A Very Serious Discussion About Canada and its Future

Candace Malcolm interviews Diane Francis about what might happen with Canada in the future. It’s very interesting. Ms. Francis, who has done a ton of research on the topic, shares many facts. One of them, which I was not aware of, is that Canada has British & French roots, whereas America has predominately German roots.

A simple litmus test that I, as a Canadian, like is a simple question to every Canadian I meet: “Tell me what it means to be a Canadian, but don’t mention America, American, or Trump in your answer.” Most people I’ve spoken to cannot provide a reasonable answer.

Update: From 10 years ago, here is Diane Francis talking about her book, on which the above interview was based.

  1. “America has predominantly German roots”

    No it doesn’t

Predominantly means “mainly, for the most part”

There are more people of British ancestry in the US than German ancestry

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_ethnicity_in_the_United_States
See section Ancestry and the table under 2022 American Community Survey.

    German Ancestry = 44.9 million

    English Ancestry = 46.6 million
American Ancestry ( mostly old stock white Americans of British ancestry) = 19.4
So we have 66 million Americans of British ancestry.

If we add Irish Ancestry = 38.6 million; we get 104 million Americans of British/Irish ancestry.

46.6 million Americans have black ancestry.

Now there’s probably some double counting going on; for example, people with English and Irish parentage, but Americans are not predominantly of German ancestry.

    1. Yeah, completely bs.

Kirk wrote The Roots of the American Order, Germany had nothing to do with it.

  2. When Canadians are asked what it means to be Canadian, I often hear about free health care. That was only passed in the 1960s, so that would mean that anyone born before that is not genuinely Canadian. If you have to define your country through a government program, then the sauce is weak indeed.

    1. True, but I think health care in Canada has gotten so bad that they have backed off using it as a point of pride. 15,000 Canadians died in one year waiting for health services (headline in a recent Epoch Times.).

    2. Defining being Canadian through a government program is perfectly Canadian, mommy government is everything. Ordinary Canadians are a life support system for the leviathan, nothing more, and they accept their position willingly.

  3. Tell me what it means to be a Canadian…

To be f’ed over by the Laurentian elite my entire life.

    That is all.

  4. To be Canadian is to mistake the illusion of freedom and free markets for real freedom and free markets, and to arrogantly sneer at those who get bulldozed by the regime as some kind of evil-doers or idiots.
This applies across the political spectrum.
In short, it means to be a brainwashed dolt, a tool of the establishment.

  5. There would 2 versions.

    Pre and hopefully post Trudeau.

The first rotted the foundation and the second burnt it to the ground.

Pre Trudeau Canada was a wonderful country to grow up in, with an unlimited promising future.

Since Trudeau One decided that Canada was too successful (read White) and instituted the Liberal Hierarchy of gender, color, religion, politics, sex etc, the trend has been swift, brutal and true…………down, down, down.

    The Liberals have killed Canada.

East hates Central who hates West who hates East.

    Of course, everyone hates Quebec.

If you are at all sentient you know the Liberals killed their Fake Constitution, the Supreme Court, Free Speech, the Legal System, the Media and More, and destroyed the Economy, Budget, Debt,Deficits, Immigration, Housing, Inflation etc to say nothing of patriotism and belief in Country and Government.

Add in a population sick and tired of Woke, Broke, Joke Governments = Dead Canada.

Thank you Trudeau/Liberal voters!! (mostly wimmens and French get the credit)

    1. But even if you’re generally right, hurting the feelings of said Liberal supporters won’t motivate them to change their voting patterns. For many of them, feelings trump reflective thought; it’s easier.

  6. “Tell me what it means to be a Canadian, but don’t mention America, American, or Trump in your answer.”

Taxes, unemployment, and lots of standing in line waiting for government clerks anytime you want to do anything.

  7. Agreed, Pierre through Justin, Liberals love only their party, despising those who see the truth. It’s a base mental deficiency, groomed through generations of sloth. The good news is a large trend of Canadians who despise those who won’t stand up against their own corrupt governance. The backlash has only just begun, but so late that it must now be a painful extraction. Americans have always prided themselves on independence from mommy and dad, socialists hate that. Canadians who strive for an independence-from-government interference in their daily lives have a growing co-hort.

  8. Many commenters here will remember this exact question was a marketing campaign by the odious Joseph Jacques Jean Chretien’s liberal party, to disrupt and begin dissolving the existing self-identity which all healthy Canadians had at that time. It was plain anti-Americanism from China, which red frogs found titillating. Chretien secured three consecutive majority governments and cemented the idea that Canadian identity is anti-American and nothing else. Pathetic and embarrassing to see how far we’ve fallen, and the potential of this nation which has been pissed away on divisive politics from one side of the aisle. French Canadians, like their European comrades despise anglo-anything in spite of themselves. The rest of Canadians have acted entirely magnanimously in response, but we’re tired of their blatant communist stripe.

    1. I know a fellow who had his face tattoo’d with an image of the Calgary Stampeders kicking a field goal. His future will be a Stamp booting on a human face – forever…

  9. One of the most brilliant cartoons was posted on this site, perhaps ten years ago. It had a cow standing over a map of Canada, grazing in the west, getting milked in Ontario and Quebec, and crapping on the east.

    Relevant then, relevant now.

It would be great if someone could find that again.

    1. It was entitled, “The Milch Cow” and was printed in the Grain Growers Guide on Dec 15, 1915, a mere 10 years after AB/SK became provinces. Over a hunnert years ago we already knew we were getting screwed over by the Laurentian Elite. What’s changed?

      Nuttin’. It’s merely gotten worse.

  10. The Canadian Flag is all we need to no about Canada. It is the land where the maple tree grows. That little strip of land along the St Laurence. Everything else is the realms to ruled by and for that little strip of land along the St Laurence. Funny story: A few years ago I was at the supply depot at CFB Cold Lake. Sitting on the floor was a large crate marked F18 engine Property of the US Navy. Should the US decide to send the troops in to Canada on Good Friday, Canada would be American property by Easter Sunday.

  11. A failed state.
The productive citizen feels like Sisyphus and the boulder grows everyday larger.
Imprisoned by rules and regulation, most unknown until some pompous minion struts in to inform you of your “crimes”.
6 decades of destruction by government has taught the tax payer to lie and deny.
    And reinforced the knowledge..
Everything Government touches turns to crap.
    The West will separate.
Because Confederated Can Ahh Duh is beyond saving.
That financial reality is undeniable and eventually will dominate ..
Being cold and starving while surrounded by plenty, is our near future, should we continue to follow the retards.

    The cycles of human affairs.
The soft men have brought production of life necessities to foolish levels, hard times are here.
Even the NDP/Liberals,the vandals who broke us,are campaigning on “Fiscal responsibility”..citing the “High Cost of living”.
That would be ironic if they were serious.
Instead to simply fine tuning their lying to match the opinion polls.

We must reward those who would “help us”..
Perhaps relocating them to Coats or Mansel Island in the northern reaches of Hudson Bay.
Perhaps such a reward might teach the next lot to keep their hands in their own pockets?

  12. Diane Francis is the last person I would talk to about, well, anything. She admires China’s one-child policy last I heard and is generally insane. She is the poster child of smiling crazy lady who loves fascism.

Also, stop talking about ‘roots’. It doesn’t really matter where we can from, it matters where we’re going.

    1. And yet, Diane Francis outstrips your IQ by at least 2SD, has been published since forever and is generally a better human being than you can ever aspire to be, f*cknuts. So why don’t you stuff your own c*ck down your throat and choke on it?

  13. Americans and Canadians believe the same thing on abortion, gun control, and healthcare? What data is she looking at?

    1. That is an overly broad statement, but true in it’s own way. Rural Canadians believe for the most part, what rural Americans believe about those issues, and the urbanites from both countries tend to agree as well. Our country is more dominated by urban than theirs is, so we get thinking all Canadians have urban values, or lack therof, I don’t think it is true.

  14. Are there two countries anywhere more alike than Canada/USA?

US culture is our culture. Take away Hollywood, American music, US sports and the hot dog and what have you got Canada? Poutine, and, well quebekkie.

    1. You guys have contributed a huge amount to all of that as well. It seems that anyone from Canada who wants to make a splash in any of those fields heads South. I could name many Canadian’s who did great work in those fields. Also, you guys have produced, or co-produced with us, some good television.

  15. Being and Nothingness comes to mind with respect to canada’s future… just the title… thoughtless…

  16. I’m pretty sure that most of our German influence came after the revolution and that most of it is towards the western part of the US than the Eastern part.

  17. I have regarded Dieane Francis as a complete idiot for some decades. Not a bad person, indeed for an idiot she’s done a fair bit of good, but while I try not to be hostile I have no interest.

It is of course impossible to conceive of Canada except as distinct from the US. There could be no such thing.
