Red Alert: CBC Journalist Abducted?
Evidence contained at this page indicates that the 19-year veteran of CBC television news may have been kidnapped and his computer used to access the CBC website. Partway through the message, it appears MacDonald struggles free to send an encoded cry for help (“Different, eh?”), before being subdued.
Anyone who knows of the whereabouts of Neil MacDonald is advised to contact his captors, and request they keep him.

Don’t bother reading the comments at the end of the article unless you enjoy wading through the usual CBC leftist Islam-apologia horse shit.
Yeah, the best that can be said for those is “stomach churning”.
Right from the get go, MacDonald gets it wrong when he states that Steyn is a Vermont based writer when if fact Steyn lives in New Hampshire and has talked about it many times in many venues.
Vermont is a cesspool of leftist perversion and New Hampshire still has the plaid shirt wearing gap-toothed gun owners whose state motto is “live free or die”.
It’s no accident that Steyn chose New Hampshire over Vermont.
I have to disagree with McDonald when he says “we Canadians simply don’t have a history of free speech comparable to what exists in the U.S.”
At 57 I’ve alway believed in free speech. Were did that come from. Probably, from our Mother Country, England.
All the anglo-saxon countries believe in free speech to the same degree. The difference is that the US constitution protects it. Without this protection, leftists in the US would be trying to try Steyn
For the record, John V, New Hampshire requires a permit to carry a handgun on one’s person, whereas Vermont does not.
The comments are very illuminating, southpaws touting how smart Canadians are while simultaneously demanding that opinions that they are allowed to be exposed to be restricted. You’d think such erudite folks would be able to see through all the hate propaganda, no?
Neil MacDonald kidnapped? For ransom? How much is anyone willing to pay for a Lefty Turd?
KEEP HIM! He’s spread enough manure to stink up the entire country.
Seems to me that the majority of those who decry Steyn’s observations on Islamic behaviour as ‘racism’ are either a) Muslims themselves, with a vested interest. or b) Have never spent time in, or even been to, a Muslim country.
I hope he stays abducted, I don’t think he ever gave an honest report in his entire 19 year career.
Mr. MacDonald must have had an idea of how his posting would be read by his (CBC) audience. and for that, I am surprised he wrote this too, I am not surprised at the commentary following his statement at the CBC.
You can imagine the commentary if Mr. Steyn was offered employment with the CBC? well I can’t either but you get my drift..
Human nature like negative news and pay attention to it more than regular ‘…everything is allright…’
as you can see kid’s toy face is more ugly than nice face and children like to buy it and keep all collection of it or all game Playstation 3 and violance sell more for sure
supply demand of editors and have too many news wrong and right in exess of mix and match
if not morality behind it can be direct audience in wrong road as you can see picture are usualy show bad side in middl east if you add few more words people pay attention more to it
how you can understand real new and false news
how you can narrow correct news
even if you have correct news may interpretaion of the same news in middle east vs. West is not similar
when west bbc and cnn explain all false news how or how advertise group who pay big box for support their favor news can tehy control the real news
who can have real news what is real news and what is jung mail how we can tell audiend pay attention in important correct news
what is source of correct news
if media made mistake how they can fix it before it is too late
how we can train editors to write real important news not pick from negative to pay attention to real news
what direction media need t choose to be accountable to their news
while people are thirsty to know the truth
is public can handle real truth or can we tell them all the truth
let’s think about it for a while
USA not have good candidate for presidency
Canada are very week to understand international world politic still
what is important to support Canada inside and otside and waht is return to be good canadian
do we have to give good editor or good citizne price and punish the bad one or leave it free and give choice to people to made decision
free speech is different than hate speech what is boarder line is?
Whoa does Elmasry go to the same media makeover guy as Dave Suzuki?? Chills. Same grin, the joke will be on you.
Free speeh, eh? Why is Canada prosecuting Mark Steyn?
I noticed the title of the CBC bit by Neil. Perhaps someone can tell me what “speeh”.
You would swear this was written by one of the muslim sock puppets who are all over Steyn for speaking the truth. Grammar and spelling are not Islam.
For the record, John V, New Hampshire requires a permit to carry a handgun on one’s person, whereas Vermont does not.
Your point is meaningless since Vermont is inhabited by

What exactly is it about sarcasm that everyone from Steyn’s accusers (who complained about it in court) to this dude find so upsetting?
It comes up again and again in criticism of Steyn, as some kind of de facto, goes-without-saying point against him.
I don’t get it. Are lesser beings just jealous/fearful of Steyn’s prowess with that particular weapon?
And what exactly is wrong with “sneering at certain Muslim practices”? Most of them deserve such sneering, no? Or am I to conclude that good little Canadian liberal multi-culti robot Neil Macdonald APPROVES of women wearing scarves against their will?
I wonder how long it will be before a Canadian journalist gets their head cut off for something that they write in Canada against Muslims?.They like to record and broadcast the procedure for effect also.
No, that’s same old slavering, slobbering, condescending Neil we’ve always hated and reviled. Same old self-righteous, self-satisfied, smug orifice he always is (Did I miss any pejoratives? Wouldn’t want him to think he’d matured any).
“As I have often tried to explain to my American colleagues, we Canadians simply don’t have a history of free speech comparable to what exists in the U.S.
Our institutions have been controlling speech and information for so long that we barely blink at things that would shock an American.”
I don’t know what Canada he grew up in, but this doesn’t describe any Canada I know or grew up in (since 1947). I always found (until recently) Canada to be no worse (or better) than the US about free speech.
What we have been, generally, is more civil, on average, less willing to tolerate rude speech just for the sake of it. But back then, civility was part of the “manners” package you got from home, from the “complete” family (along with the ” get the yes, sir” habit from school. LOL!).
Kathy makes a great point. Instead of jealousy or fear, I offer the reason for their criticism of Steyn’s sarcasm is political correctness, which demands respect for the “oppressed” religion of the day. Islam has supplanted Judaism as the most oppressed religion in the PC world, therefore any sort of sarcasm in relation to Islam is by default… how does MacDonald put it? Ah, yes… “contemptuous”.
come to think of it, Mark:
Note that amongst the most sarcastic when it comes to Judaism are — Jews themselves! Yet Muslims are thin skinned little nellies with no sense of humor, or capacity for self criticism or introspection.
I don’t think such a culture can survive for much longer but alas, I fear they’ll take us down with them.
haye – who can have real news what is real news and what is jung mail how we can tell audiend pay attention in important correct news what is source of correct news if media made mistake how they can fix it before it is too late.
haye, yoube the MAN — go for it, do it – spill your guts dude! There be no others who be worthy to do it, but you!
Skip: “What we have been, generally, is more civil, on average, less willing to tolerate rude speech just for the sake of it. But back then, civility was part of the “manners” package…”
It’s difficult to see through controlled “Free Speech”. How do you know that you weren’t told the truth or the complete story or that the story was not told?
Looking back on my Canada, I have to think Free Speech was always much more controlled here than in the USA. It just became normal.
This reminds me of an example. In Northern Vancouver Island, a gun store was handing out anti-Bill C-68 pamphlets to his customers. He was ordered to cease by the local RCMP. He complied.
this is the usual leftist crap from Kneel Mcdonald. he can hardly get a sentence out without slamming the “Harper Regime”
They got our weapons, they got our words, soon they will have our heads.Everyone should pay attention to Europe, and in particular Kosovo. There is a distinct pattern that has been followed wherever islam is allowed to flourish.Khaddafy(sic, maybe)was right, they will take us with numbers, not by the sword.Of course the sword will be always there just in case some of us uppitty folks don’t submit.
My my..Haye’s spelling and syntax is much improved over the last five days..it’s almost as if another, more educated person was writing it..funny that..
Neil MacDonald has always been a leftist apologist, and what with senate appointments for CBC employees at a premium these days, expect the rhetoric to increase in the months to come..
So, this CBC reporter doesn’t live in the real world, where averyone and his dog is familiar with the story.
Discovery: Canada claims the Artic.
John V. @2.33 PM.
McNeil calls Steyn “a Vermont based writer” to suggest he is an American. Even McNeil isn’t so ignorant.
Congrats to Kneel Mac on finally realizing that there is a story in all of this kangaroo kourt krap. I really must have been a slow news week for him to pick this up and run with it.
I also had a glimpse of the CBC’s comments pages and I venture to guess that not too many of the commentors have even read the book or listen to Mr Steyn. I am almost finished reading it myself and I find it interesting reading, especially when it is backed up by facts. I certainly hope there is some hope at the end of the last chapter for my children’s sake and any grandchildren that might come along.
I’m sure CBC’s reporters who cover Europe and China and Africa have strong opinions about this, too. Doesn’t really matter, though, does it, because CBC’s reporters and producers here in Canada evidently don’t think the censorship going on is even slightly newsworthy. CBC’s been delivering news stories about some overflowing lake in China, and on how horses in Saskatchewan are being sold for meat, and broadcasting as national news details of the recycling efforts in the Parliament Hill kitchen, etc etc etc. No mention of the fact that a bestselling author and respected columnist will soon be, for all practical purposes, unpublishable in Canada because of a Liberal-instituted parallel justice system stuffed with internationalist statist bureaucrats whose standards of due process are strictly third-world.
It makes sense that Neil MacDonald would write that article because when he’s broadcast he only covers US politics — it’s not like the views expressed in that article have any chance of making it to air.
I’d like to see 1,000 copies of his book handed out at the courthouse and around the courthouse, mailed to newsrooms and papers around the country. Or maybe Steyn could make a the introduction to his book available as a pdf, that people could then forward to anyone and everyone. I don’t know. I can’t stand Steyn or his stupid book, but afiac the every damn Human Rights Commissar needs to be put on an ice-floe and set adrift. They’d finally be doing Canada some good, helping to assert our Northern claims.
It may interest readers that the article Mr. McDonald refers to in Realclearpolitics.com was vwritten by Ottawa Citizen journalist extraordinaire David Warren, a Canadian.
So! Kathy comes on this blog to offer comment which is OK but I’m willing to bet she’s not even wearing a scarf. I’m shocked! Hussy! Jezebel!

What?
From Wikipedia…
Mark Steyn, born in Canada in 1959, is a self-described conservative polemicist whose opinions on politics, arts and culture are published in newspapers, magazines and online. He appears regularly on politically conservative radio shows such as those of Rush Limbaugh and Hugh Hewitt and has authored five books, including America Alone: The End of the World As We Know It. Steyn, a Canadian citizen, now resides mainly in New Hampshire in the United States. He is married with three children.
I noticed that the usual left wing tinfoil hat crowd were all over the CBC comments section of this story…..go figure.
“It’s difficult to see through controlled “Free Speech”.”
Gunney – Canada didn’t start in 1994. What you’re witnessing over the last 20 years is a complete failure of our educational system, not a trampling of speech. The difference has been that Canadians have always taken it for granted; the Americans regularly push the boundaries. Up until recently, we haven’t felt the need (or did we need to). With the advent of the self-justifying Courts of Political Correctness, everything has changed (I’ll overlook the irony of the first letter abbreviation).
Going there at the CBC blog I kept hearing the song “Over the rainbow” repeatedly, without remorse.
Makes one wonder how some of these folks actually survive in such an unreal world as they see it. How isolate they are they from how the humanity really works. It reminds me of cattle waiting for slaughter, arguing who will be first up the ramp. I have seen children with more wisdom.
Most have never read him, but bewail his writing. Where in a world of trouble if this is what passes for comment in liberal land. Adolecents with no historical, or logic applied reasoning. Just feelings with an aura of emoting. Debate is so passe, so why have free speech?
We are slowly becoming savages ourselves, brought to you by 40 years of Education Mandrins with neo-marxist nhilism & wacky teaching , all for the love of socialism, creating a new socialist superman. The sock puppets exemplify this new Canada of ignorance. Not there fault they where never taught the heritage of their new land. Nor a Civil rights with duties course.
Note this comment by Jordan Thornton on the CBC site:
To interpret, “if only the press would say just those things that we agree with, then we wouldn’t have to restrict them so much”.
Thornton is like a wife beater claiming that it’s the wife’s fault that he has to slap her around a little. “Aw honey, ya drive me crazy sometimes.”
“we Canadians simply don’t have a history of free speech comparable to what exists in the U.S.”
Absolute BS!!! And The firebrand Mayor of York Upper Canada would pee down your throat for repeating such rubbish.
Skip: “Canada didn’t start in 1994.” Got you Skip. Censorship didn’t start then either but how could you tell if you didn’t have a competing news source to compare your information with? The Reform Party of Canada used rallies and public meetings to get the information out to interested citizens. The MSM attacked them viciously without letup. Their principals were the best kept secret in the MSM. Before that, the attack on Diefenbaker was much the same. No one would hear that the Arrow was a lemon and that devaluing the dollar would stimulate our economy.
The HRC’s have existed since the 1970’s. Why have we just noticed them now?
To answer my own question: in the 1970’s something began to creep into Canadian media without too much notice. That was the radio talk show. Next came computer bulletin boards and then the Internet. The information revolution is upon us!
I am ashamed of what Canada has become and if things continue as they are, I suspect that I shall come to hate the country I was born in.

Revnant Dream
draw new joker Catoon at least we both can laugh; be carefull do not show it to other Muslim this time
Is Niel returning to Canada to appear in front of the HRC tribunal? He is quoting Mark Steyn and the Elmersay guy. Isn’t that what the National Post and Maclean’s Magazine did to land up in the Canadian “show trial” ‘court’? CBC will be brought to the kangaroo court too because like the Post and Mclean’s they printed what Niel wrote!!
Skip and Gunny – back in the glory days of Canada (pre turdo – 1967 – we had The Bill of Rights to protect our rights – the right to bear arms, the right to own property, the right to freedom of speech and freedom of the press, the right to habis corpus, the right to redress in courts, the right to smoke tobacco in public places, the right to tell your own children what to do, the right to fire unfit teachers, the right to worship God in public ….before 1916 we had the right to keep all the money we earned – income tax was, and still is!, an amendment – supposed to be suspended when the country had paid for WWI. Niel didn’t read any Canadian History in school or after – he sounds like he studied “Writing Fiction to brainwash Young Communists”. Some other guy did that though…
Anyway we look at it, Mark is legions above him in the power of the pen. Mark Steyn is one of the Greats and history will not even have Niel in the footnotes – anywhere – unless he makes a name for himself somewhere else.
A cbc reporter comes out on the side of freedom of speech? He must be on drugs. They will kicking his ass to the curb for that.
Now there goes his chance for ‘promotion’ to Al Jazeera….
Have to agree with expressed sentiments re Vermont. The comment thread for the story is absolutely shocking.
The National Post puts out ‘hate speech?’
You guys have already lost. Steyn has said as much already, and he is right. Steyn will be fine, like Solzenichen, the US will give him sanctuary in a small New England town. Canada, however, is doomed to to make the kind of serious mistakes only a democracy, where everybody gets a vote, but only a few get real information, can make.
To paraphrase somebody, “give me the right to control what you know, and I will care little for your right to vote.”
Did we read the same article? The third sentence says:”Inside the latest edition, Steyn, a conservative New Hampshire-based columnist who writes regularly for a number of Canadian publications,”.
