StopIggy.com update

Some additional news concerning the StopIggy.com anklebiting website.

First, it turns out the site wasn’t down as I thought. When I use Firefox, I see the “Site Disabled” screen. When I use Internet Explorer, it works fine. I’ve never seen that happen before.

Second, and far more interesting I think, is a conversation I had last night with a top Liberal strategist. He tells me that the StopIggy.com website was the work of a leadership campaign team, and that Marsha Akman is a willing stooge. Moreover, and this is where things get really strange, he tells me the party has to know which campaign is behind it because the lists provided to each campaign team were subtlely different. Each was seeded with different fake names. If a list was leaked, all that had to be done is check which fake names were contacted as a result of the leak and which ones weren’t, and the source of the leaked list would be revealed.

If this is true (and I would tend to believe it since I would have done the same thing had I been charged with protecting the lists), then why hasn’t a move been made to punish the guilty party involved? The answer to that question is far more important that what Marsha Akman thinks of Michael Ignatieff.

You can read about this conversation and some of the speculation at Angry in the Great White North.

  1. This list scam and all the dirty trick politics the liberal hopefuls are engaging in is fan-freaking-tastic. I hope this turns realy bloody (in a political sense). The liberals are collectively slitting their own throats with this.
Can you imagine any moderate slightly-left of center voting for them to run the country when they can’t even manage their own leadership contest without resorting to lies, deciept and subtrifuge?
Who does that leave? The NDP? Not bloody likely for a moderate to vote that way as Taliban Jack Bin Laton is hell bent on dragging his party further into nut-bar territory.
The next step my friends is nothing less than a Conservative Majority.

  2. Hedy Fry has set a record, a first, in the history of political polling.
Hedy Fry laid an egg; a zero; 0, as in zero, nil, nada, rien. What’s the word?
    L’oeuf; love it.
Hedy Humpty-Dumpty laid a rotten egg. Hedy Zero Fry-ed.

“The day began in suitably Kafka-esque fashion. Rae called a press conference to announce that leadership rival Hedy Fry was withdrawing from the race to throw her support to him. Since Fry was not chosen as first, second or third choice for leader by any of the 1,000 respondents to an EKOS Research poll on the weekend, it is safe to assume this has not changed the race’s momentum.” “She literally got zero. Is it Volpe’s Italian heritage which convinced him that taking campaign contributions from 11 year old children was a good idea? Was it Volpe’s last name that propelled him to stick the knife in the back of Jean Chretien so that he could make it into cabinet? Was it Volpe’s immigrant roots that made him an absolute disaster as, ironically enough, Minister of Immigration? Or is it Joe Volpe’s friendship with Alfonso Gagliano, another “discriminated” against Italian-Canadian, that convinced him that paying for people’s memberships was acceptable?
Racism is a very, very serious accusation to levy against anyone, nevermind an entire party establishment. And in this case, Volpe’s credibility once again falls flat with these trumped of claims of being an “outsider” who allegedly “isn’t Canadian enough” to be leader of this country.
Hey Joe – if you choose to marginalize yourself as an oppressed political figure, go right ahead. But do not take the most inclusive and diverse political party in this country and tarnish its name and reputation because you have run a horribly inept campaign. Let’s face facts – it wouldn’t matter whether you were Indian, Chinese, Persian, Russian or Spanish – because anyway you slice it, you are a disgrace. …-

  4. maz2 said “and tarnish its name and reputation”
Hate to break it to you maz2 but it’s laready tarnished both in name and reputation.
Only those with their heads burried so deeply in the sand that they can’t hear themselves fart think otherwise.

  5. maz2,
Volpe always plays the race card. It’s the old old Liberal strategy of claiming “racism” and you’ve won the argument before it started.
Remember he claimed racism when the Western Standard ran their “Liberanos” edition about Ad-scam?
He claimed racism when, as Minister of Immigration, he appeared before a Commons Standing Committee and the Tories were questioning his spending in the Estimates (if I remember correctly)
Also remember he trotted out the racism defence when he came under fire for spending $200 for a dinner for two at a pizzeria. After all, only Italians eat pizza right?
I dislike Liberals/lefties for sure, but I despise Volpe types. This guy always has been, and always will be, a disgrace to Canadian politics.

  6. Sorry Steve for the Off topic here But this is just too good:
CBC.ca is reporting on a speech given by Canadian Ambassador to Afghanistan David Sproule in St.John’s.
near the end of the article:
    “Quit Dirty War, Critics urge”
Quote: among the critics was Elizabeth Rowley a member of the Communist Party of Canada, she said she dosen’t agree with the ambassador.
“We’ve actually engaged in a really dirty war that originated in the United States & Canadians don’t support that, We should get out Now”
The 2 things i see with this is that Taliban Jack has finaly found an “Ally” and it is the “Communist Party” Looking better all the time jack.
And the CBC makes it look like there are many when using the term Critics, is that not plural!
The CBC only uses one interview in the article,Should it not have said “Quit dirty war, critic said” So have the CBC run out of CRITICS?. Beside’s I would say they are getting pretty hardup, Like come on the “COMMUNIST PARTY of CANADA” Give me a break.
Were there no other critics even there?
    thanks sorry for the interuption.

  7. Anyone who purportedly resorts to the tactics that Volpe has is definitely “not Canadian enough” in my books. Obviously he skipped Coffin’s course on Ethics, or did he?
    What a Party!
It should be obvious to everyone by now that, if they’re that willing to screw each other in the race for the top, one had better question how far they’d be willing to go (again)to stay there.
Although that question should be purely rhetorical by now.
    Go Harper!!

  8. It is not a “race”. Rae is, at the very least, programed to win. Just like Paul Martin. Uncle Mo is pulling the strings. And as all in the blogsphere knows, Maurice Strong is argueably the most INFLUENTIAL MAN IN THE WORLD, let alone LPC politics.
This Liberal Party “leadership race” may, just may, blow open a Canadian scandal that has been going on since the 1960’s. Why now ? Because the MSM has always been complicit, but with the Internet & news blogs (MSM auditors), the mask is off.

  9. Zip,
I hate to burst that bubble you’ve been farting in to. There is no precedent or indicator that supports your diatribe.
However, there are many that refute it.
For one, Liberalism eventhough heavily tarnished is still very popular in Canada. Example: Mulroney, under seige, blew the conservative party into oblivion while Martin, under seige, won 100 seats.
Explain that one away while choking on the smell of your own farts.

  10. zip: The words: “and tarnish its name and reputation”, is a quote from TDH Strategies, a Liberal lobbyist/grant writer, buddy of Warren Kinsella, etc.
TDH is oozing nostalgia for da good ole’ days when Ad$cam Chretien wa$ da bo$$. …-

  11. Mulroney was useful to MO and the boys. For a little while. In the process destroyed the PCs. Those votes then mostly went to the Reform. And the rest is history.

  12. DB has weighed in: “For one, Liberalism eventhough heavily tarnished is still very popular in Canada. Example: Mulroney, under seige, blew the conservative party into oblivion while Martin, under seige, won 100 seats. Explain that one away while…”
Four words, one acronym: The MSM.

  13. Unimpressed Albertan makes a pertinent observation: “It should be obvious to everyone by now that, if they’re [the Librano$] that willing to screw each other in the race for the top, one had better question how far they’d be willing to go (again)to stay there.”
My parallel observation is that if the Librano$ are that willing to screw each other, who have been after all colleagues, in the race for the top, just think how much more readily and with no guilt at all they’d be willing to screw the Canadian electorate, whom they don’t know.
The Librano$ are shameless and one can only hope that a sleepwalking and brainswashed public will be shaken awake by this new spate of scandals and gracelessness and not be dragged back into the mire come the next election.
Without the dirty tricks of the MSM, I think that Prime Minister Stephen Harper would stand a better than good chance of getting a majority in the next election. But, already the MSM, spearheaded by the CBC Cheerleaders, are electioneering NOT on behalf of the PMSH and the CPC.
On the other hand, who’s listening to the CBC and a lot of other MSM outlets anymore, anyway? ‘Nothing really to see here, folks. Keep moving.

  14. maz2, liberalism is not the right and property of the LPC. There are many classical liberal’s like myself who know what the word liberalism means and fraud and corruption are not part of that definition.
I (as a real liberal) want a government that encourages people to stand up for themselves. The much touted social safety net is not, and never was, intended to be a hammock, contrary to the malicious intent of the looney Canadian left.
I want (and currently have) a government that actualy stands for something and is willing to fight the hard fight to do the right thing at the right time no matter how hard it gets. Like J.S. Mill said “The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.”
Canadians don’t need to have every aspect of their lives regulated by their government. Society too will change on its own without experimentation or legislation. Don’t try to force me to accept that which I find unacceptable merely because some vocal minority thinks it’s okay. Yes the tyrrany of the majority must be guarded against but this country has swung the pendulum to the opposite extreme and until recently we were living according to the will of the tyrrany of the minority.
The people calling themselves Liberals in this country are little more than weak-kneed comunists who dream of power, and government for governments sake.
Liberal Party of Canada. Not liberal, socialist/communist/oligarchy perhaps but not Liberal.

  15. Zip, 2:06 Amen, you have said it all. Canada has really come off-the-rails in the last 30 years.

  16. Gee. What a dirty rotten shame if, for some contrived ethical reasons only non-Liberals could fathom, Joe were forced to abandon his quest for leadership? My-oh-my! What a loss to the nation that would be.

September 26, 2006 – One more question about Joe Volpe.
How can he justify the legitimacy of his candidacy when his aides are now openly telling reporters that the only reason he is still in the race is to stick it to Michael Ignatieff? I can confidently state that stretching back to his treasonous time in the Jean Chretien caucus, through to his power hungry run as a cabinet minister in the Paul Martin era, to his present car crash of a campaign for the Liberal leadership, Joe Volpe is the most self-serving politician I have ever witnessed in the Canadian political arena. …-

  19. Looks like Halloween has come early for the Liberal leadership campaign.
BOO! and then BOO HOO HOORAY!
If they get rid of Pizza Joe they’ll have to get rid of Iggy too, he was cruising the Graveyards too, that would leave Rae and Dion as the duelling dorks for the top Banana.
Trouble is, nothing they can do about either one, no rule exists to boot them out, so it’s on with the show!

  21. Steve said: “When I use Firefox, I see the “Site Disabled” screen. When I use Internet Explorer, it works fine. I’ve never seen that happen before.”
Neither have I, until this week. This may be related to a net neutrality issue:
Many Comcasters unable to access Google, Gmail, YouTube
Comcast users on the East Coast are getting an early look as to what Net Neutrality looks like when it doesn’t exist.

One of our “internet outage spotters” chronicled a tech support conversation he had in which the Comcast operator told him it was a Firefox issue and he’d have to switch to IE. Apparently Comcast won’t support Firefox as a browser, and if the user is requesting technical assistance it’s only for IE browser questions. Another rep. indicated that the issue was with Google. Though it seems IE browsers can connect to Google, but not personalized pages or GMail, Firefox running on the same Comcast connected machine won’t even connect to those.

Also, Tom points to this fix:
In the interim, if you substitute Google’s IP address for google.com, you can supposedly access your accounts:
http://66.102.7.147/mail (update: this only works in Firefox… apparently, IE will still try to render the domain name)
So far, this issue seems limited to the East Coast. And while no one yet seems to have an answer as to the cause of the outtage, it seems at least slightly suspicious at this point that the major players on the side of Net Neutrality are seemingly the ones being affected (Google, YouTube, etc).

TELEPHONE POLL SCHEME: I HAVE A SUSPECT
    It started yesterday, ….
So the question is, who is responsible for this bias poll? I cannot say. I can say who I have reason to suspect, and that is Bob Rae.
Why have I concluded Bob Rae is behind it?
First, as stated above it would most likely be one of the four campaigns mentioned in the poll; so either Rae, Ignatieff, Brison, or Dion.
Second, Dion, Dryden, and Brison are already under investigation for an alleged mis-use of confidential Liberal Member information for conducting polls (You can read an earlier blog of mine for details); thus it would seem ridiculous for Brison or Dion to be so recently engaged in another poll using membership information. Thus it leaves Rae and Ignatieff to be suspects.
Third, things might be said about Michael Ignatieff’s policies and about his loyalty, but in face of allegations to his campaign committing errors or irregularities Ignatieff immediatly responded not just to counter act with spin, but with detailed analysis of the alleged wrong doing and why it is false; you can view it here. So you may want to ‘Stop Iggy’ but even the most anti-Iggy supporter cannot honestly say they believe Ignatieff’s campaign would act in the grey area.
Fourth, that leaves Bob Rae. Besides the negative argument eliminating everyone else, there is a positive argument for Bob Rae as the suspect behind the poll. It simply is evident in the presence of Scott Brison and Stephane Dion in the poll and the absence of Gerard Kennedy. Having Scott Brison and Stephane Dion in the poll takes away from support for Ignatieff. If given the options of Rae, Brison, Ignatieff, or Dion, this really is a poll of two camps, the more left of the left, Bob Rae, versus the more right-left, made up of Dion, Brison, and Ignatieff. Thus the Liberals who have a less leftist perspective will be divided among three candidates thus all their numbers weakened.
While Bob being the sole candidate of the left would garner all the more left members, and ultimately have engorged and exagerrated numbers. However if Gerard Kennedy was on that poll Bob Rae’s numbers would be divided likewise and would have realistically low numbers.
Thus I arrive at my suspect of Bob Rae. You be the judge of my evidence, but I will find the source of the phone number and I am prepared to investigate this further if no campaign (I am directing this to Bob Rae’s) admits its involvement.
Stay tuned for further updates. …-

  23. Call me Bob, at 1.866.910.7531
I am not a Liberal party member, so I am yet to receive one of the automated “poll” questions that is going around. But, I can tell you a few things about:
    1.) It’s not a poll, it’s a canvass.
2.) It’s being run by Bob Rae’s campaign, which indicates that while he’s polling well he has so little organization on the ground that he is resorting to automated calls to identify his supporters.
3.) If you’d like to talk to the person running this poll, give Jim Zagak a call at 1.866.910.7531. Perhaps ask him who he’s working for. Or, better, ask him why he is pretending to do a poll.
Apparently this race is not only not about ideas, it’s also not about having an organization on the ground. …-
