CUSMA warning sign for Canada.
According to @globalnews, a third round of detailed 🇲🇽–🇺🇸 negotiations is scheduled for next week, followed by two more meetings in August.
U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra confirmed that none are scheduled with 🇨🇦.
Mexico is at the table. Canada is still waiting for an invitation. That should concern every Canadian.
We are so screwed.

As it turns out, President Trump is channeling Louis Riel and it is glorious!
The President knows that Canada is busy at the moment with the fire fighting up north…
If only the fires could be framed as gay, then they’d receive the attention they so richly deserve.
If this is your government’s ‘busy’, I’d hate to see what their ‘not busy’ would look like.
“If this is your government’s ‘busy’, I’d hate to see what their ‘not busy’ would look like.”
I have a relative in the trade, as they say, and I assure you that all the fire guys are going full-bore, no days off, and have been since April.
And the reason for all this activity is that we used to have a forestry industry here in Canuckistan. Paper, lumber, chip board, all that stuff. And they used to thin out all the forests and plant new trees, so that these wildfires wouldn’t happen. The area where the fires are is bigger than Texas, right?
But since the #Lieberals have been running the show (and even before that, honestly) the industry isn’t making money from trimming forests and making paper out of it. They’re -regulated,- you see.
So, 10 to 15 years of trees killed by beetles and left standing (no, you may -not- remove those dead trees, you Nazi!!!) 10 to 15 years of undergrowth sprung up, and a zap of dry lightning will start a fire you simply can’t put out. You drop a 747 full of water on it, and the water is steam before it hits the ground.
Texas. But with trees, on fire.
Exactly. All this “end of days” shit that was supposed to preserve forests and endangered species has resulted in a situation where we now burn far more timber than we formerly harvested.
no f’n kiiding. l saw and had it explained to me by my forester brother BC in 2007.
we’re out in a clear cut, l ask why the underbrush is all in piles.
esthetics. the socialists are aghast when there is a field full of stumps and shrubs and leaves and undergrowth so they scrape it into piles.
but what about the forests critters that depend on the underbrush and saplings that depend on shade whist they sprout?
well, they dont vote.
ld never seen such devastation over such a huge area. grossly obscene mismanagement by crassly ignorant socialists who know N-O-T-H-I-N-G of forestry management other than yogi bear cartoons.
These are the same type of idiots that will go on foot and approach a bear or moose or bison for a “nice pic”.
Usually, hilarity ensues.
These idiots screwing up the forests are far more dangerous. The former just kill themselves but these idiots pollute the country and our neighbor.

Harrison Faulkner at Juno News:
With stats that shocked me: Very roughly 1/2 the number of fires but double the damage.
Why are wildfires decreasing in Canada while the damage from wildfires increases at a dangerous pace?
Canada’s wildfire peak was in 1989 when over 12 thousand wildfires were recorded by the federal government and burned 7.5 million hectares. In 2023, just under seven thousand wildfires burned a staggering 17 million hectares of land. So what is the cause of this statistical anomaly?
https://www.junonews.com/p/nobody-is-talking-about-this-fact?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=3610415&post_id=207347782&utm_campaign=email-post-title&isFreemail=false&r=p6r51&triedRedirect=true&utm_medium=email
Juno News links to the “answer”: https://cwfis.cfs.nrcan.gc.ca/en/fire-history
… “Lightning causes about 46% of all fires but accounts for about 83% of the annual area burned… annual number of fires has been decreasing in Canada whereas area burned has been increasing… due to a shift towards more large fires and fewer small fires… the number of large fires have increased since 1959”
In an honest society, gut instinct would suggest number, size, and areas burned, of lightning caused fires
in North & South America has not changed for thousands of years
but the ability to detect has greatly improved since 1959.
But because Ottawa encourages climate zealots (all with marxist bona fides),
to break & burn western civilization, the “plausible” assumption is
that the Liberal Party of Canada must shoulder the blame.
BTW:
… “annual number of fires has been decreasing in Canada”
argues against global warming.
I would start with a simple question. Are these old growth forests, or were they replanted by morons (i.e., single species and too close together). Because if you don’t ask that simple question, all potential answers are wrong.
“Are these old growth forests, or were they replanted by morons?”
Yes.
That’s the short answer. The fires are so bad that even the old growth is burning, with is quite a thing. But there isn’t much old-growth forest left, thanks to reforestation and clear cutting in the old days. Even Algonquin Park is reforestation, right? (Yes it is, Greenies, go look it up. Logged out in the 1800s, still being logged today, and that’s why it didn’t all burn down. You idiots.)
It’s nice to know that Canada has SO MANY trees … they won’t miss any of em. As they say, you’ve got trees to burn. Aren’t trees a valuable, important economic resource of Canada? Willfully allowing your forests to burn to the tune of millions of hectares would be akin to salting the earth of all your farmed Prairie lands … or … IDK … land locking your oil sands.
It’s almost as if the communists posing as ‘climate warriors’ are deliberately seizing the means of production … and burning it to the ground.
Incompetence this persistent is calculated. The affects are desired. The Liberals want the forest to burn because it gives them a crisis. The crisis is what they want. Canada is to be America’s Lebanon.
“Never attribute to incompetence what can be explained by malice.”
The fires are just one segment; could one apply this to these new internet safety (snort!) rules as well? The list could be expanded, probably.
If Canada is to become America’s Lebanon (interesting concept; never thought of it that way; worth some time considering), do you think we have a choice in how to deal with you, ultimately? Then the question becomes: do we allow this to go on, tit for tat style, for decades, or would we be forced to nip it in the bud? At the core of this, do the Canadians want to become like Lebanon as it is — doesn’t sound like a very good outcome for you; how could you change course and avoid it?
well. if we are to be a Lebanon, may this firecracker happen on parliament hill:

Have no fear. Thug Ford is on the job.
If he runs next election, I stay home. I’ve told the MorOntario cons the same

Trump is a fool to worry about the US trade deficit with Canada. There’s one main reason for the deficit: bitumen oil. Without that, Canada would run a trade deficit with the US.
But what does the US do with that oil? It refines and sells it on the world market, collecting the mark up. In short, that deficit makes the US money, and reduces their trade deficit with the rest of the world.
Who says he’s very worried about that trade deficit?
Off topic, and by the way: my country has signaled that they don’t wish to extend the USMCA; what happens if it isn’t extended for another 16 years? What affects would that have?
Who says Trump is worried about trade deficits? Trump does.
https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/04/regulating-imports-with-a-reciprocal-tariff-to-rectify-trade-practices-that-contribute-to-large-and-persistent-annual-united-states-goods-trade-deficits/
His recent USMCA negotiations seem centred on trade deficits.
https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/us-canada-mexico-review-trade-pact-likely-putting-it-into-limbo-trump-demands-2026-07-01/
Right, exactly. Take away the oil which they upsell and make a ton of money off anyway, and we’re at a massive trade deficit with the USA. While we drive our pickup built in the USA, to Home Depot to buy our Milwaukee tools, maybe grab something at Wendy’s and then go buy some US grown and made groceries at the Wal-Mart or Costco. With our ever decreasing in value CDN dollar. We’ve got some problems…
Take away the oil exports and we have a small trade deficit with the US — about C$3 billion a month, which isn’t much.
Unknown Jane asked “what happens if it isn’t extended for another 16 years? What affects would that have?”
You notice how hard the mammal twists to avoid answering that question? Almost as if he had an agenda or something.
The answer is “bankruptcy” by the way. The entire country will be reduced to the level that Greece operates on. Ruination. And it will be because of the deliberate actions of the -Canadian- government, not an accident, or mismanagement, or #TheDonald.
But hey, elbows up, right?
TP:
“Twists”. Hilarious. Actually, all I did was answer his first question. The answer to the second is easily found on the internet.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/what-next-cusma-usmca-us-canada-mexico-trump-tariffs-9.7255435
The answer is “not much for now.” Unless Trump actively terminates the entire treaty, life goes on until a new president is in office.
Marmot, have an agenda? He can hardly handle a verandah.
Quoth the mammal: “Not much for now.”
Not now, Mr. “I refuse to understand the question” mammal.
16 years, sir. By your own numbers, $3 billion, times twelve is $36 Billion the first year, times sixteen years. $576 billion. A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon you’re talking about real money.
What industry, by the way, brings $36 billion a year of income to Canada? According to AI, “The Canadian forestry sector contributed approximately $27 billion to Canada’s nominal gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023.”
You are nonchalantly talking about kissing off $36 billion, which would be like halting the forestry industry plus another $9 billion bucks, roughly the income of Ford Motor Company.
But that’s just the round numbers. Bad enough, I’m thinking. But in 16 years? The compounding loss would be… Venezuela level bad. Mexico bad. Rhodesia bad.
TP: Thank you for that bizarre rant.
But I was correct. If all sides do not agree to extend the treaty for 16 years, then the treaty goes into yearly review for ten years, or until they agree to extend the treaty for 16 years. It’s reasonable to expect that things will be stale mated until Trump is out of office. After that, who knows? There’s an excellent chance that the new president will not share Trump’s views on international trade.
And so far as lumber is concerned, those tariffs were invoked using the US Tariff Act of 1930, and have nothing to do with USMCA, so I have no idea WTF you’re talking about.
“Who says Trump is worried about trade deficits? Trump does.”
But you don’t believe anything he says anyway, remember? Except for the “51st state” nonsense…THAT crap you choose to believe, right?
Grow up and stop the constant trolling. Donald Trump clearly lives rent-free in your head 24/7…seek help.
By “trolling” you mean I say things you don’t want to hear. And the reason you don’t want to hear it is because your hero makes a horse’s ass of himself on an almost daily basis, which is painful to admit.
The good news is that in 2.5 years, Trump will be gone. And even if one of his supporters like Vance or Rubio takes his place, it’s bound to be a massive upgrade. And they can begin the long process of repairing the wreckage.
The problem with Trump is that he has used trade policy for geo-political ends. So many countries are sanctioned and stiffed that the US itself will become isolated. Remember it is mostly US eco-charities funding the opposition to the fuel industry in Canada; they want it for themselves. It seems to me, in my most paranoid moments, that the US want to monopolise the oil industry for the entire world, bombing those countries that do not comply – ie. Russia and Iran.
Just curious … how is it that Canada is powerless (sorry) to STOP the Tides Foundation and others from crippling the Canadian oil economy (among other conic segments) … but these American eco-fraud NGO’s are powerless to STOP … Drill Baby Drill in the USA?
May I suggest it is the same reason why Greta doesn’t host her NO OIL protests in Russia, China, or Brazil … because she’d be run out of town on a rail … or worse.
American eco-fraud NGO’s go to Canada … because they are welcomed with open arms and open legs. Canadians literally make love to these groups. Here in TX and other addresses … we tell them to GFThemselves. Perhaps you should stop fkcuing yourselves?
The best analogy (you know this) is that Texas is similar to Alberta and California is similar to BC. The problem with Alberta is no ocean port otherwise it would have told Canada where to go a long time ago. Tides was big in BC, the home of David Suzuki, a greenie province with no brains.
I googled “Is the Tides Foundation big in California? You betcha. $1.4 billion in assets and “a significant player in California”. So bend over.
Yes … my State ENDED logging because spot-legged owls or something. Point made. And yes Tides is headquartered in San Francisco … and collect bookoo Corporate donations … as indulgence offerings. Texas and Dakotas? tell Tides to fkcu right off
And taking control of Venezuela.
“The problem with Trump is that he has used trade policy for geo-political ends. So many countries are sanctioned and stiffed that the US itself will become isolated.”
The richest, most powerful nation in the world…the one that every other nation wants market access to? Yeah, they’re not too worried.
The US would be a much poorer nation without international trade. This isn’t my opinion. It’s the opinion of a slew of prominent economists:
https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-tariffs-economists-academics-trade-policy-letter-2025-4
But some people learn through books, others through observation, and some just have to piss on the electric fence for themselves.
Robert,
Happy Hour Already?
So you think the moneyed-rich kids (TWWD – tattooed white kids with worthless degrees) are a political arm of US foreign policy?
And we’re bombing Russia?
Maybe the Liberals are holding off negotiating until closer to election time to cause as many problems for the Republicans and Conservatives as they can.
Now they have Hilary running the PMO who knows whats going to happen?
Comment from the Big Chair, wonder if Trump would pull the PMs Visa, save Canadians a lot on catering.
Until Canadians are willing to put themselves into a servile position the US isn’t interested in talking.
“Until Canadians are willing to put themselves into a servile position the US isn’t interested in talking.”
And who do you think is to blame for that?
I knew killer unME would post in this thread, and present his STUPID!
Have you ever posted something other than vacuous insults on this site?
Oh, I’ve seen him post substantive insults. I think it depends on the size of his breakfast. Also, crudities, grunting, pools of snot… he’s more versatile than you give him credit for.
GYM is a shit hawk, prove me wrong.
Perhaps more like monkey throwing his own faeces, but again, prove me wrong.
“Carney’s wildfire answer leaves Canadians shaking their heads”
Some Canadians. And a minority at that. The rest cheer their Fiddler-In-Chief on …. while everything in their country burns or rots away.
Definitely a minority. A small one maybe.
Juno’s Faulkner, a serious conservative, asked what the causes could be and granted that “climate change” could be a factor. I suggest never using that two word phrase because deeply embedded in it are the hoaxy words “catastrophic climate change caused by humans”.
Better to say “cyclical climatic changes in the environment”. Or maybe not even mention it.
The concept that forest fires should be relatively constant every year in both size and number is idiotic.
As are (non)management practices that permit them to become larger each year. It’s a disease suffered both north and south of the border. Until we get that through our heads, and address root causes, we will continue to waste vast amounts of money fighting fires that never should have been.
Agreed. It’s almost as bad as the idea that there is an average earth temperature and that it’s highest now in the last 10 or 100 thousand years. It’s a cult in search of a pseudoscience to follow.
“This isn’t leadership.
This is cowardice dressed up as global statesmanship.”
That’s just silly.
Cowardice IS statesmanship in most of the western world.
Not sure where to jump in on CUSMA but it’s not set to expire until 2036 – ten years from now. If Trump wants to terminate it he will have to initiate the termination conditions which require approval from Congress. This probably explains why Carney is such a poop with the terms. He probably thinks he can outwait Trump and negotiate with someone “more reasonable”.
But what if this isn’t a Trump thing? What if the US government really is peeved at Canada? Afterall we went from importing cheap Chinese aluminum and making it into car parts right to importing cheap Chinese car parts made from cheap Chinese aluminum. The idea of annoying the largest economy in the world, the one you do almost 80% of your trade with, doesn’t seem like an expert idea Mark. Seems more Trudeau level. But luckily we have China, the EU and the UK. They will save us. And maybe Greenland.
I think Trump wants to set up America for success for the next three generations. Every other country is simply collateral damage in achieving that goal. However I think his strategy is flawed, pissing on your friends and neighbours makes them less likely to have your back when it counts.
I think it’s a Trump thing. His economic theories are fringe, and not shared by most people.
“I think it’s a Trump thing. His economic theories are fringe, and not shared by most people.”
And yet the US economy is growing, while Canada’s stagnates. Fascinating.
The US economy is growing, but not particularly fast. Job growth is blah.
His economic approach can be summarized as “do unto others as they do unto you.” It’s surprising to some how popular this approach is. One might call it golden.
And “trolling” is avoiding direct questions, always insulting those who disagree with you, never acknowledging truths spoken by other speakers, repeating the same claim as an absolute truth when others disagree that it’s correct in the first place, provoking anger and discord rather than open discussion, and showing no capability to learn or agree.
To which I’m pretty sure you’re going to invoke the poopoohead defence since that appears to be your modus operandi.
Well, and Roger Daltrey’s wardrobe was fringe, and not share by most people, but it never held him back.
Just saw bobblehead standing on the
World Cup medal stage downwind from Sheinbaum and Trump. Looking every inch the little putz that he is.
