  1. Earlier this evening (it’s still 2022-01-20 here in Edmonton), TCM showed the movie Patty Hearst. I thought it was dreadful, but that’s not why I’m writing this comment.

The language used by the Symbionese Liberation Army gangsters was over the top (“Death to the fascist insect that preys upon the people!”), but it sounded oddly familiar. We hear similar extremist expressions nowadays, some of which come from Prinz Dummkopf.

It makes me wonder if he thinks he’s playing “urban guerilla vs. fascist oppressor” in his role as prime minister. He certainly doesn’t act like he’s taking his job seriously and that each decision he makes has consequences.

    1. He plays pretend. Being PM is, to him, just a game. He doesn’t care if he ruins countless lives in the process as long as he is having all the fun.

      1. He plays pretend. Being PM is, to him, just a game.

I sometimes imagine him running through his Harrington Lake hideaway dressed as a cowboy, complete with cap gun and hobby horse. Anybody who tells him that he’s too old for that sort of thing gets a pink slip soon afterward.

He also reminds me of one of my first students at Armpit College. Basically, he was a nice kid, but he was terribly lazy, doing only what was necessary in order to pass. The reason was that his father was a local moneybags, having built an industrial business, and the kid knew he was going to take it over.

So, for the 2 years that he was my student, he decided he was going to have as good a time as possible, considering that he treated his studies as a necessary evil. All he wanted was his piece of paper, not that it would have been required to run that firm.

    2. Ha. I was spinning through the channels and found that one too. I was stopped by the voice of (Pulp Fiction’s) Ving Rhames … somewhat noticeable. ”You hear me talkin’, hillbilly boy? I ain’t through with you by a damn sight. I’ma get medieval on your ass.”

It looked rather cheesy, but I noticed the same over-the-top radical leftist dialogue by Cinque I didn’t stick around to see Cinque incinerated in his hideout house. Hopefully they showed that scene. But if a remake was made today … would they even document his incineration? Or would the film be “updated” in the name of BIPOC equity … to show the FBI and local police “standing down” … because too many BIPOC’s are jailed already? Or some woke nonsense.

      1. Hopefully they showed that scene.

The shootout at the house was mentioned in passing in the movie by simply showing it as a TV newscast.

It’s one of those “now I’ve seen it, now I wish I didn’t” type of movies.

  2. But, but, but the climate warriors told us the reefs are all dying…

“It looks like a giant rose garden going as far as the eye can see,” says Julian Barbière at UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission. One of the most remarkable things about this reef is its pristine condition. “It’s a very healthy reef, like a dream come true,”

“This could be one of the largest coral reefs at this depth as far as we know, but the fact is that we haven’t really looked for coral reefs at this depth.” As it stands, only 20 per cent of the seafloor has been mapped, says Barbière.

  3. When You’re Strange video had one of the bandmembers slinging and picking a cello, which was a pleasing sight. I have not seen that before.

    1. Modern date:
“I want to be close to you but we need to stay safe. Let’s visit glory hole. “

  4. “…the first step to be taken after the collapse of the regime in Kiev should be denazification of Ukraine. Without that any civilized development will be impossible,” claims Sergey Aksyonov, head of the Republic of Crimea.

    https://tass.com/world/1383383

    1. Siberian Mongols talking about “civilized development”, LOL it would be like watching monkeys use tools for the first time.

        1. Ok, Konni. Since apparently out of context videos prove something in your world here are real russian mongrels doing what real russian mongrels do.

          Oh the culture the sophistication.
Drinking game: when watching a video from russia drink a glass of Stolichnaya, every time you spot someone in an Adidas track suit.

  5. In the global 3D chess match does anyone see China invading Taiwan if Putin invades the Ukraine? Just in time for the Winter Games. Check.

    1. Perhaps THAT’S the REAL reason ESPN is refusing to send reporters to The ChiCom Winter Olympics?

    1. Adam – At least part of the Canadian Media is catching on “Misery index ranks Canada’s pandemic pain: ‘We’ve suffered a lot of non-COVID damage’
      https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/misery-index-ranks-canada-s-pandemic-pain-we-ve-suffered-a-lot-of-non-covid-damage/ar-AAT0d4s?ocid=msedgntp

and this headline is even better: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/money/topstories/a-new-report-says-canada-is-one-of-the-most-miserable-countries-in-the-world/ar-AASYlOX?ocid=msedgntp

    1. Your that bad a cook?

You probably need better lighting than using a ‘dashboard light’.

  6. We took our dog to the vet yesterday with a cut paw and the sign on their front lawn read “Due to covid restrictions please maintain a safe distance of 2 Great Danes or 7 Chihuahuas”.

  7. It’s interesting the way things are framed these days on the TV. On the one hand the majority of “healthcare” stocks on BNN-Bloomberg are actually “pot-stocks” (by market-cap) while over at Netflix if you try and watch something adult you are greeted with the “Warning – alcohol consumption” message.

      1. I have nothing against pot smoking but I can’t believe how it has become so healthy (cures covid) while drinking has become so unhealthy (you could get sick watching others drink on TV). Unless maybe we’re being reprogrammed.

  8. On global socialism/fascism and financial control and world domination.
This maybe just slightly ahead of our time. “Just slightly” are the operative words.
Heh, as unlikely as this may sound, Putin may have something to do about it and put some brakes on it.
Make of it what you will.

  9. The National Post has published an opinion piece on why the CBC should be broken up and the pieces sold off. The comments under the article are overwhelmingly supportive of the idea.

“Yet the idea of providing the corporation with an additional $400 million over four years — as the Liberals promised in their 2021 election platform — should be anathema to most Canadians. After all, we’re living in an era in which our hospitals are constantly on the verge of collapse, many of our schools don’t have enough staff or safety equipment to stay open and the public treasury is more indebted than ever before.

Given this situation, it’s hard to make the case that what we should really be investing in as a nation is more sitcoms. To truly “modernize” the CBC, we need to figure out exactly what purpose we want it to serve, which can best be accomplished by breaking it up and selling off most of the pieces.”

    https://nationalpost.com/opinion/jesse-kline-the-case-for-breaking-up-the-cbc

    1. Even Andrew Coyne, generally a supporter of the elite and the status quo, is calling for the federal government to move CBC to a subscription model and cut its subsidy from taxpayers. And he means a true subscription model wherein if you don’t want to subscribe to the CBC you don’t have to (unlike the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network which the bureaucrats at the CRTC force you to subscribe to and pay for, if you are a cable or satellite TV subscriber).

“The way to revitalize the CBC is not to spray more and more public funding at it, even as its audience grows smaller and smaller. Rather, the CBC needs to move to a subscription model: first to wean it off of advertising, but in time to replace much of its public subsidy as well.”

It is encouraging to see that all of the “most respected” comments on the article express dislike for the CBC and the hope that it be defunded.

    1. As someone who works in finance this is old news. You’d think they’d come up with something new, but then again originality has never been a lefty strength. I’m just going to assume that the DSM-5 defines psychopath as someone who can actually pass grade school without additional assistance at this point.

  10. Wow. I just witnessed an interview with Emily Eaton, a geographer with the University of Regina. She and 400 other “scientists” want to eliminate fossil fuels, starting with canceling carbon-capture technology.

    https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/article-climate-scientists-urge-ottawa-to-cancel-proposed-carbon-capture-tax/

    Paywalled. Sorry.

In an interview with BNN, Dr. Eaton said (slight paraphrasing) “oil & gas companies no longer have a social license to operate in this country” … “we need a wind-down of fossil fuels and use the “money” (what money?) to move to other more sustainable technologies”.

She wants to eliminate the investment tax credit, which would virtually kill investment in new oil & gas wells in Canada. This would lead to a problem of serious energy-depletion, which she never even addressed. She believes the “market-place” will step in where fossil fuels are removed.

I cannot express how intensely stupid these people are. I only hope they get their wish because people are going to have to freeze to death before someone comes to their senses and realizes that you first introduce new energy that works, then you phase out fossil fuels. You do not ban fossil fuels and just expect the market-place to step in and fill such an enormous gap. And they really don’t get that, which makes them very dangerous.

  11. Canada is vulnerable to a cyber attack. According to ‘xperts’ very vulnerable. I fully expect to see something coming soon from the ruskies. Maybe shut down the electrical grid or the hospitals. Hell are the banks safe?

Our Ukeranian freedom fighter and erstwhile deputy prime minister has deliberately been staying out of sight on this file even though you know she is behind every move Canada makes on this file.

She is well known to the KGB, has a long history of supporting the Uke underground. Make no mistake about it the Russians will make her (us) pay.

  12. Biden is suddenly taking Russia and Ukraine seriously.

The US has ended the Biden Admin ban on Lethal Military Aid to Ukraine.

    https://www.politico.com/news/2022/01/19/us-allies-ukraine-weapons-russia-invasion-527375

    https://www.yahoo.com/now/u-nato-surge-weaponry-ukraine-011522862.html

Obama only sent non-lethal aid to Ukraine. Trump changed that and sent Lethal Weapons Aid, not just blankets and MREs. Joe Biden re-instated the Ban on Lethal Military Aid to Ukraine. Suddenly Joe has reversed himself. They are even telling European Allies to immediately send Anti-Tank weapons to Ukraine.

“Shit Just Got Real” Biden Hit the Panic Button.

  13. R.C.Legion members in Southern Ontario may know this Legion in Hepworth,On.
It’s a small Legion with a big heart, 20 min from owen sound and minutes to sauble beach.

Fortunately no loss of life or injuries, sad part is the history that is gone, it was also a old country western music hall in late 60’s into 70’s and was the home of grey bruce country music hall of fame.
As a 47 yr Legion member I have many fond memories of attending Legion conferences and my wife and I dancing in hall there.

  14. Grocery shopping update.

I just got back from the Safeway near my place here in Edmonton. Cornstarch still not in stock after 4 weeks. The breakfast cereal shelves are half empty. All store brands are gone, as are the plain varieties such as Corn Flakes and Rice Krispies. What’s left are the expensive high-fibre sorts as well as those that are largely sugar.

I’m planning on going to my house in B. C. this weekend. Maybe I can find some cornstarch there, though the closest store would be a Save-On, the local Safeway being on the other side of town.

    1. So Shameless would approve of Pete Buttsex taking several months leave from his job as a Biden cabinet secretary then?

  15. Another Big Lie from the Dear Leader. This is what he had to say about the four Indian nationals who died trying to cross illegally into the U.S. from Manitoba:

“It was an absolutely mind-blowing story. It’s so tragic to see a family die like that, victims of human traffickers … and of people who took advantage of their desire to build a better life,” Trudeau told a news conference.

“This is why we are doing all we can to discourage people from crossing the border in an irregular or illicit manner. We know there are great risks in doing so,” he continued.
