Costly precedents

I have little doubt that something similar to this scheme is coming to Canada. A friend currently travelling in Germany told me that these edicts, legislated in 2009, are being enforced and they have become an expensive reality for German homeowners. Renewables, by the way, include wood pellets. Presumably the central planners have a disdain for firewood.

Homeowners will have to use renewable energy sources to meet 14% of a household’s total energy consumption for heating and domestic hot water.

Existing houses will also have to be remodeled to incorporate renewable-energy-based heating systems from 2010 on. For old houses, 10% of the heating and domestic hot water energy needs will have to be provided by renewables.

  1. All the bs politics aside, if the reason for it was for national security then it’s a good plan. But that’s not the justification they will provide.

    1. What would be good for national security is if we had complete energy self sufficiency. And we do…..well, except for stupid politicians.

    2. If the reason was for national security, Germany would be building more nuclear plants instead of shutting them down and wouldn’t bother with this. It’s a stupid plan no matter the reason.

      1. I believe they are being shut down because of fear of Tsunamis striking Germany. Really.

  2. If Canadians keep electing liberals the same will happen here in a couple years.

You will have to buy green energy devices or pay penalties with your hard earned dollars. Either way you ll pay trough the nose for useless things that will not affect the planet’s climate, not even by one tousandth of a percentage point.

All because of a fake climate crisis that started with a fake research that produced a fake hockey stick figure, that indicated the end of the world was tomorrow.

Global warming is no more real than the witches of Salem.

Our leaders are as insane as those who burned women and cats, because of 100% imagined sorcery.

The planet is not having a fever and even if it was, it would take many thousands of years to melt the ice north or south pole.

    It is not an emergency

    1. Meanwhile … here in NCA … the local weathermen HOWL about global warming because we will be having triple digit heat by this weekend. In June. In CA. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.

David Byrne got it exactly right! …

  3. So folks, how many think my words about ki****g one’s enemies is a bad thing? They will k*** you. Only the terminally stupid think otherwise.

  4. Paul St. Pierre (former Liberal MP from BC) appears to have been right when he said that eventually everything will be either compulsory or forbidden.

  5. It’s curious how they’d enforce that. Do they already have access to everybody’s utilities bills? What about pellets that one buys from the store? Is this something they have to submit with their taxes to show that they spent xdollars on pellets and xdollars on gas?
What if they just want to pay 15% more for “renewable” energy on their bills?

    1. What if they just want to pay 15% more for “renewable” energy on their bills? That is just what is anticipated, you just pay more to them – the government and their crony scammers.

  6. In case anyone has not yet put two and two together, I would suggest a review of the story about the nurse in Spain who was selling Covid passes. Which is to say there is a growing black market / underground economy in evading these regulations.

The elites should have eliminated cash from the economy before they did this. Much as the guns should have been rounded up before the trucker uprising. These are big mistakes they have made. Losing control of twit is another.

  7. Wha wha whaaaaaaat!!!??? A $750,000.00 fine for noncompliance!? AYFKM!!?? 3/4 of a $Million in fines, if I don’t install an 1820’s boiler in my German Eco-houzz!?? Join the 19th century or go bankrupt!? WTF!? Who is ceding this kind of INSANE POWER to petty FASCISTS in government?

They REALLY ARE trying to … “tear it all down ma’aaaan” … “come on ma’aaan” …

    1. Visited someone in Munich in 1990. Said person lived in an apartment in the city that used old boilers to heat the water in the kitchen and bathroom. Old boilers as in a fire had to be built and then wait for the water to be heated up. So Germany might not be all far off already.

  8. My neighbors are gonna love it when I start burning 100% renewable and organic dung.

  9. Well it will be interesting to see how many additional house fires occur in Germany and how the insurance industry reacts to the mandate.

I don’t expect that to occur in Canada … not that the morons running the country might like to mandate it … but within the next year the Liberal-NDP coalition will be faced with a flood of problems all related to the new Liberal-NDP green deal , and they won’t want yet another fiasco on top of the ones they have already created.

It just might wake up a lot of snoozing voters.

      Hahahahahahahahahahahaha! This is Canada!

      1. exactly BA.
however, allow me to point out there are differences between sleep and comatose . . . . .

  10. BC may be screwy in *so* many ways, but we can handle a mandate of that nature easily. We have more than enough Hydro power to meet our needs.

So of course, someone will decide to reclassify Hydro as “environmentally unfriendly” or some such…

  11. I was talking to a friend of mine who lives in Germany. He is a retired doctor. He said he was a bit tired. He had been out chopping wood all day to heat his house and cook his food. It seems there simply was no natural gas available thanks in part to the war in Ukraine.

  12. So Germans are going to be burning “Renewable Wood Pellets”? Really? Imported from where?

My bet is they are importing them across the freaking ocean from the United States. I think Georgia was a big producer. They cut down the trees, transport them to the mills, process and dry the pellets, ship these very light and bulky pellets to a port and across the ocean, unload them and ship them to your town. Just so the German Government can say they are using “renewable energy.” Empty Virtue Signaling, not effective actions.

Remember yesterday’s story on the German leaders refusing to actually ship heavy weapons to Ukraine?

You know what is going to happen next winter. When their citizens are literally freezing in the dark, the Good Germans will throw Ukraine to the wolves for some of that sweet, sweet Russian Gas delivered by their own private direct from Russia Nordstream Pipeline.

    1. Interesting how the newly completed north stream 11 gas pipe line from Russia to northern Germany was never started up this past winter,
