  1. Hmm… Looking at the Desmogblog, I could not find any concern whatsoever with smog. It seems smearing Harper and McCain/Palin is their only focus.

  2. An aside on F1: It’s is a big political joke (and it always was). They just announced the cancellation of the Montreal Grand Prix for next year (the only race in NA and one of the best attended) due to inside political fighting and short term make-a-buck-ing instead of maintaining and growing interest in NA.
It’s interesting that F1 cars run on premium gas, Indy Car (and CART) runs on pure ethanol (and always did – just like the fuelly dragsters), and Nascar now runs on unleaded gas (before 2007 Nascar ran on leaded gas) and is moving to ethanol.

  3. Indy Car (and CART) have always run on Methanol. Quite different than Ethanol. Dragsters use 90% Nitromethane and the remainder Methanol. Sheesh, you couldn’t be more wrong if you tried.

  4. Loved the response that poor Jasmine(OZ) couldn’t understand why Aussies where losin interest in AGW,especially with all the media coverage. As Blair said, sometimes mesda lie. ROFLMAO

  5. Any time I have visited the Desmogblog I have seen next to nothing about smog. You remember smog; that’s the pollutant that turns the air a greenish brown over cities and contributes big- time to the rapid increase in childhood asthma. The stuff that keeps elderly Torontonians inside their homes during the summer.
That was the area that the Conservatives pledged to tackle rather than the chimera of CO2 emissions. You remember CO2, that’s the gas that fills the Desmogblog web pages. That’s the stuff over which there is a growing consensus that the politicians, including the Conservatves, have let themselves be stampeded into trying to eliminate at the cost of ignoring all the other environmental problems. That’s the stuff that leads to calls for shutting down the petroleum industry and bringing the economy to a dead halt while we spend ten years trying to figure out how people without jobs will be able to pay for the green solutions. Smog is off the radar because it can be cleared up without massive government intervention and that doesn’t suit the social engineers including the author of Desmogblog.

  6. Good thing for the AGW crowd they changed the meme to Climate change vice Global warming I guess. They can point to any event now and claim it is a result of man made pollutants. Where the loud mouthed lead, the weak minded will follow!

  7. The crooks that have perpetuated this scam Suzuki/Gore along with the crooked ceos in the big US companies should be rounded up and delivered to Joe Arpio in Phoenix. Joe is one of the last law men in North America with balls. He would give these theives that have brought about this monetary destruction some pink gaunch and 17 cent meals. The amount of money this global warming scam has cost is unreal, everyone should be at the doors of the perpetrators with torches and pitchforks. These socialist pricks are all connected, look at the lieberals, greens, ndpee, wwf, sierra clubs all out to get the Conservatives.

  8. Notice how all these Global Warmers always talk about “the science” and that you can’t deny “the science”, yet they never quote “the science”? They only seem to be able to recite anecdotal stories about the polar ice caps melting? I discovered why they never quote the actual amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere; if they did they would be laughed off their soap boxes! There is only 380 parts per 1,000,000 of CO2 in the atmosphere, of that only 110 have been put there by mankind over the last 100+ years! And only 2% of that 110 parts per 1,000,000 were made in Canada.
If Canadians were reminded daily that the political left in this country wants to spend 10’s of BILLIONS to reduce our national CO2 contribution from 2 parts per 1,000,000 to 1 part per 1,000,000 over the next 100 years, the left-wing in this country would die a lot quicker than they claim the polar bears are dying.

  9. DeSmog – what a joke !
Richard Littlemoreorless – the Joker !
” .. but the Liberals aren’t losing this election because Dion lacks charisma ” Dick Morelittle
Have you seen the one about Dion telling his golfing joke ? If not, you are lucky.
” The Liberals are losing because the NDP has pushed tax-averse voters into Stephen Harper’s lap.”
    Awwwh, like .. what ?
The NDP tax pushers are scaring people !? Hello Richard. Who is pushing the carbon tax ?

  10. Peak Oil. Remember that ?
Oh yes, the Suzuki crowd said we are running out of oil and so we have to go biofuel (which produces more CO2 and eats our food) and wind (which is unreliable) and solar which is pornographically expensive) and other pie in the sky dreams(not yet invented).
And Dave said we had to listen to him. The situation is dire. That is why scarce oil skyrocketed to $147 !!
So how come oil has now plunged 47% ? Down to $78 !! Like, over supply maybe ?
I wonder if the price of oil went on it’s wild ride for the same reason the stock market is ?? Fear & greed & speculators – all stoked by a fear
    mongering media?

  11. Why does it feel like we’re watching a new Mel Brooks movie? How’d he get MSM and Ghia to follow the script?

  12. AssPress say, It’s not CO2; it’s “pollution in the air”.
    AssPress, indeed.
    …-
“The upside is that in hard economic times, and with high energy prices, the amount of pollution in the air tends to decline. But environmentalists say it won’t be enough to stop temperatures from rising.”
“Global warming gets U.S. political cold shoulder”
“The U.S. is not alone. As the economic crisis has spread to markets across the globe, work to curb greenhouse gases elsewhere has stalled.
Earlier this past week, Rajendra Pachauri, head of the UN climate panel, said discussions about global warming solutions were “on the back burner.”
Pachauri shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former U.S. vice-president Al Gore for their work on climate change.
“I’m absolutely sure that climate change will be the last thing people will think about at this point in time,” he said. “Sooner or later, they will come back to it.”
The upside is that in hard economic times, and with high energy prices, the amount of pollution in the air tends to decline. But environmentalists say it won’t be enough to stop temperatures from rising.”

  13. Referring to your headline, Blimey, Bloke!
Remember that most of the first Australians were from the working :^) classes of London. This is why I often get confused with Australians, as being a bloke from London. I also use such words as Bloke, Blimey, Now Worry, Crikey (as a kid I did), Stone me, etc.
Interestingly, they also have the same love for rhyming slang. For example, they call Yanks Seppos; Yank -> Septic Tank -> Seppo.

  14. Politics came up, by chance, in my local pub this afternoon.
Many people considering NDP or Greens. I respected their choices.
OK I was wearing a big blue HARPER sticker on my clothing; but had honestly forgot I was wearing it.

  15. Trent: your argument that the amount of CO2 is small so there is no effect is not valid. Following that logic, botulism is no threat since the fatal limits are so small.
In regards to the science, I would say that there are two fundamental facts that you can consider.
    1) the CO2 molecule will absorb and re-emit longwave radiation.
    2) shining more longwave radiation on an object will warm (or decrease the cooling rate) of an object.
Which of there do you disagree with?
    Regards,
    John
