  1. But Kate. They are exempt because they had to produce the propaganda showing the sheeple of Canuckistan what a success the phony earth hour was! Give the poor little hypocrites a break…heh

  2. Kate, great wesite by the way, I just caught a bit of the end of Don Cherry last night where he took a strip of David Suzuki, something about him living in Vancouver where it is warmer and easier than other living in the snowy cold, even called him a left wing tree hugger. It was after the first hockey game. Wish I would have taped it.

  3. But, but, two rooms in PMO residence had lights on!! Meanwhile, Dion gave a speech by candlelight (how energy efficient of him).
Just think folks, if we turn off all the lights forever in Canada, we can reduce anthropogenic CO2 emissions by 2%, for a total of 2% of 5% of 3% of all greenhouse gases. Sorry can’t give that number right now, my calculator is only set for four significant digits, so reads zero.
Now that I think about it, zero is about right.

  4. CBC, just another case of: DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO!
Bravo for Prime Minister Harper! Did any one even think about his security if all the lights were turned off? What a bunch of morons.

  5. I looked up and down mt street here in Kelowna last night, and not one house turned off their lights for “Earth Hour”.
Ron, thanks for that Don Cherry link, the only guy on CBC worth watching.

  6. Report from this neighborhood: Having a good look at both the front and back neighbors and streets from our second floor windows during the ‘enlightened dark hour’ I can say there was ONLY ONE house within my view that turned their lights off! In fact I noticed more backyard lights ON than usual… hee hee!
Those solitary folks who had their lights off were right across the street from us, lol they had candles lit and were looking out their windows at the rest of us not sitting in the dark.
Didn’t bother to see if they pulled the full hour either.

  7. dmorris: I was watching the city of Kelowna as well, from across the lake. I didn’t see any lights go off any I sure didn’t see any come back on. But, most of Kelowna turns off the media anyways……..

  8. Liberals prefer the stone age. Now blame Harper for not making it so.
“In 2004, our emissions were 195 Mt above our Kyoto target. How much is 195 Mt? It’s the equivalent of more than all our transportation emissions – i.e., all the emissions from every car, truck, plane and train in Canada. We would have to pull every truck and car off the street, shut down every train and ground every plane to reach the Kyoto target negotiated by the Liberals.”

  9. Anyone catch the start of HNIC last night? They went so far as to get the great Suzuki on air to give his permission for everyone to keep the TV on to watch the hockey game!
I burst out laughing, at both Suzuki and CBC for being such tools.

  10. There is a cbc employee living on the same block as me.When I arrived home last night I made sure to look and see if all his lights were out,low and behold, his house had more lights on than any other on the block.

  11. Western Society has gone completely insane.
    There is no other explanation.
Our situation reminds me of a sci fi story I read once about a society that develops nicely then ever so often goes insane and winds up back in primitive times then has to spend thousands of years redeveloping itself.
The Canadian society I presently live in seems more and more like that sci fi novel every year. It’s really scary and very frustrating when we have such a pack of zombies on the Left leading the race downward.
Check this out if you want to small glimpse of where we are headed.
    Scary shit my babies!

  13. My grdau’ and her kids are completely brainwashed and my attitude last night did not go over well with her. I did say that what we could do as a family was change our lifestyle to that of the family of the girl I sponsor in Senegal. One of the most welcomed gifts they bought with extra money I sent was an oil lamp so the children could do homework in their mud hut.
Haven’t heard from her since. Maybe if I send her the link to Don Cherry’s comments it might help.
    Go, Don, Go.

  14. After reading this,
Even the most optimistic estimates, that is, those put out by the WWF, suggest that the energy saved had been the equivalent of taking 48,000 cars off the road for an hour. Sounds mildly impressive, until you express this statistic in another way: it was the equivalent of taking one car off the road for five and a half years.
I did a quick calculation, and came to this conclusion,
If we turn off our lights in Canada for 15 million hours instead of one hour, then we will have offset the carbon footprint of the 15 or so million cars we drive in Canada…
Oh and 15 million hours with the lights turned off is the equivalent of,
    625,000 days,
    89286 weeks,
    20,833 months,
    1712 years,
Yes and every 5 1/2 year we would have to do it again…

  15. “grdau'”: translation, please. Thanks. (Otherwise, I understand–and agree with–you !)

  16. Ok short version,
Every 5 1/2 year we would have to turn off our lights for 1712 years.
Where is my Nobel Peace Prize?!…

  17. And our friends in the USA would have to turn off their lights off for 27,392 years every 5 1/2 year to offset the carbon foot print of their 250,000,000 cars.
Al Gore stole my Nobel Peace Prize!!!

  18. In honor of this fiesta of fools, used as a hook
desperately trolling, for converts to reel them into the bosom of brother socialism via, “global warming” stunts.
I participated by generating enough methane drinking beer, to make 3 cows blush.
You have to hand it too Don Cherry. Even after the CBC did their censorship routine on him, he still has the
steel balls to say his piece. To be counted out of the rolls of the lemming crowd with not a wit of embarrassment.
As for the CBC, that picture says it all. In for the follies of this mad scam but as usual doing its best say one thing & do another. After all in the secret chambers of the heart, they style themselves as the elites above the common herd.
Typical Liberal, do as I say not what I actually do.
Nice to see Dr. Fruit fly shown for the great bubble of gas he truly is.

  19. The solution to cutting energy in the home is so simple I’m amazed no one has thought of it.
Have your adult children move out.
Our energy bills went down a lot after the kids moved out – no more showers until the hot water ran out, no more TVs, lights, computers, XBoxes, etc. left on in empty rooms, the fridge is opened less often and the microwave is getting downright lonely.
Who knew that, besides getting your life back, empty nesting was good for the planet?

  20. Granddaughter makes perfect sense. Many thanks!
(Honestly, minus the apostrophe–I take them seriously–I might have figured it out!)
gellen, are you a text messager?

  21. I’m gonna shock a lot of people on both sides ( left and right ) with this,
but divorce has helped a lot in increasing the foot print of western society.
For the same number of people ( a father , a mother and one or two kids ) who were living in one house now energy and resources are being used to warm/cool two houses, lights are on in two houses instead of just one et cetera…
That family does not eat more food but two refrigerators are kept on 24/7 instead of one, and so on and so forth…
Kids of divorced parents have stuff in both houses or in other words ; twice the number of toys, clothes and furniture which required twice the amount of energy and ressource to produce…
There is two of almost everything, using twice the energy and resources,
divorced parents also drive a lot more miles in their car for obvious reasons…and I could go and on with this…
Feminism which is the biggest “promoter” of divorce in western society has helped increase the use of resources and energy, and has helped increase our carbon foot print – almost doubled it!
I’m not saying women should stay in a bad marriage,
that is not what I am saying AT ALL
but before blaming rich white males for our carbon foot print increasing so rapidly since the 70s,
the left/feminists should take a long hard look in the mirror…

  22. Friend of the USA, you’re absolutely right.
And what a shame, that to tell the truth about divorce (I have plenty of personal experience of that), like feminism, is considered, indelicate.
How about this slogan: “It takes a marriage to keep a family green”?
    Fat chance.

  23. Lookout – sorry been in bed sleeping. Flu or some rotten thing has knocked me out.
    What’s text messaging? I’m 80 yrs old!!
I meant my grdau’r but my finger could have slipped.
I checked out SDA today just to have some contact with people living in the real world.

  24. So proud of Manitoba tonite…according to supper hr.news from Wpg. the “Big Flic” was a big “FLOP”..and Mayor Katz getting a scolding for not following up on his word to participate.Hmm,maybe 6 people being shot, with 3 dead, and a stolen suv killing a cab driver might have something to do with people wanting to be safe????

  25. Thanks, gellen, I’m enjoying your very particular way of spelling “granddaughter”: in all my years of teaching, I’ve never seen anything like it!
I’ve never text messaged myself, but you can Google it.
I hope you’re feeling better soon. Cheers!

  26. Friends, I prostrate myself before you and ask your forgiveness.
Last night we got home late from a day of driving hither and thither. At @2035, having just gone out for some Chinese food my wife told me of our neighbour’s phone message reminding us of Earth Hour. Having completely forgotten about the ‘sacred’ hour, I nearly choked on my freshly poured beer as I ran to the door. I immediately ran outside and proceeded to plug in the Christmas tree lights on our 30 foot Fir. At that time I noticed that our Ottawa street was totally immersed in blackness. When I proceeded to turn every light on in the house, my wife and daughter looked at me as if two heads.
My weakness lies in my inability to weather the storm of criticism I received. Over Chinese food by candlelight, they subjected me to pines of feel good sentiments towards the Earth. Notwithstanding the fact that I cycle to work or take the bus, compost, recycle, take 4 minute showers, do laundry in cold water, don’t use drive-thrus, and don’t idle my engine etc I relented. Not wanting to ruin an otherwise delicious meal, I pulled the plug on the lights, having assuaged myself that I had made the point, albeit for 15 minutes, that at least one occupant of our household refused to be labelled as a sheeple. I’m only sorry that I didn’t snap a pic of the lights against the otherwise darkened street.
To close, please forgive me for my weakness. 🙂
