In an unprecedented move, India on Saturday joined China and two other developing countries to prepare for a major offensive on rich nations at the Copenhagen conference on climate change next month.
The four countries, which include Brazil and South Africa, agreed to a strategy that involves jointly walking out of the conference if the developed nations try to force their own terms on the developing world, Jairam Ramesh, the Indian minister for environment and forests (independent charge), said.

The developing nations will also not accept any pressure from developed countries to establish legally binding emission targets at Copenhagen. Developing countries want to be allowed to reduce emissions voluntarily and take what they consider to be “nationally appropriate actions” he said.

    It is going to be pretty interesting to see how it all unfolds, or unravels.
    That India would take two contradicting positions says just what exactly about the whole process. This is why Canada needed a proper negotiationg strategy as opposed to the pollyanna feel goodism of last time. This is serious stuff, other nations are negotiating, we better be prepared to be just as hard nosed on our own.

    Their continued success is critical to any nascent global economic recovery. Avoiding silly restraints on that growth is, therefore, paramount. Good on them for refusing to be hoodwinked into any economic straight-jacket.

    OT, I agree with O’Reilly yesterday, it appears we are marching towards WW3. At this time the west is weak financially, morally and politically, or should I say vulnerable. If there was ever a time to destabilize the worlds security and economy in an attempt to redefine the proverbial map, that time is coming. I have to believe that China, Russia and many of our other “friends” are planning for this contingency, it’s only practical. I just wish I could believe our leaders were doing the same. Would this scenario effect AGW treaties once they’re signed?

    and water pollution. Based on solid science it
    kills. CO2 is a theory that may be proved right
    or wrong in 20 or 50 years. Not on their radar.
    If you read technology transfer as free and
    billions in carbon credits to fix a problem
    they have to fix. Who would say no ?

    If China cares so much about their pollution problem why do they have a space program and designs to make a moon landing instead of spending the money they currently have to mitigate the problem?
    Isn’t “going green” supposed to be a smart economic move from a productivity standpoint?

I wrote an email to my Conservative MP yesterday demanding that the hypocrisy ends and that they start debaiting climategate in the house of commons in an attempt to force CBC, CTV and others to start reporting on this…I told him that at this state in the game most voters with brains would applaud and support a leader who would dare be politically incorrect and start officially denouncing this scam of religious proportions…Too bad I did’nt have the Australian example to attach.
    I am convinced they all know now it’s a crock of shit but are afraid of being pointed as heretics…They will let things slowly unravel on its own and hope it will eventually dissapear…No one will be brought to justice, no one will pay.
    They are all complicit IMO (Governments, Green industries and advocates, MSM) and because of the internet and great blogs like SDA they have finally been exposed. Believe you me, that “semi detached conspiracy” in essence is a lot more scary than melting ice sheets.
    I can’t believe they will let us continue unfettered with the internet much longer after this worldwide cyberspace revolution on a perpetrated and orchestrated lie is vanquished once and for all.

    May be the case. Remeber though this is a negotiation, so people have opening positions and then move from there….some are doctinaire and won’t budge, I think Brazil might be in this camp.
    Harper and Obama (the odd couple) know nothing gets passed in the US congress without there being binding committments from all. I think the Chinese know this will be the case, hence their attendence. The threat will be trade sanctions to bring the racalcitrant on board….the Euro’s will push this position.
    But, this is no longer a greenie fest, which will prevent it from turning into anything really radical or stupid, like what Chretien did at Kyoto…oh lets agree to more so we can beat the Americans (effing idiot)
    As long as terms of trade dont get upset then you may well see an agreement. There may be a buyoff, but I think many, including China are wary of providing definitive lifeblood to the UN kleptocrats.
    This is the nice thing when there are others in the wealth tent, or about to enter, they begin to adopt your point of view.
    Of course Brazil wants the exemption, like Alberta, because they are sitting on huge amounts of the evil carbon stuff.
    Any agreement will be a reasonable and thoroughly unsatidfying to the greenie’s.

So let me see if I’ve got this right – while environmentalists are dumping on PM Harper for not reducing greenhouse gas emissions enough, three of the world’s biggest polluters – China, India and Brazil – are giving them these same environmentalists the finger and telling them they’ll continue to do as they please?

  24. I surmise that BRIC has figured out that if we go forward with ClimateScam, that our economies will be so badly damaged that we cannot consume their products and services. Every Yuan or Rupee I give to Blood and Gore, or the UN, when I fill my tank or heat my house is a Yuan or Rupee less I can send to China or India.

    Carbon is one of the basic building blocks of life on earth. Any attempt at taxing carbon in any way, shape, or form, constitutes a tax on life itself. I have a “right to life”, no local government, unelected global government, nor any unelected bureaucrat from the corrupt UN has any right to place a tax on life.
    The new EU President Herman Van Rompuy recently stated: “2009 is also the first year of global governance, with the establishment of the G20 in the middle of the financial crisis. The climate conference in Copenhagen is another step towards the global management of our planet.”
    Given also the recent revelations regarding the fudging and manipulation of data at the Hadley Climate Research Unit which is the major source of information for the IPCC, and the blackballing of over 1000 renown climate scientist who didn’t agree with the theory of AGW, I would like to know what the hell is going on.
    If this agreement in Copenhagen is signed, the only conclusion I can come to is our politicians are more concerned with Big Government, Big Business, and Big Green, and enslaving the entire population of the world to benefit and greatly enrich a few large multinational corporations. Al Gore is the biggest global warming scam pusher in the world, and is becoming extremely rich through it.
    As any dictator or tyrant knows, the best way to control the population is through fear, such as fear of catastrophic global warming, be it real or imagined.
    Scientific fact is not determined by a consensus, political policy is. Scientists belonging to the Flat Earth Society came to a consensus that the earth was flat, that doesn’t make it a fact.

    I got a reply the next day that it was being forwarded to Jim Prentice.
    When there are thousands of emails coming in every day. Being long-winded does not get you noticed.

  41. My local MP told me at his Christmas party on Friday that Canada would set ‘attainable’ goals at Copenhagen.
    To me that means Canada will rag the puck, protecting its engine of the economy.
    A much more reasoned approach than that buffoon Chretien and Kyoto’s owner Dion.
    Of course, that won’t be good enough for the environazis, who would like to dictate to you how you should live your life.

I sent an email to PM Harper urging him not to sign any treaty limiting Canada’s ability to set our own energy policy,in other words, no cap and trade or emissions reductions,and urging him to stand up against this AGW nonsense. This morning I got a phone call from the Cons.party looking for a donation. I told them I would not contribute money until after I see the PM’s handling of this issue and whether he truly puts Canada’s interests first.

  49. Let’s not forget the work of Bjørn Lomborg – who is *NOT* a climate change skeptic. He posits that warmer temperatures will save lives until 2200. His models state a life saved through “climate change aversion measures” will cost ~$100 million. A life saved through more conventional means would cost $2000 per. (Weird calculations, but whatever).
    So, for all those arguing in favour for regulations to prevent “climate change”, how many lives are you willing to sacrifice for your cause; people who could otherwise be saved through cheaper means (mosquito netting to prevent malaria, antibiotics, vaccinations, etc)
