Y2Kyoto: The Fine Art Of Environmental Appeasement

Henry Payne;

In his conversation with The News editorial board last week, [Rep. John Dingell – D] made clear his objections to his own party’s misguided green agenda even as he touted his own environmental record in shepherding the 1990 Clean Air Act to passage. As head of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Dingell is determined to pass GW legislation, but “I got to write a bill, and I got to write something that will work.”
The Clean Air Act, he says, is a prize example of a bill that worked. But “worked” is a relative term. When asked if the act de-acidified northeast lakes (the headliner problem that sold the1990 bill), Dingell frankly admits that he has no idea.
“I haven’t heard much about it,” he goes on. “It’s a long term problem. But now that they have legislation, the environmentalists have moved on to other things.”

Geez, sounds like a state run “ponzi” scheme.
It’ already in the process of shafting the poor latecomer countries into the EU.
    So is Holland deeply involved?
History should remind the EU about the Dutch “tulip” market, (while not exactly similar) and how it ended up.
Do you suppose AL Gore has refined the GW “ponzi” scheme in the US for John Dingell’s close scrutiny.

  2. I’m glad to see someone make the distinction between GW and environmental responsibility. While GW chases cow farts around the planet taxing and offering absolution from harmless flatulence for a price, sound environmental policies attack toxic particulate air and water pollution.
That said, with the industrialized/technological west facing the greatest attack on our prosperity and security from unrestrained Chinese industrial hegemony and commercial trade monopoly, Our representatives and leaders need to be sent the strong message that every frivolous or stage managed regulation they place on our industry and productivity is to the direct advantage of China, Mexico, India and any other malevolent nation who wants to attract our industries with low tax and regulation.
Making industry responsible has been the trend here since the end of WWII…since the advent of green extremism it has been the consumer who has been burdened…it has been at a cost. Our competators want to remove the indistrial and consumer cost of being responsible to steal our industries… our leaders have allowed them in to trade freely against our industries who shoulder environmental costs for running a business here, then they are forcing them off shore to compete.
One of the greatest killers of both our industrial strength and environmental responsibility was the lowering of trade tariffs with nations with low/no environmental standards.
Chinese goods undercut Canadian and US made goods because the manufacturer does not pay the cost of cleaning up the mess his production causes.
The black industrial soot cloud that China has belched out selling cheap goods to the west, will impact the environment more than any of Al Gore’s climate fantasies….and it will cost us all to clean up after the Chinese.

    Says it all !!
And in Canada we ended up with a scam more costly even than Chretien,s big one. Where were his advisers anyways ??
Who was one of Jean’s enviro minister ?? Dion ??
Newly on-line in 1996, I was searching for informative weather sites. I was shocked by the quality of Environment Canada’s web page back then.
Now I know why it was so bad.

Plus it doesn’t hurt that China has a labour market where a few hundred million people are looking to work for peanuts.
Don’t expect the US to take a hard line against China. Not with the Chinese providing hundreds of billions of dollars in financing for the current misadventure in Iraq. The People’s Republic has the US by the short and curlies.

Now doesn’t that just sum the whole thing up?

  6. This whole GLOBAL WARMING is based on junk science and unreliable compurer models and a power grab by evil enviromentalists and political hacks wanting to expand their powers
