The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation asked Sheldon Kennedy to come on TV — but said they could only put him on the air to tell his story if they could find a representative of “the other side” for “balance.”

Excuse me while I vomit.

Oh crap, let’s forget Patio Lanterns, let’s just go BTO.
“You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet”
This is unf*&%ing believable.
It’s time to demonstrate the power of the people through SDA (Kate-care to endorse this??). Let the CBC know how you feel about the need for ‘balance’ when it comes to reporting the reaction of a victim of sexual predator to the National Parole Board granting a pardon to the sexual predator.

Last night I was watched at and followed from the bank machine. Considering reluctance of police in the past to come out and do something just about any situation, should I bother contacting them?
eh… DWO – try clicking the link.
Yeah, no kidding. Incroyable.
Or how about:
“The CBC asked 14-year old child bride Naleema Mufti, whose face is badly disfigured after her husband threw acid in her face, to come on TV – but they said they could only put her on the air if a male representative of the local Taliban council was there to provide ‘balance.'”
On the matter of machete-attack victim Nick Bergamini, and the CBC’s desire for *balance*, who, precisely, would the representative of the “other side”? And what might be the nature of the balanced counter-argument on the matter of the machete attack?
Something about Israel, presumably.
Balance on CBC? When has that ever stopped them?
Michael Coren interviewed Nick Bergamini(the young man involved in the alleged machete attack)on his show last night and Nick revealed the same thing happened to him. The CBC wanted the ‘other side’ for balance. Unbelievable!
Boots, ya gotta CLICK THE LINKS 🙂
EBD, I like that French word, “incroyble”.
I DO know how to express indignation in either language.
Why is is this unbelievable? – this is the CBC. This is Canada; home of U of Zero, Carlton, the Regina 16, whack a Jew Week, J-school graduates, and on and on!!!
D’oh! Sorry Kathy.
Odd the CBC couldn’t just go to their usual sources, ‘Some Speculate”, Reports Suggest, and ‘Many Wonder’.
I guess they must have all been out of town for the weekend….
Oh wait, Reports Suggest was doing the Geurgis mortgage story.
I’m surprised the CBC let Canadians know the World Trade Towers were attacked by terrorists since I don’t think any of the terrorists gave an interview for a “balanced” view. Oh right, they had Avi Lewis back then.
Kate – link works if you cut and paste.
A good response to the CBC clown would have been: “Two against one? What’s objective about that?”
dont forget the most famous CBCpravda byline starts.
“Critics Say”
or “Liberals Blast”
DWO. Not YOUR link. MY link.
My guess is that there enough pervs working at the CBC to adequately represent the ‘other side’.
I must be really dense. I could have sworn that there wasn’t another side.
one can only hope this is a result of CBCpravdas continuous tirade against tasers.

The last and only balancing act I would like the CBC do is at the end of a plank.
here’s the balance
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2010/04/06/exconvicts-legal-name-change.html
now they just say we couldnt find him
From the CBC comments many are blaming the victims here for being too vocal and bringing it upon themselves. unbelievable…
If the story can be spun with an anti-CPC or left wing slant, CBC usually can be relied on to say something like “we contacted the [other side] but they refused to appear.” That then gives them licence to air a slanted, one-sided rant with the host and the speaker(s) taking turns Tory bashing.
After the event, we often learn that the CBC had placed unreasonable conditions on the conservative spokesperson, like wearing a clown suit or holding a sign reading “Dick Cheney for Governor General” or “I hate poor people.”
Islam: Raiding the Jews: Raiding Canadians.

Book Review: “A God Who Hates” by Wafa Sultan
From the desk of Fjordman on Wed, 2010-04-07 10:35
The book A God Who Hates: The Courageous Woman Who Inflamed the Muslim World Speaks Out Against the Evils of Islam was written by Wafa Sultan, a Syrian-American ex-Muslim.
Breaking with Islam takes tremendous courage, as the traditional death penalty for leaving Islam is still upheld today. The only good byproduct of Muslim immigration to the West is that it has allowed a handful of such former Muslims to publish their thoughts about leaving Islam.
One of these titles is Leaving Islam: Apostates Speak Out, edited by Ibn Warraq. Another is Understanding Muhammad by the Iranian ex-Muslim Ali Sina, the founder of Faith Freedom International. I have reviewed his book at Jihad Watch previously.
In her writing, Wafa Sultan draws extensively on her own personal experiences as well as those of friends and others in her society, especially the women, who suffer from an appalling level of brutality and repression. She manages in a very convincing manner to tie many of these problems directly to Islamic teachings, all the way back to Muhammad, his wives and companions. Far from representing a “perversion” of Islam, she shows us that the repression and violence that is endemic in Islamic societies represent the true essence of Islam.
In sharp contrast to the self-proclaimed “reformist” Irshad Manji, whose knowledge of Islamic doctrines is quite limited, Sultan shows us how Islam was born in the Arabian desert and is still shaped by this 1400 years later. The raids Muhammad and his companions carried out in his lifetime – which amounted to at least twenty-seven if you believe Islamic sources – occupy a major part of his biography. They were intended to acquire booty, but also to inflict physical and mental harm upon rival tribes in order to deprive them of their ability to resist.
Wafa Sultan, page 66: “For me, understanding the truth about the thought and behavior of Muslims can only be achieved through an in-depth understanding of this philosophy of raiding that has rooted itself firmly in the Muslim mind. Bedouins feared raiding on the one hand, and relied on it as a means of livelihood on the other. Then Islam came along and canonized it. Muslims in the twenty-first century still fear they may be raided by others and live every second of their lives preparing to raid someone else. The philosophy of raiding rules their lives, the way they behave, their relationships, and their decisions. When I immigrated to America I discovered right away that the local inhabitants were not proficient in raiding while the expatriate Muslims could not give it up.””

I am sure the Ottawa police, and Nick’s lawyer would love if the CBC had found the person responsible……good luck with that though.
Knowing the CBC they would have put them on and provided full anonymity.
DWO:
“Let the CBC know how you feel about the need for ‘balance’…E-mail: ombudsman@cbc.ca…”
Correct me if I’m wrong, but my understanding is the CBC Ombudsman is an internal advocate for DEFENDING the CBC. It’s not for bringing public complaints against the CBC. I don’t believe any of the publicly-funded Left institutions in Canada have mechanisms for complaints because they are unnecessary — any Canadian with half a brain knowns that our “Nouveau Aryan” progressive class reached “Super-Race” perfection at least a generation ago!
In a related matter, the CBC in its infinite and omnipotent wisdom has finally found proof that the Harper government knew about torture — it was last night’s news headline. They discovered a “Secret Memo” where the Harper government refers to “former KGB Soviet trained torturers” among Afghan intelligence cadres. And in its infallible journalistic honesty, the CBC was careful not to mention how the CBC vehemently opposed the U.S. backed Afghan insurrection against the brutal Soviets back in the ’80’s.
Hmm…former CBC Soviet comrades still carrying out torture in Afghanistan and Harper found out about it — so Harper must be to blame for the torture. The CBC logic is so “Aryan” super-race genious and above the intelligence of my peon-like brain, that I simply fail to grasp it. But being a retard, I at least have a right to my simpleton opinion: Maybe the CBC is pissed that Harper finally found out who is really responsible for the torture in Afghanistan? The Commie Left and their propagandists in the Left Media. But what do I know — I’m just a retard…
Never forget that LTTE supporters in Canada too carry machetes and clubs in their vehicles. The muslim students of Carelton don’t hold monopoly to being armed and ready for confrontation. But carrying guns for self-defense is still a foreign concept for Canadians, as critics say.
Clearly the machete user was simply defending himself from the violent Zionist terrorists, known to roam the streets at night.
What Shawn said @ 1:45
Very clever post, Kate.
I saw that Coren Show and was shocked by the attitude of the CBC.
Typical CBC editorial meeting:
“They’re at the post,… and they’re off!
Critics Say takes an early lead follwed closely by Some Speculate and Liberals Blast! Alleged Suspect is going to the outside! Reports Suggest and Many Wonder are fighting it out for fifth place and are trailed badly by Screw It We’re Marxists and Commies Forever….Responsible Journalism has wandered off and is eating flowers at the side of the track, and the jockey has spilled his drink. The saddle has come loose and he’s hanging upside down under his mount.
Down the backstretch….!
So a Machete attack is not a criminal story , it is a political issue. Not really surprising…it is the CBC. Sadly, the crack team of journalists probably can flip through their rolodex and find an expert prof who will rationalize this situation. I an sure that racism and lack of sufficient immigration funding is the root cause. Maybe if taxpayers built some mosques these youths would be so inspired by the religion of peace that they will become tolerant and calm.
I see, you were hit on the back of the head. I suppose that type of thing happens…(to a Jooooo)
Thanks Michael Coren, I’ll be chuckling over this for the rest of the day:
“For balance, The CBC is looking for a member of the machete-wielding community”.
Kathy Shaidle: I’m finally reading your The Tyranny of Nice. Terrific. I’m thinking, not 5% of the Canadian public knows anything about the HRCs.
Dear SDA family: buy multiple copies and send to your friends. Though much of this is already familiar to us here, it is nevertheless a must have summary, for it is easy to forget just what a truly lunatic country we’ve become, notwithstanding that we are widely believed to be the “best country in the world” (TM)
The balance is he wasn’t executed or spend his life in jail. Anything short of that is the other side.
Has there ever been a poll asking Canadians if they would prefer to keep or disband the CBC? If not, why not? If so, when and what were the results?
Thanks so much, Me No Dhimmi! If people would like to get copies of Tyranny of Nice autographed by Mark Steyn (who penned the intro) they can order right from his website.

Sorry folks – The revolution will not be televised.
The Left media and the Marxists created the “Frankenstein’s monster” of what is today referred to as Islamo-fascism and the new wave of anti-Semitism that has emerged since 9/11. The phrase “Israeli Apartheid” was first coined by a coalition of Left activists, Neo-Nazis, and Islamic radicals who held the first anti-semitic conference in South Africa a few months preceding the 9/11 attacks. Unfortunately, the historical significance of that event was overshadowed by 9/11 itself.
And if we go back further, the fact is the former Soviets supplied arms and training to the PLO going back 40 years, and extended their support to all of the nascent anti-semitic and radical Islam groups that have come to prominence today. The purpose was to ultimately control and subjugate the Middle East for the purposes of atheistic Communism.
It blew up in the Soviets’ face in Afghanistan, and now the entire world is paying the price for the rise of radical Islam even though the Soviets are long gone. The Commie Left in the West needs to finally fess up and publicly repent for their historic responsibility for the mess instead of trying to placate the monster thay created and blame the rest of us. The CBC needs to repent.

Going
ricardo, I’m just in the process of reading “Vengence” by George Jonas. An look into the world of terrorist groups in Europe and the middle East. Mostly funded by the KGB, there were hundreds of organizations that were just given free reign to, well terrorize, the West. Communist China was involved to a lesser extent. Still going on today. Just different and many more supporters.
Hey, what were you folks expecting…balance, objectivity? It’s the CBC for cripes sake!
Just another one of our great, failed sacred cows (bilingualism, multiculturalism, immigration, aboriginal affairs, health services, climate change, to name a few others) that no politician in this country has the guts to tackle.
Well, maybe with the exception of Danielle Smith…we’ll wait and see.
CBC does have the story up,but they have it buried in local news for Ottawa.I am guessing that if the tables were turned and it was a muslim making the accusation,it would be given much more coverage. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2010/04/06/hate-crime.html#socialcomments. FIRE.THEM.ALL.
Gunney99:
“…terrorist groups in Europe and the middle East. Mostly funded by the KGB, there were hundreds of organizations …”
And if you go back far enough, surprise surpise, even Castro’s Cuba was involved. The first International Islamic Conference took place in Cuba in the late ’60’s (c.1968) and that’s where we saw the first political alliances forged between radical Islam and the Latin American revolutions (genuinely pious Muslims would not chose an officially atheistic State of “infidels” such as Cuba if the conference was for religious purposes). Those alliances are coming to fruition today with Chavez and the Bolivarian revolution and his ties to Ajmadinajad, the imposition of Sharia law in Iranian funded hospitals in Morales’ Bolivia, etc.
Another little known fact: The FSLN (Sandinistas) of Nicaragua supplied logistical support for the suspected Islamic terrorists in the first World Trade Centre bombing of 1993 (I can document if necessary).
The historical evidence is overwhelming and I could go on and on…so where the heck is our Billion dollar funded CBC for keeping the public intelligently informed?
Don’t confuse the CBC with a news organization. They are simply a political organization with a broadcast license (and $1.3 B of our money).
Odd the CBC hasn’t played the ‘bracing for the backlash’ card yet.
Perhaps they feel they can ignore it and it will go away.
maybe Graham James has moved to the USA in anticipation of Obamacare.

There are some issues that don’t require ‘two sides’.
The holocaust.
Or pedophilia.
As William F. Buckley remarked: ”
The purpose of an open mind is to close it, on particular subjects. If you never do — you’ve simply abdicated the responsibility to think.”
