  1. Joanne, let’s not forget tazers were brought in as an alternative to using deadly (read bullet) force. Cops should work out more is nothing more than a idealist’s dream. I don’t know how you could have missed it but people on drugs can exhibit incredible strength that a cop or three cannot counter. And just what part of “Drop your weapon or I’ll fire” do these idiots not understand?
I have an idea, lets tell those bad boys not to resist arrest or threaten the officers or others with deadly weapons. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Personally, I’d be more likely to shoot the S.O.B but then that is why I am not a cop.

  2. I’ve been reading some stories on the deaths of people who have been tasered and it seems to me, excessive tasering was used – number of times tasered and the length of time tasered – two minutes and 49 seconds is beyond long – and the people who were tasered did not warrant that alternative – even a pregnant woman who was nine months pregnant was tasered, and she just refused to sign a ticket and went off to the restroom. Anyone who has been nine months pregnant knows the restroom comes first.
I’m all for the police protecting themselves, but taser the nutjobs, handcuff them, and then throw them in the back of the cop car pronto.

  3. Joanne, you said,
** I’m all for the police protecting themselves, but taser the nutjobs, handcuff them, and then throw them in the back of the cop car pronto. **
I would change only your word *Nutjobs* for the words * potential Cop-Killers*.
Mental illness scares people, including young police who have never been exposed to the mentally ill.
Throwing a net over someone who is having a fit or fighting off imagined demons is the civilized way to safely gain calm and control.
The Taser is so often used on people with mental behavioral issues, one wonders about the quality of situation control training in
    our RCMP recruits.
Two years ago a mental patient was acting up. The local cure was to drill him with a bullet and let him recover in Saint Joeseph*s hospital. A bit heavy, I thought.
Since the late 90*s, the RCMP under the Liberals and pension fund sifter, *Scorchadeli* seems to have racked up a lot more *mistakes*.
That*s when they changed to a super-corporate bottom line style force.
It may be super efficient just to dispatch the mentally ill, but I doubt if the majority of Canadians are that callus. = TG
