  1. Regarding oil, the Canadian government has one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake. They want the money and independence from the US that building pipelines brings, while simultaneously catering to the strong anti-carbon wing of the Liberal Party.

    1. Ah yes, the tried and true election strategy that has yielded success for the LPC for generations.
Promise to be all things to all people, say whatever you have to say to get elected and there isn’t a social program too vague to fund on credit to buy those votes.

    2. A joke country makes a joke announcement that will do nothing but try to pacify separatist sentiment. There are untold billions of costs, delays and red tape built in to the agreement such that it will never be built. Venezuela (read The USA) will supply all the bitument Aisa wants sans carbon pricing, carbon capture, clean elkectricity regulations, carbon markets, etc. ad infinitum.

  2. After ten years of groveling and begging Ottawa we finally have received permission to …… apply for permits from half a dozen federal agencies that all hate oil and that can all stop the pipeline approval.
No one else has to beg and grovel to this degree to sell their own products.

    Worth watching:
“Among provinces in the federation, only Alberta must go through the humiliating ritual of grovelling and negotiating with the federal government to develop its industries and export its products. Ontario’s premier doesn’t have to beg for permission to expand automotive manufacturing, nor does Quebec have to snivel if it wants to expand a maple syrup plantation. Alberta, however, is reduced to having to offer concessions to be allowed to do what every other oil-producing jurisdiction on the planet does without hesitation.”

  3. The federal position as follows
We promise to make promises to sign memorandum to negotiate approval for a pipeline as long as those opposing said pipeline agree to let it happen and Alberta pays more money to Ottawa for specious and dubious reasons.

Which if you think you’re suffering from Déjà vu, no you are not.
These are the same conditions PM Leisure Suit Larry made for Alberta to have a pipeline.

  4. No private proponent will come to the table. Only governments are willing to enter into a blank-cheque “investment”.

    1. As sad as it is the only way any private money will be invested in oil against the real political risk in Canada now is with a full backstop and guarantee by the provincial government.
We’re officially a banana republic now for investors.
While the Liberal government is insane and irrational they are not an aberration, they kept getting elected by equally insane liberal voters and that will continue.
Future Liberal governments can stop the pipeline or other project before it’s completed or even shut it down after it’s up and running. Look at Germany’s electrical generating insanity.
In their MSM corrupted minds they believe that destroying western Canada’s oil industry will save the planet from Covid Warming…

    2. Absolutely. No question there.
The corporations capable of building pipelines, of which is a very small handful, are more than aware of the travesty Canada has become and still is, under anti-resource development governments here.
The TM disaster is a clear example of everything wrong with development projects here.
Over-regulated needlessly to the point of being uneconomical. That’s not an accident.
Marx Carnage can write all the MOUs he wants and produce Hollywood style ads, but that doesn’t build pipelines. The obvious things that need to be done to enable new pipelines, are his kryptonite.
Deregulation required, corralling the BC Communists and the anti-everything Indian Grifters need to be put in their place.
Every government is running record sized deficits with no end in sight, while they stifle resource industries that have been the economic backbone of this country for decades.
      It’s no coincidence.

      1. I bet the Feds fund the FN’s lawsuits. And the US “charitable” organisations bribe the chiefs.

        1. You bet they do…..and Carney has handed over the federal government sole constitutional authority in regard to interprovincial and international linear structures which includes pipelines to B.C. and the FN. He then uses them as shields to pretend he doesn’t have the authority.

        2. That is the programme that Harper disbanded and TurdHole immediately reinstated upon the Lieberals’ return.

    3. And government “investment” is the kiss of death for the industry because government control of a pipeline controls the production.

  5. Newsflash:
    All governments lie
    All the time
    While stealing the citizens’ wealth

  6. Oh, and that ‘RUSSIA IS FUNDING THE SEPARATISTS’ bullshit?

Ask Grok: How much foreign money is funding anti-oil groups in Canada?
-$54.1 million specifically traced to “anti-Alberta resource development activity” (e.g., campaigns targeting oil sands/pipelines). The inquiry noted this is likely significantly understated due to data limitations and word-search methodology.”

“Alberta Public Inquiry Key Numbers (2003–2019)Conducted by Commissioner Steve Allan with forensic analysis by Deloitte:$1.28 billion total foreign funding linked to “Canadian-based” environmental initiatives. This includes:$925 million reported by Canadian charities for environmental initiatives.
$352 million in foreign funding for Canadian-based initiatives that stayed in the US.

  7. This is good news. No need to read beyond the reassuring headline, nor take stock of past actions. This is reassuring and it helps me feel confident that the ‘Alberta referendum’ is merely a transient outburst from the soon to be extinct settler colonialists. Any muttering about the Ruling Party history of all talk and no action, or talk with griftable action is, of course, muttering.

    1. Muttering is unethical. There are strict limits on what can be done to dogs in the course of research.

  8. Net Zero, by 2050 is all one needs to know that a pipeline is never going to happen under a Liberal govt.
Proceed with the Independence referendum, as fast as possible.
