over softwood lumber. It would seem that America’s gratitude over Canada’s role in Afghanistan and Libya was VERY short-lived.
Revnant Dream, it is possible to find many retired senior civil servants of the generation that entered the federal government in the 1950s and early 1960s who quietly regard Canada’s decision NOT to develop a nuclear weapon capacity as the country’s greatest mistake in the 20th century.
It has long been clear that there are only two kinds of countries in the world, those which have nuclear weapons and those which don’t. And those which don’t just don’t matter very much. The Iranians understand this thoroughly, which is why mere blockades and embargoes will do nothing to deter them.
No I don’t like Gingrich better than Romney. Oz was right; his appearance with Nancy Pelosi in support of climate change has damned him forever as a shiftless opportunist.
This is great.
Now Daryl Hannah is on Power and Politics giving her opinion.
TJ stole my thunder; why not rail it? I certainly don’t know all the economics of pipelines but I can’t help but think that 8 billion would pay for an awful lot of rail cars going south AND WEST!!!!
Chris in the Bridge
P.S. If Romney is the Republican nominee, Obama will be re-elected
That is Ezra’s best commentary so far on Sun News.
Chris in the Bridge says “If Romney is the Republican nominee, Obama will be re-elected.”
Depends on who he choses to run as Vice President. Bets are on Chris Christie.
BARRACK HUSSEIN OBAMA PREFERS ISLAMIC FASCIST OIL
Although president Obama must at least be intelligent enough to recognize that unemployed US citizens can’t wait until after the election for tens of thousands of jobs, he is accepting the recommendation of his far-left, affirmative action secretary of state and is sacrificing tens of thousands of jobs for one; his own.
The decision to forfeit jobs for unemployed Americans has been expedited to induce election contributions, support from the environmental fascist, and assistance from extremist who will work for his campaign.
Barrack Hussein Obama must be convinced that buying oil from a democratic country that recognizes human rights, has similar values to most Americans, and historically before Obama has frequently been called the US’s “best friend”, is superior than buying oil from Islamic fascists who fail to recognize human rights, democratic governance, or hold values that are recognized by people with morals.
The potential big winner here is China, although Iran and the other Islamic fascist countries that export oil also win as does communist Venezuela; well done Barrack Hussein Obama.
—machiavelli
This decision was made by the State Department
Would that be the same State Dept that gave their approval last fall?
Make no mistake, Obama made this decision and it was the only one he could make. He could either pi$$ off the unions or the Hollywood fund-raisers. He chose to keep the money flowing into campaign coffers. It was a good decision for him and a lousy decision for Americans.
Ezra’s commentary is definitely worth listening to. Top notch.
Just saw an ad on Fox by an American group re Canadian oilsands (yes, they called it oilsands)…I don’t think this is over with…
http://energytomorrow.org/
Almost caught them on the poll, folks. Keep on voting!
Lorne Gunter weighs in:
http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/01/18/lorne-gunter-obamas-keystone-rejection-just-political-theatre/
If we start shipping by rail make sure it goes the full length and/or breadth of Nebraska.
Two votes separate the poll right now.
setyoufree: “Now Daryl Hannah is on Power and Politics giving her opinion.”
Why would anyone want to hear from that empty-headed twit? She can barely string two three-word sentences together.
Kathryn, the decision to kill Keystone was easy for him. All of the jobs would be created in states which don’t vote for him anyway. This was all about keeping the big fat campaign contributions rolling in and to guarantee the watermelon vote.
This decision will NOT be reversed after the election. Once a campaign has been run in which stopping it was a key issue, there’s no way that Obama can reverse himself and infuriate his green supporters afterwards.
cgh,
You think he is going to win?
Besides, the Chicoms will buy it, like Cuba drilling oil we won’t drill off of Florida, the oil will be recovered, and burned, just will be shipped across the ocean instead.
“True scale of CO2 emissions from shipping revealed”
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/feb/13/climatechange.pollution
today Nobama is collecting funds, tomorrow he will reverse his decission and try to collect votes
trouble is he is blaming the GOP for this fiasco, so how will he explain his reversal???
fun times in the election cycle:-)))
“IF they get their way then Canada is doomed financially.”
No, the bitumen will be shipped by rail instead.”
How has the oil up to now been delivered to market from the oil sands? It has been going for some time.
Without a doubt, Ezra’s on a roll.
I wouldn’t be surprised if before long, he himself will be a target of the MSM because of manure he tends to spatter over all their favorites. I say, bring it on! at your peril.
He opened his tirade on Zero today calling him the Manchurian Candidate, which affirms my thinking. I made this argument here a couple of years ago, and I haven’t been convinced otherwise, even though ET then seemed to disagree. But there was no question of his narcissistic proclivity.
I’d like nothing better than to be able to eat my words, but I doubt I’ll have to.
One of Ezras best rants.
“What are these tankers going to be bringing back to B.C. when they return from China? ”
Spare people. China has lots.
I wouldn’t want to see the oil shipped by rail,The tracks from Alberta to Rupert are in terrible shape. The buyers of the former CN laid off all the maintenance crews and replaced them with track inspectors who travel over the rails at thirty MPH,they can’t see much at that speed.
The main rail line would have to be upgraded and maintained at a cost probably as high as a pipeline, with a lot less of a safety factor.
Nope,if we’re going to ship oil, let’s do it right,by pipeline.
Gingrich looked good in that clip, didn’t he? Wonder what eventual Republican Presidential candidate Romney thinks of Obama’s latest stab-in-the-back to Canada.
Suzuki says, “Caring about the air, water, and land that give us life”; well, our mothers and fathers give us life but it is plain hard work that makes life other than “nasty, brutish, and short”.
I think that David Suzuki should get a job. As a farmer’s assistant, as a miner, or perhaps as a deck hand on an oil rig. He needs to understand just how tough Mother Nature is.
Mother Nature is a serial killer. You didn’t hear it first here.
Suzuki’s last paragraph was interesting.
I especially liked this part:
“we can expect more attacks and more attempts to silence those who believe we must at least have a discussion…”
Oh, he’s willing to have a discussion now. He’s certainly softened from his position of having politicians who don’t believe in the global warming fairy put in jail. Doesn’t Suzuki know, the discussion is over, there’s a consensus. Or is he too senile to recall the recent election results?
