Fauxiled Again

Ynet;

An Iranian state news agency used the Photoshop program to manipulate photos in order to try and back up claims that the US was behind a spate of bombings in southeast Iran, a popular American blog said.
On Sunday, Fars said in a report that terrorists using “US-gifted arsenals” were behind the bomb blasts which killed 11 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards last week.
The report claimed terrorist arsenals “have been confiscated” in police raids, and included an image with a red circle drawn around bullets with a USA tag on them. US dollars were also visible in the photograph.
“The weapons that the terrorists have used are US and British made. Moreover, the arrested terrorist agents have confessed that they have been trained by English-speaking people,” a senior Iranian official was quoted as saying.

But not before the LA Times published the Iranian claims, without mentioning the obvious hoax or considering its implications.

Here’s the thing: The Winchester USA brand ammunition I’m familiar with (I sell it in multiple calibers) doesn’t look anything like the box on the photo. Typically, when ammunition is stacked, the top of the box is obscured, and so most ammunition manufacturers, including Winchester, put the caliber of the bullets on the end of the box, as seen here in a picture of showing the common packaging of a box of Winchester USA brand 7.62x39mm ammunition.

  1. I have several boxes of this winchester ball ammo marketed for civilian use…I have it in 7.62 russian and 7.62 NATO as well as 5.6 US…I still keep the reloaded brass in these same boxes.
The boxes in the pix are legitimate…those are genuine winchester civilian ball ammo in the russian mil round….the catch is they haven’t made this box for over 8 years so either the photos were shopped from very old Winchester ads or the Iranian insurgents are using ancient US civilian military ball ammo. 😉

  2. Not sure which is is sadder, the attempted photoshop or the fact that the MSM once again has been duped (willingly?) into spreading the propaganda.
No wait, the sad part is that arabic papers will print the picture as fact causing many more willing to go KABOOM for the cause!

  3. A dim/duped/duplicitous MSM is par for the course and a pox on them. But I hope the Americans and Brits really are supporting an insurgency inside Iran. Give the Iranian bastards a dose of their own medicine.

  4. According to a new post at LGF the grenades are Russian ordnance. Sorry, but I can’t recall the type.

  5. Who cares if Iran gets a dose of homegrown medicine with a little help from our side. These whackjob mullahs and their thugs are just lucky that there are enough wimps on this continent to keep them from getting NUKED!

  6. The law of unintended consequences suggests that (a) there is a firestorm of Anti-American protest in Iran, (b) the mullahs (not being in on the secret) declare a fatwa and demand death to the evil satan (c) Ahmedinajad under this pressure declares war on the USA and launches an attack on US forces in the Gulf, (d) All Iranian military installations are turned to glass…
(hopefully after all westerners have gotten the hell out of hell).

  7. The Iranis are buying surplus ammo off e-bay..LOL
Does anyone think for a moment that the US is stupid enough to equip. any supposed geurillas with branded/identifiable ordnance?
I actually hope they ARE sending whack squads to roast the Iranian Guard.

  8. How come every photo like this is a fuzzy half out of focus type photo. Don’t they know how to focus a camera over in Iran?

  9. Iran is a terrorist sponsoring country that belong to the UN its time to tell them to screw it and time to give the UN the boot and tear down the UN building SCREW IRAN and where a lot of iranian terrorists went they dare not say anything bad about the GREAT SATAN becuase their in his presents

  10. I’m getting pretty good at spotting photoshop work and yes that picture is obviously fake. It is decent work but I’ve seen better.

  11. W.L. Mackenzie: I have 2 boxes of new purchase Winchester civilian Ball ammo, 5.56Nato. Neither of the boxes have the caliber on the front or the “USA” Symbol? They have a double black line around the perimeter, not a blue one and the lot number is on the front. The printing style of caliber looks much like a box of 7.62X54 Russian from, Bulgaria I think. The symbol of the pony express rider is missing? Not doubting you but this could narrow things down to possible date of manufacture which could help determine authenticity.
Why would any US or allied forces have boxed/loose ammo? It’s useless??
I know our Reserves bought their own magazines at surplus stores 10 years ago but that’s Canada fur ya.

  12. Gunny: That’s the point with this Iranian photo shopped photo…A) the ammobox is of a style made by olin 8-10 years ago and B)this was made for civilan consumption this is not GI packaging
Well I bought a crapload of this olin ammo 10 years ago when I was shooting mil comp with my M14 and that is the exact box that my Olin 7.62 NATO came in as well as the 7.62 Russian I used in my SKS plinker…winchester didn’t even put their logo on it when they first came out with it it had olin’s logo only on one end flap…I guess the idea was to impress civilian customers with the minimalist military style of packaging. Come to think of it when this stuff became really popular with civilian military plinkers ( it was 8 bucks a box) the price started to escalate and the boxes got “prettier” and Olin started putting the winchester logo on them.

  13. When the Iran/Iraq war was happening, the US supplied munitions to both sides. Could this be leftovers from that war? The US was just recently found to be supplying airplane parts to Iran.

After following your link I see that you are running to be a candidate for the Green Party. Of course comments like yours are the reason that the Green Party will be hard pressed to ever win a seat. I hope you realize that the internet has a long memory and your comment may come back to bit you in the butt

  15. The USA does maintain contact with the MEK a terrorist group that does conduct assassinations and bombings in Iran. I doubt the neocons having learned the lesson of Iran-Contra would be supplying them with weapons in such a direct fashion.

  16. Yes, I wonder when Elizabeth May was last down to southeaster Sask to witness the “ecologocial devastation” wreaked by the Rafferty Alameda dam she resigned her job over when she worked in the Federal government.
Oh. That would mean admitting she was a fool.

  17. Those look like rimless cartridges to me, much like the 308 Winchester, 7.62 mm NATO or possibly (I’m not sure off hand). The AK-47 is the weapon of choice for the majority of terrorists/insurgents from that part of the world. The AK-47, which I’ve fired plenty, uses a 7.62mm x 39 mm cartridge. However that cartridge is a rimmed cartridge, so those would probably not work.

  18. sarge here. little confused by the above statement. 7.62×39 soviet a rimless cartridge for SKS and AK47(not ak74). currently such winchester ammo is manufactured at privi in yugoslavia, rather than by winchester. probably not the case in EARLY 90s when this style box was used. 7.62x54r russian is a rimmed cartridge, but those aint them-that would be fodder for the svd druganov and mosin rifles. intersting to sarge at least the green plastic packed battle packs i n the upper left corner look like the unmarked iranian made ammo sent to boznia in the early 90s during that conflict-sarge has stacks of such ammo in sarges gunroom. at the time many thought such ammo was being supplied by iran at the behest of the USA as covert support before clinton and nato became more obviously involved in ending the conflict. that being said sarge dont really know if this is real photoshop or not only that the USA sponsors armed anti governemnt groups in iran and have admitted to such sarge thinks in the end iranians claims about as credible as tony snows claims of al kud up to eye balls in iraq providing copper disc penetrator bomb technology 1st used by the french resistance in ww2 and common knowledge to all who care and easily made by the average highschool shop student
