Thank You For Your Attention To This Matter

Matt Margolis;

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, offering “congratulations to all!” He followed that up by authorizing what he called the “toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz” alongside the simultaneous removal of the naval blockade. Then, in classic Trump fashion, he added, “Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed the deal in a statement of his own. He announced that “the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED” after what he described as “intensive talks.”

He continued, “We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard.”

A formal signing ceremony is scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland, with mediators facilitating preliminary technical meetings this week to lay the groundwork.

Richard Fernandez provides context: Iran had to sign while they still had cards to hold.

  1. I know I’m in the minority on this, but there’s a significant number of people who were killed by the Iranian Gov’t and they are not likely going to be taken to task for this. I wouldn’t “make peace” with a gov’t of this type, maybe not so much to be concerned with on that front, I’d expect Iran to break any peace deal they sign.

    1. This agreement will be published on toilet paper. The Iranians will sign it with their left hands.

Agreed. Why did Trump leave any of the IRCG bases intact? Why did he force the IDF to stop their operations in Gaza before Hamas had been totally eliminated? Why has he forced the IDF to stop their operations in Lebanon?

How is the Middle East *any* safer today than it was yesterday?

Iranian media is already chortling about “forcing the Great Satan to back down.” Every talk show host and comedian in America will also be laughing at President Trump and calling him TACO tonight. How is this a win for America?

    2. You’re not in a minority. I’m right with you. But there IS a real-politic element to this agreement …

      – No forever wars
      – No regime changes
      – Midterms looming
      – Gasoline prices
      – Inflation
      – At least incremental concessions
      – Gulf States weary of the conflict … their economies hurting too
      – Trump won’t ever hesitate to return to military punishment for noncompliance
      – Trump stands up to Netanyahu (all contrived for worldwide consumption)
      – Committed the US to a diplomatic solution … right? Isn’t that what the Rules Based Order demands?
      – The left will mock the peace, hence stumbling into another Trump trap.

I could go on … but IMHO Trump has played this “conflict” perfectly. He’s shown great military restraint. Brilliantly blockaded Iran. And committed to a negotiated surrender. And what no one on the left wants to acknowledge … assembled a coalition of Arabic States UNITED against the Theocratically-insane Iran.

No, this isn’t a perfect, or necessarily COMPLETE operation. But it appears to have minimally achieved the simply stated goal of denying Iran a nuclear weapon. We’ll see. But make no mistake, Trump will send our military in again and again as needed.

    3. To rework an old joke:
Q: How do you pronounce “Cease Fire” in Persian?
      A: RELOAD!

  2. Are we allowed to ask what was achieved?

Other than to pump up my oil stocks, of course, which I’m grateful for.

  3. In that dog-eat-dog world,
anticipate Bahrainis, Egyptians, Iraqis, Jordanians, Kuwaitis, Lebanese, Qataris, Saudis, Syrians, Turkeys, UAE’s, West Bankens, Yemenis, Hamasians, Hezbolians, and so called Palestinians
to all be measuring up Iran.

  4. What happened to unconditional surrender? And why is Iran now slated for getting $300 billion in reconstruction aid from US taxpayers? As a petro state, they’re quite capable of earning enough oil revenue to fix things on their own dime.
