Elon Musk recently reposted this interview. It reminded me of countless conversations I’ve had with countless Canadians about what constitutes “hate speech” and who decides it. My thoughts on this crystalized back in 2008, when Mark Steyn started being dragged through 3 separate “Human Rights” commissions in Canada. It quickly became apparent that these were all farces, run by people with Far Left political bents. Facts and real justice did not matter a whit to these clowns. Yet countless Canadians today, almost 17 years later, still think our governments and their apparatchiks and the legacy media are fair & balanced. Is there a better term than “insanely ignorant and naive” to describe such folks?

Is there a better term than “insanely ignorant and naive” to describe such folks?
Not without becoming exponentially less polite.
I’m down with that; and capable.
People who have been wrong for a long time really do not like having that shown to them, politely or otherwise. That helps explain why so many apparently refuse to learn.
Voting patterns, anyone?
CC
Religion, anyone.
Jew hatred stems from 1500 years of demonizing Jews by the RCC.
Butt , just like lefties, the pounders will not admit that.
Is there a better than “insanely ignorant and naive” to describe such folks? Maybe Canadian? of course that only captures part of what it is to be Canadian. You need to incorporate infantilized coward in to really capture what it means to be Canadian.
And every HRC that existed back in 2008 when Steyn was being persecuted is still intact – despite federal and provincial “Conservative” governments that had ample opportunity to trash them but lacked the courage and commitment to liberty to do so.
you must be related to Beth MacMaster
Is there a better term?
Sure there is.
Canadians.
The most heroic Not Sees in human history.
We are testament to the glories of a public education system administered by a kleptocracy.
So “well educated” that most of us cannot fill in our own tax forms.
Ya beat me to it:
“Is there a better term?
Sure there is.
Canadians.”
So true
How about Canuckleheads?
i was at a party the other day and there were women that said they were afraid that with their liberal views that they might get arrested because of Trump. In Calgary ? they also claim that he is going to declare himself dictator. (even with their constitution) TDS much
So which way are they going to vote, when they can?
Rhetorical question.
the liberal disease has spread country wide
Caltoo, I see that too: people who come up with the most outlandish scenarios. The “fine” ladies on The View, for example, are sure that Trump is going to round them up any day now. I’ve had similar discussions with trans folks.
As another example, so many U.S. governors are working to declare themselves sanctuary states. But if you look at the prioritization from the new Border Czar, Tom Homan, you will find:
(1) Secure the border
(2) Deport those who have been ordered to be deported but have not complied.
(3) Find the estimated 300,000 children somehow missing from government records.
So, deporting the run-of-the-mill illegal alien is not in the Top 3. TDS indeed
Ignorance is its own reward.
roaddog, in canada I usually use the word stupid. Of course the reward for stupid is not quite as good as the one for ignorance.
The truth hurts them, so they don’t and won’t listen to it.
Dearly deluded and yep, I’m related to them.
Political depth of finger bowls as they are all consumers of LSM in big gulps.
It goes without saying that I appreciate all of you (minus the trolls) and Kate! There are some fellow Canadians who “get it” and have likely always “got it”.
There was a moment when I had hope, but when the bank accounts were frozen, the heads kicked in and the corrupt crowns, judges and cops got busy sweeping it under a rug, it didn’t look good. Since then, no one has uttered a peep as our freedoms have been steadily eroded.
I put it down to the fear of Justin’s Heavy Horse, breaking the heads and bodies of the disabled.

Steyn’s 2008 BCHRTribunal hearing was preceded a decade earlier, (1998-99) by two consecutive tribunal hearings of ‘Hate speech’ complaints against columnist Doug Collins.
The first complaint was about a specific opinion piece in a neighbourhood advertising circular, and was dismissed after being heard..
he second complaint was heard immediately thereafter, against the ‘pattern’ of his published opinions, including the column complained about during the first hearing.
The second complaint was upheld, and penalties proscribed.
80 y.o. Collins died before an appeal to a real court could be organized.
Steyn and Ezra Levant were instrumental in ending CHRA Sec 13.1, but his BC hearing was under the same BCHRA Sec 7.1 that had targeted and destroyed Collins.

I like purposefully intellectually crippled by institutional Marxism and nihilism in order to produce compliant Eloi and partisan drones in the destruction of western civilization necessary to facilitate the next iteration of collectivist dystopia.
In a parliamentary system of government, parliament is supreme and will define ‘hate speech’ according to its whims.
Canadian Bill of Rights is an act of parliament from 1960.
Constitution Act, 1982 is an act of parliament from 1982.
Mike: The Charter of Rights and Freedoms essentially revoked the legal doctrine of parliamentary supremacy and replaced it with rule by unelected judges, who deeply believe that the Canadian Constitution is a living tree to be interpreted only by wise and learned judges as they see fit and not by mere elected parliamentarians.
Parliament cannot pass an act that removes parliamentary supremacy, that is what the concept of parliamentary supremacy means. “You can’t change a law because I made a law that says you can’t change the law”, just doesn’t work.
Apparently just ignoring the law is adequate in canada.
Who appoints the people to these tribunals? If it’s the gov then why doesn’t Smith appoint a far right team to go after any of these commies spouting off about evil white people etc? Time to go on offensive when we have the ball.
This doesn’t seem like a hard thing to do. Start playing by the rules that they do.
Liberal racist voters knew exactly what they were getting when they voted for the NDP/Liberal racist Party.
Today’s canada is the canada they want, like their communist predecessors they do not care who gets hurt.
Touchy-feely left wingers firmly believe that people who don’t think exactly the way they think are also filled with as much hate as they are, that’s how they get around to calling others the worst names imaginable because they are animated by their own hatreds.
Hate speech laws and kangaroo courts are just a small expression of their power, now that Liberal racists purchased all the courts and judges over the past decade, citizens who get out of line in the future will wish they could go back to the falsely named human rights tribunals. “Canada” is in the dustbin of history.
I’ve always found Canadians to be affable and friendly. I’ve never experienced so much as a whiff of Hate. Hence … it must be of paramount importance for Canadians to flee as far as possible from hate. Hell … they’ll even surrender all their freedoms … esp. free speech … just to avoid any semblance of hate. Even the slightest whiff of personal discomfort MUST be prosecuted.
Yes. Insane. In your frantic scramble to eliminate hate … you’ve become a nation of haters.
Canadians don’t hate Yanks and may be affable and friendly to them, but they sneer at them among friends and family because Canadians are ever so morally “superior”.
By the way, the country I’ve visited the most is the US, including many of its big cities, and always enjoyed the trips and never experienced an inkling of trouble.
I found the Yanks to be universally friendly and affable and outgoing in a good way.
Human Rights Commissions
“Regardless of the verdict, the process is the punishment which is the hallmark of unjust justice systems around the world.”
Mark Steyn
“The moment somebody says, ‘I believe in free speech, but…,’ I stop listening.”
Salmon Rushdie
Yes, that three letter word usually means you are not really in favor of free anything.
I am sure that the boys who attacked Juno Beach in 1944 would be impressed by what we have become today.
They died in vain, fathers, grandfathers and brothers
In 2012 Section 13 was embarrassed into extinction, until this year when Justin Pierre James Trudeau II resurrected it with Bill C-63, his Online Harms Bill which actually amends Criminal Law to include Life in Prison for hurt feelings. It’s all rather Soviet and attracts like-minded monsters. One of Kathy Shaidle’s favourite punching bags, “come and get me, faggots” was Richard Warman who filed 99% of all Section 13 complaints made to the Kangaroo Kommission, where he was coincidentally the prosecutor, who preferred entrapment, anonymous complainants, and where truth has no standing.
“Why is that ram wearing pants?”
“I don’t know.”
“This is rampant ignorance!”
