Free speech is under attack in the West, and it’s under attack from abroad. For years radical Islamists have targeted embassies abroad and individuals at home for “insulting” the Prophet Muhammad. And now diplomats and heads of state from Islamist countries are using international oganizations to pressure the West to criminalize blasphemy and are even lobbying for a global censorship regime.
I blame MADD and similar extremist pressure groups for making ambitious politicians create a zero tolerance absolute liability situation for any driver who has had consumed even the least bit of alcohol. There is no defense and absolutely ruinous consequence for the reasonable and responsible use of alcohol by a driver. 1 beer or 100 martinis , it’s all the same to the zero tolerance laws and the consequencs are the same for drunk or non drunk alike.
This is an extreme case, and frankly I would prosecute under the vehicular manslaughter charge, but the sad reality of California’s zero tolerance of alcohol treating people who are not intoxicated beyond the capacity to drive properly (by any reasonable measure) with the worst criminally negligent drunken driver.
I’m not surprised many people flee a hit and run, (most of these are are just fender benders with no victim) rather than set themselves up for the draconian consequences demanded by a law made by special interest extremists.

There were no rallies for the innocents who were blown up by suicide bombers nor were there rallies for the women and girls in afghanistan who were led to a ‘blood bath’ arena to be beheaded… all for the sake of wanting to be part of the human race to attend schools etc.
So why do we expect rallies to happen for us in the west for Free SPEECH.
We allowed terrorism to exceed without much of an ado or a word for those who suffer daily under it.

muzlemism is an Abrahamic religion, and they recognize the Haysoos (jesus) as a profet. Also may mosques were “run” by rabbis (those would be joos) in the early years, because at that time the muzzies were not al that far removed from kristianity and joodayism. What always gets me is that christians absolutely refuse to recognize the roots of their own belief system. I say out law all thes rediculass beliefs.
I agree, the Muslims are riding on the coattails of the radical Left. The Left’s goal is to disrupt the productive Western civilization so that they can seize political power. They use strategies like “political correctness” to help achieve it.
They understand very well how their “speech codes” could turn into religious censorship. As long as there is some kind of censorship, they’re happy, because it puts a foot in the door.
Islam today is probably the faith most incompatible with western society, despite it having a long history of enterprise and that the prophet Mohammad was himself a trader. The Left has signed it on for their depredations despite Islam’s hatred toward the Left’s own pets, e.g. gays, because they don’t care about principles. In the battle to destroy the west, “cognitive dissonance” is a weapon rather than a failing. It allows them to attempt to excuse their hypocrisy, and the rest of us should not let them get away with it.
Thoughtless over-use of the ‘R’ word is endemic among the Left, but it’s really the only weapon they have these days, since they have rejected the mind, which is man’s tool of survival.

Good piece by Michael Totten and I agree with him that we should be fighting this far more aggressively than we currently are. I’d suggests a small yield nuclear device launched via ICBM targeted for a section of desert 100 miles from Mecca for the next Theo Van Gough incident with each subsequent incident resulting in the power of the warhead increasing by 50 KT and distance from Mecca decreasing by 20 miles. This might give those camel humping adherents of an epileptic pedophile the sign that we’re serious about free speech.
There’s part of me that wants to see the blasphemy laws passed to get the world to banish islam as islam blasphemizes Christianity as was pointed out in Totten’s article. Religion is not my strong point and I’d have to dig my bible out of storage to check the assertations of blasphemy.
What I suspect we’re really seeing here is a veiled attack on the internet. Unlike Vietnam which has chosen to defuse criticism of the state by allowing it’s citizens to view online pron and thus have no time for political thought, the backwards camel humping dictatorships cannot tolerate the existence of an unveiled woman in pictorial format. They hate the internet for the same reason that they find teaching women to read intolerable – it lets their people see that their leaders are primitive totalitarians who are trying to prevent them from leaving the 7th century.
In order to enforce a worldwide ban on blasphemy, one would require an internet filtering mechanism that would make the Chicom’s great firewall of China seem like a script-kiddies handiwork. Presumably lots of totalitarians are salivating at the power that this would give them to monitor the online activities of the worlds population and “blasphemy” is just the cover for this attack on the internet itself.
If we had an alpha male in the WH, I suspect there would now be an arrangement between the Americans, Russians and Chicoms to take turns launching the ICBM’s that would get closer and closer to Mecca if bad behavior of TROP continued. Given the problems that the Russians have had in Chechnya with TROP and the similar problems that the Chicoms are having I’m sure they’d be happy to join in. Russian is taking the “keep the peasants distracted with online pron” pathway and if potential dissidents are preoccupied in getting it on with male strippers in bars, this is time they won’t be spending questioning Putin’s increasingly imperial style. The Chicoms have their great firewall and would prefer a free internet for their US spies to be able to send out industrial and military secrets with impunity.
