It’s the Anglos’ turn, and who could be more uber-anglo than Preston Manning.
Don Cherry makes a lot of sense but is too old, doesn’t want it and hurts the CP in que – something that wouldn’t be a problem if they had a majority. Plus he has the most important qualification of all – he works for the CBC.
This is a remarkably tough decision: minority and coalition threats make it necessary to put in someone who can be relied on to side with the CP and they must have appeal or a last be neutral in que and really across Canada. It is evidence of how varied this country is that there are so few people who fit the bill.
John Crosbie? Too old perhaps. He’s already lieutant GG in NL. No French not that that is a complete deal-breaker.
Clyde Wells? The mulroney crowd would go ape$hit but he would be my favourite.
Preston manning – too busy and too polarizing.
Lew Mackenzie – as for Preston.
Hillier – too soon after retiring – should run for house or senate
Peter Kent – his riding is too much at risk to be spared. He does have the CBC cachet
Lloyd Robertson – too old can’t be trusted.
Rex Murphy – no French not known in que.
Bill van Der zalm –
Lanny macdonald
jlc @9:16 – ooooh, let’s start a Facebook thingy!
I can see Lewis MacKenzie or Rick Hillier as GG; both have integrity and would understand what’s required of the role.
As for Dosanjh, surely you jest:)
.
.
Does a GG need to have a birth certificate?
What about aspiring to that American concept of freedom of speech?
It should be easy to find a pacifist commander-in-chief.

GG must speak French, after all the Queen does. Hopefully that would invalidate Dosanh, he doesn’t speak French does he? Unfortunately nor does Manning.
Does anyone remember that Preston Manning retired from politics because he had a bout with cancer?
Lew McKenzie
Rick Hillier
Did you notice that the CTV Web-site’s wretchedly biased Globe and Mail didn’t even include Lewis MacKenzie or Rick Hillier in its poll on preferred candidates for Canada’s GG? (Whoever writes their poll questions should be dunked in fritter batter and boiled in rancid nut oil.)
“Warren Kinsella for GG. If it’s a mockery we want, let’s go for it with unrestrained gusto.

You’re not taking into consideration the Canadian CATS’ feeeeelings.
Oops, it was the CTV poll, not Globe and Mail (my attempt to edit went horribly wrong..)
Julie Van Dusen .

I have a friend who lives in Ottawa who was teaching Manning French. Whether it stuck or not, I don’t know.
“Got all the time in the world for Clarkson actually. The PPCLI did not make her the Colonel in Chief of the Regiment to be politically correct.”
Oh, was there a regimental vote on that?
Good-oh for her if she lifted army spirits at the time when Chretien’s budgets were decimating the army. But I have the feeling that the average PBI guy would have gladly traded her visits for new planes, tanks and guns.
Funny, all I can remember about Her Royal Harness is stuff like her $8 million dollar circumpolar junket, replete with CBC cheerleaders and various lefty tag-alongs.
Sort of think this PM will surprise all of us with his choice for GG.
“Are you people crazy!
There is only one feasible candidade for GG.
Her initials are Kate McMillan”
Kate only speaks English and Saskatchewanian.
Dosanjh is fluently bilingual, and there are probably damned near as many East Indians in Canada now as there are French, though Dosanjh isn’t popular with a large segment of the EI community.
I’d like to recommend Gordon Campbell, anything to get the SOB the hell outta here!
Justin Trudeau if ever there was a Queen in training I’d pick him. The job is in Ottawa mostly.
Is there a Native with Canadian armed forces credentials out there that is acceptable?
“Justin Trudeau – if ever there was a Queen in training I’d pick him.”
That made my day Speedy…probably my weekend!
“Is there a Native with Canadian armed forces credentials out there that is acceptable?”
David Ahenakew? I think the NDP would probably still nominate him…dead or alive.
How about Elvis Stoyko?
He can kick ass, and skate around the opposition at the same time.
