  1. Well Iggy would be happy to have Scummy Boy, he of the warm comfy liberal fur, so beloved by the BC NDP, out of his hair and lofted into the position of our GG.
Glen Clark would not be amused, Mike Harcourt would be bemused.

  2. It would take a whole day of drinking draft to see that concept in a positive way.

  3. To be serious for a minute; why not someone who has done something for his/her country? Say someone who put him/herself in harms way as an extension of our foreign policy.
Seems to me the last GG who brought respect to the post and actually did something as well was Georges Vanier. (Major-General Georges-Philéas Vanier PC DSO MC* CD) (He took on organized crime.)
Please; lets not have a celebrity, news reader or athlete. This post could provide major benefits to Canada if filled with the right person.

  4. I spy, with my little eye, a GG candidate whose first name begins with the letter K.

  5. Two choices for GG,both are fully qualified they are Lewis MacKenzie and Rick Hillier.

  6. Sounds like a waste of good draught there Peter.
It would be great to get a GG that actually served for Queen(King) and country. Political hacks and media establishment are not head of state material although I would say, to her credit that GG Jean has had some positive moments.

  7. Surely you people know that the constitution requires that our Governor-General must be a CBC employee and an easterner?
Let’s hope it’s Rex Murphy then.

  8. I remember the day Clarkson got picked.
CTV’s Trina somethingnik announced it at noon and her sissy co-host rubbed his little hannds with glee and exclaimed: “Yes, and she’s got all the right qualities, she’s female, bilinigual and a visible minority.”
    Unfortunately, he was right…

  9. I can’t disagree with the suggestions made here but I seriously think that Preston Manning should be considered. A great patriot, and arguably the most knowledgeable former politician Canada has had…..ever.

  10. Much like the regal, spendthrift Clarkson, at first blush M. Jean did not impress me much…..then she prorogued parliament to frustrate the troika but when she sat down with the folk and ate raw seal meat…..she earned her Order of Canada….IMNSHO.
Dosanjh should be transferred to Alert to read the thermometer…indefinitely.
    Lew McKenzie……..in a heartbeat.

  11. Got all the time in the world for Clarkson actually. The PPCLI did not make her the Colonel in Chief of the Regiment to be politically correct. They did it because she stood up for them. That, her speech at the internment of The Unknown Soldier and her Christmas’ and New Years spent overseas with the troops instead of hosting parties. Yup all the time in the world for her.
Jean? She to has impressed when I really did not think she would.
All that said, Lew MacKenzie in a heart beat for GG.

  12. I second the comment by gunney99,with the right person in the office, it can have some positive effect, as when the current G-G defied the EU and ate seal meat!
The Victoria Times-Colonist must be staffed by graduates of UVic, the leftiest-left wing U in all of Canada, and the alma mater of half the NDP’ers in the Province.
Any body BUT Dosanjh or Kim Campbell.

  13. Wasn’t Dosanjh a member of the Communist Party of Canad at one point? My oh my!! What have we come to?
Might as well have Gilles. 😉
    Forget Kim too.
We need Rex to counter balance the biased lefties at the Globe and Red Star.
MacKenzie or Manning would be alright.

  14. I’m not sure Canada is ready for a GG who’s name translated from Hindi is Fart-Herder.
Then again we could suggest Wee Bobby Rae, the MP voted the ‘least likely’ to get a job as a Boy Scout Leader.

  15. robins111.
Great idea! Keep him out of the loop for a few years so he won’t usurp Iggy’s claim to the throne. Next election, I want Iggy to be the Liberal leader. That should ensure a majority for PMSH.

  16. The Dose doesn’t even belong in the parliament buildings. How about Stephi?..nevermind

  17. Any retired officer (MacKenzie, Hillyer, deChastelain, etc) for commander in chief/GG. Wait a minute, I served for 36 years, am bilingual live on the West Coast and have eaten raw seal – why am I nominating these other guys? I volunteer!

  18. Go Aviator go . . . ya got my vote.
Ahhhhh crap . . . they won’t let me vote for my rulers in this country.
Lew or Rick would be great . . . preference to Lew . . .

  19. Preston all the way.
He would be able to deliver a speech which could rally the nation and put the blowhards in their rightful place, all at the same time.
Second: Don Cherry!!! We may need him to negotiate with the Norwegians and Swedes!

  20. Hey why not let Obama be GG of Canada since he’s so loved in Canada. The REAL Canada Ontario & Quebec would embrace Him like a geek god.
Just think of the opportunity as Obama represents Canada?
He will bring change & Hope to a Nation under the boot heel of Harper. He will do for us like he’s done for America’s Marxists.
    JMO

  21. Go Aviator. Without knowing a thing about you, I’d bet a weeks pay you’d be just as good (or better) than any of the GG’s in my lifetime.
Also, why only Generals? How about some love for these guys?

  22. The Times-Communist always calls for its own to infiltrate the establishment.
Yes, the Times COMMUNIST…….a paper that always backs the NDP. It’s a pathetic rag, that, due to its ongoing success, no longer prints a Monday edition.

  23. The appointed GG is never a good thing. The only thing it accomplishes is it maintains a compliant media. Owl Oliver’s pandering to the Liberals went into overdrive when Clarkson was appointed and entered hyperdrive when Jean was appointed.

  24. Well if ‘war crimes’ Dosanjh is being bandied about, then I should put in for the job myself!
If that Canucklehead has so much respect for the troops why did the LIEberals send them into the field with antiquated crap and the ‘beloved’ Iltis jeep?
At least I lobbied for mine proof vehicles and the Leopard II tank like a good descendent of the cavalry!
Secondly I wouldn’t need body armour when I reviewed the troops.
And besides who could argue with “Beer uber Alles”?
Becks, Stella Artois, Molson Canadian, Kokanee, Granville Island Pale Ale, or Moosehead?
    Cheers

    Hans Corps
    1st Saint Nicolaas Army
    Army Group “True North”

  25. EZRA ! EZRA ! EZRA! EZRA! EZRA! EZRA! come on he would be perfect for the job.
    Paul in calgary.

  26. Rick Hillier or Preston Manning. Either man would be great for the job and as much as I respect Preston, I’d have to go with Mr. Hillier.

“Putin Marks Soviet Massacre of Polish Officers (Putin at Katyn)
MOSCOW — Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin on Wednesday became the first Russian or Soviet leader to join Polish officials in commemorating the anniversary of the murder of thousands of Polish officers by the Soviet Union at the beginning of World War II.
Mr. Putin cast the executions as one tragedy out of many wrought by what he called the Soviet Union’s “totalitarian regime.””
“Russian and Polish soldiers laid wreaths at the base of a towering red Orthodox cross.”

  28. Hey Hans, how about Great Western Light?
We need Ezra to be able to speak publicly to keep giving black eyes to the Kommissars at the HRC.

  29. Are you people crazy!
There is only one feasible candidade for GG.
    Her initials are Kate McMillan

  30. I would like MJ to stay on for a while longer. She’s hot and sleeps with an old white guy. Unfortunately, she has run her course. If,after the next election, the commies try to pull another coupalation, she may,in the interest of balance (after all she is former CBC),grant them the opportunity to run and ruin the country.I agree with Atric and others for now, Mr. Manning would be my choice.

  31. Lots of really good contenders put forward here today, most of which sprang to my mind as well. I will be the first to nominate Kate then shall I? Think about it.

  32. Dosanjh would be a nightmare.
Think about the fact that the NDP were the binding glue between the Liberals and the Bloc Quebecois in the BlocCoalition attempt to seize the government in 2008/2009.
This is the reason that I respect Michele Jean.
She knows that Quebec separation is a fool’s bluff.
Dosanjh would LOVE to allow such as coaltion to seize the rule of Canada.
Just give him the chance and you’ll rue the day.

  33. Warren Kinsella for GG. If it’s a mockery we want, let’s go for it with unrestrained gusto.

  34. Ok – So how do we dispense with Bob Rae? Can we establish a Canadian embassay in a Taliban cave somewhere? We could send Jack there too.
    Lewis MacKenzie works for me.

  35. I think Conrad Black would make a wonderful GG — testimony to the effectiveness of a “tough on crime” approach. Actually, I really do think Black is just the right kind of person for this job (he is already a Knight or something isn’t he?), but I guess he is not likely to get picked. Well then, what about his wife?

  36. I also like Preston for the job, but the left would have a fit. They seem to have a knee-jerk response to him . . . failing to appreciate his truly wonderful qualities. Manning would be excellent!!!

  37. I say LESLIE NIELSON…. With the proviso that the scriptwriters for Naked Gun and Police Squad are brought on board as his chief advisors!

  38. The gg is the commander in chief of our armed forces. Haven’t the forces endured enough of this crap without now suggesting ujjal as their commander? The last 2 gg’s with their questionable (objectionable) consorts didn’t bring much to the table. Harper won’t make that mistake. Whoever he appoints will bring honour and respect to the position. The troups will be proud.
