  1. Over at a Globe and Mail comments thread, one anonymous poster said something about Mark Carney that I found striking and illuminating. He called Carney “arrogant”. Carney has carefully crafted his public image, with help from the corporate media, as being “competent”, “well-educated”, and so forth. And so far his favourable public image continues.

I think his arrogance comes from his university experience. His undergraduate work was at Harvard University, where he graduated magna cum laude. He did his master and doctorate at Oxford. Both are ultra-prestige schools — I’m not saying “prestigious schools” where prestige is deservedly earned — but prestige in the sense of undeserved high-class reputation. At Oxford students study in cloisterd houses under a master, where snobbish ways are taught and mastered. One learns high-class living, sort of the difficulties JD Vance had at Yale when confronted with the complex tableware at a posh dinner.

But Mr. Carney ladder-climbed at the Bank of Canada, using his prestigious cuniversity redentials. He has published virtually nothing in academic journals, where research must go through a blind, peer-reviewed refereed process. His ladder-climbing took place among his friends and colleagues. And oh boy, he has a doctorate in economics from Oxford! I concede that Carney is intelligent and has worked hard. But as a retired economics professor I have come across a number of snobbish, arrogant people in my field whose well-crafted image dominated actual competence.

In the economics profession arrogance abounds. But good economists are humble in that they realize the shortcomings of their field. Humble people understand their flaws. I have this feeling that Carney thinks he’s better and smarter than everybody else. This is his weak point.

Then there is also his huge financial wealth. Sorry for this over-long post.

    1. I quite enjoyed your post, sir.
If I might pose a question, What do you make of the fact that Powell’s Federal Reserve employs 24,000 people? I confess to being mystified at what they do over there, but it certainly wouldn’t seem to need a staff like that to generate the errors we observed during Biden’s tenure. Cheers.

    2. “I concede that Carney is intelligent and has worked hard.”

You are confusing education with intelligence. Carnage is educated. He is not intelligent except for his ability to fake his way through.

Many PhD’s are too stupid to survive on their own. Yes, they may be geniuses in their field but are still dumber than a sack of hammers in basic life skills.

When I was in university we’d occasionally go have a beer with some profs. A few were pretty decent to talk w/ over a cold one. Others couldn’t cobble together a coherent conversation for love or money, yet were considered geniuses in their field.

At an officers’ dining out at a private club a green 2LT asked if he could get some salt and pepper. The answer from the waiter was “no.” I knew better. I had read the book and had no desire to insult the chef.

“The Commons yesterday by a 177 to 163 vote passed a cabinet bill granting citizenship to the grandchildren of Canadians abroad. It followed debate that saw MPs clash over Canadian identity: “Without national identity, integration is impossible and the collapse of our country is inevitable.” — Blacklock’s Reporter

  3. Fed Digital ID Gets Go-Ahead

“Cabinet is proceeding with a digital identification system for claimants of federal benefits including Employment Insurance and Old Age Security, says a budget note. The Department of Employment has repeatedly promised it will not be mandatory: ‘Cohorts of society may already be somewhat distrustful of public institutions.’ ”

  4. Breaking on BLloomberg news. Nancy Pelosi announced she is not seeking another House term. But she will hang around for a while.

    1. The brain-dead of the gated communities of SanFranshitshow will simply elect another Demoncr@p who is 10 times more evil.

[The Liberal] Cabinet will again raise the national debt ceiling for the third time in four years. 6. Back then the RCAF in Europe was king of the hill. The Canadair Sabre had the more powerful Orenda engine which gave it a performance advantage over anything flown by NATO in Europe We were also losing several fighters a week due to crashes.

    1. I was going to comment on this, but I’m starting to think it’s a bad time to be sticking my neck out…

  7. ‘Liberal MP Jaime Battiste fined $600 for breaching elections financing law”
“An elections watchdog fined Nova Scotia Liberal MP Jaime Battiste and his financial agent $600 each for a series of elections law violations — including a donation of funds to Battiste’s own campaign that went almost $1,500 over the limit. All is forgiven and he can go back to being parliamentary secretary https://nationalnewswatch.com/2025/11/06/liberal-mp-fined-600-for-breaching-elections-financing-law
A fine? Now shall we ask Del Mastro what would happen if a conservative did something similar. “Del Mastro was convicted in 2014 and sentenced to a month in jail, four months’ house arrest, and 18 months’ probation. He was also banned from holding any public office while serving his conditional sentence, and from running federally for a period of five years.”
At least Elections Liberal is consistent!

  8. Matt Jeneroux MP Edmonton Riverbend, Conservative…
resigns from Parliament, “family reasons” and I have no insider info to explain this, his X/Twitter was closed to others yesterday, no indication of crossing sides though the effect is 1/2 as much …

1 more resignation or defection from the Conservatives and it’s 3 more years of the tyranny for the rest of Canada.

Keean Bexte has a thread posting talking about this, he’s not pleased, and in his words the timing is suspicious, as well as Matt mentioning that he wanted to play a role in gov’t, which he can’t do if he’s in opposition.
Others saying, he may still turn up to vote…
