Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

As I recall every single MP…liberal or conservative all voted for war…..except for the leader of the CCF, the fore runner of todays NDP. Funny how somethings never change huh???
Of course this is going to go unmentioned in our MSM. After all,we were fighting to destroy their “imperialistic” buddies and fellow socialiat/commies after all.Not to forget the Lieberal gubbermint of the time friends also.
You’re wrong. I knew.
Everything else, though, you were right on.
And our Prime Minister? It is so easy (and enjoyable) to blame “The Media”, as though it was some mysterious omnipresent force, than to ask the question of the one who represents us, or is supposed to, and show leadership, or is supposed to.
But I suppose, what do you expect from a PM who thinks “we will not cut and run” and “we will not tell the enemy our timetable” is the same thing as “we will leave in 2011. Period.”
Ted,and you don’t think our own CANADIAN PRESS would not be splashing these timetables all over the front pages. And if they don’t print them the GD opposition sure will ensure they get out onto the airwaves.Don,t be blaming the Conservatives for the dishonorable way the opposition and Canadian press operate.
Canada was in a war once? No way!
Bert: I honestly have no idea what you are talking about.
The point of the post is that an important moment in history passed by unnoticed. Kate accuses the media of dropping the ball. I just point out that we should expect leadership from our leaders on such thing and Harper dropped the ball moreso than the media.
And go on to say that that is not surprising from Harper since he made a committment to Afghanistan (like Iraq) that he is now running from. We have not had leadership in Ottawa for a very very long time.
Ted,
Am I to understand that you operate on the premise that the government should dictate important historic events which we should remember? And preferably the PM should be the one doing the announcements?
I was hoping that the feds would just stay out of my life and I could rely on the free press to keep me up-to-date on goings on, but I guess the daily “On This Day” speach every morning from the PM would be handy after he dictates my daily diet and exercise routine. Maybe after that PMSH could let me know if the trains will be on time too.
Ted said: “I just point out that we should expect leadership from our leaders on such thing and Harper dropped the ball moreso than the media.”
Uh huh. Okay Ted, I’ll play. Harper’s a non-leader dork because he didn’t announce anything.
So, what does this say about Iggy and the other two Stooges? You know, your guys?
http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/remembers/sub.cfm?source=collections/cmdp/mainmenu/group01/cdn_vc
So, which one would you guys say is the Canadian equivalent of Mitchell Paige?
Libtards are blood thirsty dipshit’s ….and the one time they called a war it was a agianst the very same ideals that they operated under ..except that back then the pendulum was alittle more further right ..so a liberal was still ceter to right on the scale ….see hitlar in today’s world by liberla standards of today would be considered a centralist just liek they themselves claim to be LMAO the count is on a sinking ship so are the dippers and boob rae ….they have systematically pissed off there own clapping seals so many times that if and most certaily when f*cktard iggy calls an election harper WILL win the majority govornment he has been praying for …then he will not have to pander to the liberals ….and this country wil once again prosper ..and i am poor and very heavily in debt and i drive a 92 grand prix …and yes i am all about capitolism what you puti n is what you get out …none of this robbing from peter to pay paul bullshit …liberals your going the way of the doedoe thankfully !!!
Paul in calgary .
I think iggy’s election talk is beginning to drive teddy mad…
So, Ted, how do we know our PM said nothing about this anniversary? Most of the things he does and says are unreported in the Canadian media.
My Yahoo server greets me every morning with “the news,” under the headings In the News, Entertainment, Business, Sports, and Tech. Except for a headline this afternoon about the Honourable Jim Flaherty’s announcing that Canada will be in a deficit situation until 2015 (BAD NEWS about the CPC), I have hardly ever seen news about PMSH or the CPC.
I’ve often wondered about this. Is my Yahoo server Canadian? ‘Must be, given the article on Finance Minister Flaherty.
So, if Prime Minister Stephen Harper had anything to say about the 70th anniversary of Canada’s declaration of war, how would we know? Who would tell us? On what newscast would we hear it? From whom?
Tell me.
Ted’s funny in a Liberal sort of way.
Desperation is always funny.
How about 8 years ago and Charlie Sheen 20 minutes with Obama speaking out on 9/11. Oh, but Ellen Degenerus will be on American Idol. Good questions Charlie but TV told me your a crazy conspiracy truthor and TV never lies too me. Whats that TV, yes yes on my way.
CBCpravda is getting the propaganda arm of the liberal party oiled and ready. they are so blatantly liberal , the dippers should complain.
The one week delay in declaring war is an interesting facet in itself. PM King was persuaded to wait by highly placed Canadian, British, and American officials.
The supposed reason was that Canadian war material supply contracts placed in the USA for Britain would have been illegal exports to a country at war. The delay allowed completed portions of contracts to be shipped to Canada that week and the rest finished and stockpiled in the states pending Washington sorting out the needed changes in export regulations.
Ted, you’re mental.
The truth is you read about yhings like “70 years ago today Canada first declared war on its own” in blogs. You -never- see it in the MSM, because the MSM is very very determined not to mention it or anything like it. Might give people ideas, y’know.
Like maybe people might realize we’re at war right f-in’ now and want to know how its going. Which they can’t find out in the MSM.
Or they might realize that this country has a history, and they might want to know what that is. Which they can’t find in the MSM.
Or they might wonder who f-ed our country up so bad we have to bring all the whole army home in 2011 because they’re tired. Which we do, because they are and we can’t replace them fast enough with new guys.
What do we get from you? “…it isn’t such a big deal and the attempt at trying to find something else to accuse the MSM of botching was rather lame.”
They didn’t botch it Ted. Its deliberate.

read the 1st paragraph what the famous lieberal monsieur turdeau thought of Canadian involvement in WW II.
Wow, I’ll never bait that troll again. Talk about a lack of reading comprehension. Just came out for a fight I guess…
Hey I didn’t know about this anniversary until I read about it in a BLOG!
And neither did any of those lefticle trolls.
The media sucks which is why blogger’s are becoming so powerful. And the lovely thing about living in a socialist country like Canada is that you get some lovely taxes on your cable bill monthly now because they suck that bad…….
Liberal – Tory … same old story.
Are there ANY other Libertarians out there in Canada??????????
70 yrs ago was when the democracy of the world still new what evil and good was. Germany invades Poland on sept 1st. The West says pull out in 48hrs or else. Thus 11am Sept 3rd UK declares war. Followed by France at 5pm. Australia and New Zealand declared war at once. South Africa defeated their gov’t. The new gov’t declared war at once and then last but least Canada on the 10th. We were the brave ones who went to war. Not the USA, not Russia. Just those 6 countries. We should remember that. Now we don’t have wars we have police actions.
mad maxxx makes the point and does the history lesson.
Though instead of the P.M. I’d like to see our Gov. General make that historical reminder. She’s our non-partisan, head of state. And the Liberal media are forbidden by their own P.C. code of conduct from trash talking an immigrant, woman of colour.
She’s turning out to be my favourite Liberal appointee.
‘Not the USA, not Russia. Just those 6 countries.
We should remember that. Now we don’t have wars we have police actions.’ Mad Max – just to add on to your statement:
In Sept, 1939, the USA had a left wing Liebral in power, F.D. Roosevelt and he didn’t want to upset his Bolshevik pals who were invading Poland from the East as Hitler attacked in the west. The Soviet Union operated under the same mandate as Nazi Germany and they had signed a non aggression pact prior to the invasion of Poland – they had agreed on the division of Poland prior to the invasion: the Soviet Union executed captured Polish Officers in the Katlyn woods (I hope that is spelled correctly) to make sure Poland would be left without Military leaders.
Canada, in 1939, was a British protectorate and went to war with England by default (Australia, New Zealand, Kenya South Africa..also declared war shortly after England). We all have so many reasons to be proud of the soldiers that fought for the freedom of others in that horrible war; they were the ones we should cover with glory, in my opinion, not M.King who had to talk to his dead mother before he made any decision. Our soldiers triumphed in spite of very poor leadership from the top.
My Mom, who was there, still honors the leadership of Sir Winston Churchill, M. King is a footnote in history and I cannot recall hearing any of the WWII soldiers that I knew, ever mention his name in context with the war.
Our Prime Minister, Hon Stephen Harper, always has been very supportive of all Canadian soldiers – the pullout from Afghanistan was a response to the UN/NATO countries who signed on to the conflict but did not send soldiers – Canadians have done the heavy lifting; now it is time for some of those other countries to do their bit, IMO.
Ted go back to your moms basement and try to stop smoking that sh!t. Oh and yes you are so full of it it looks like your eyes are brown.
Try reading something besides the stuff from Carl and his pals.
I have an uncle who had his 90th birthday a few days ago. He was a combat soldier in WW2, serving in the artillery. He was in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Normandy-France campaigns. He rarely talks about it but from what he has told over the years, he, like most of the combat vets, went through some awful times that we fortunate non-combat-experienced civilians can’t really grasp.
God bless him and all the WW2 vets who are still with us.
(BTW, I read an article in the London Daily telegraph a few weeks back that the UK is now down to it’s last living WW1 veteran. Don’t know about the US or Canada. Anyone got any info on that?)
Dave in Pa,
As of May 8, 2008 John (Jack) Babcock was Canada’s oldest WW1 vet. He lives in Spokane, Wa. (where he moved after the war and gave up his Cdn citizenship). CTV reported (on May 8, 2008) that his citizenship was reinstated (back in those days he had to relinquish Cdn citizenship th get US approved).
Wiki says he’s 109 so he’s still with us. Good health, Sir, and Thank you!
Ted – I said Roosevelt was pals with the Soviet Union. Your little discourse is full of holes – Roosevelt was trying to nationalize property in the USA through his “New Deal” and the Army you say he was building was likely for domestic purposes. If it had not been for the vindictiveness of France after WWI, Hitler would have not lasted a day in Germany.
Soldiers returning from WWI were treated very badly in all countries after WWI; the WWI soldiers here in Canada and in the USA were not in favor of helping Britain and France and certainly not the Soviet Union(after the Bolsheviks switched sides) but the bombing of Pearl Harbour and the leadership of Sir Winston Churchill changed that…
I recently spent 4 years researching a book about Churchill which I recently published called Churchill’s Secret Skills.
Winston was always very complimentary about the Canadians, and how they were first in to support us Brits from day one, a Canadian army was on its way to France to help out even before Dunkirk, that’s how quick off the mark you guys were. Well in advance of anyone else.
I put a great little story in the book about how Churchill wanted Newfoundland fishermen to help out with the Atlantic patrols as they were great seafarers.
In addition you must also not forget the great efforts made by Canada to build ships send food and weapons to help out.
Canada played a key role in the Battle of Britain, the most important military engagement in recent history, not only did Canadian pilots take part but many British pilots were trained in Canada.
The Canadians never whinged about wanting their troops back like the Australians. They we implacable in their support through thick and thin.
Long before America entered the war Britain knew that it had a steadfast ally in Canada. Canada deserves to share the glory of the victory in WW2 as much as any ally.
