  1. it must be remembered, when dealing with despots like this bunch, on the international level, ‘agreements’ are fragile. because 1 bunch claiming to be in control makes an agreement, but another bunch claiming to be in control breaks the agreement to ‘show who’s in charge’.
this has to repeatedly play out until the internal bickering subsides and ‘someone’ makes an agreement and can make it hold on their side of the fence.
that this happened with lran and Hormuz is unsurprising and NO reflection on Trump.

    1. As I said in another thread … you have fallen into Trump’s latest trap … you want more war and less diplomacy. How … Democrat … of you. The last War-escalator like that was Lyndon Johnson … and that didn’t turn out too well for his legacy.

  2. As I said on the other thread:
Q: How do you pronounce “Cease Fire” in Persian?
    A: RELOAD!

    1. “Q: How do you pronounce “Cease Fire” in Persian?
      A: RELOAD!”

Exactly. If, as has been reported, this is merely a ceasefire where the Iranians have agreed to “talk about” their nuclear material in 60 days then THERE IS NO DEAL. The Iranian government is stalling, as they have been doing right from the start, and they have absolutely NO INTENTION of giving up their nuclear ambitions. None.

(they also had the nerve to demand that their proxies in Lebanon be left alone…and Trump went along with that?)

So disappointed in this development. This is the JCPOA with a new name.

      1. “Q: How do you pronounce “Cease Fire” in Persian?
        A: RELOAD!”

        – And pretty sure that’s how Trump pronounces “Cease Fire” too. He’s running out of Tomahawks, so it’ll be nice to have a few-month break to re-stock; and I betcha’ the IRGC won’t be able to shoot down the rapidly-being-stockpiled U.S. copy of their Shaheds either, so The Donald can save some bucks.

Permit, if you will, some crystal-ball-gazing (it’s made of real glass – I think) – I predict either (1) any serious resumption of hostilities (which we agree are virtually certain), or (2) a final cessation of hostilities, to include Iran handing-over all the enriched uranium Mossad could find, will happen either (if #1) just after, or (if #2) just before, the Midterms.

    2. It is the Americans who need to reload. Their wars on Russia and Iran showed them their eapons were to expensive, slow to produce and no good.

  3. Enriched uranium and nuclear fears aside, this all seems like powerplays over who gets richer from shipping oil, gas, and fertilizer to needy markets.
Geopolitics is a convoluted concept, but making money trumps solving entrenched civilizational differences, which serve the purpose of future activities.

  4. It is impossible to have a deal when there are so many factions within the Iranian regime.

I presume that they know that, and this is just to try to get the strait open, cause fighting between the factions over who bowed before the Great Satan and have another chance to catch them breaking the agreement.

Mohammed is quoted in the hadiths as saying you can make agreements with us disbelievers if Muslims are weak, and then can break any agreement with us Infidels once the Muslims are strong enough if it benefits the furthering of Islam.

  5. I must say that if this understanding goes forward and lasts I will be very grateful. Over the last few months I have never read such a collection of claptrap from such a collection of fools pretending to know what is going on in the Mideast and having the barest of knowledge and information that was available to Trump. The loudest and most vociferous coming from those that were predisposed with TDS. To those afflicted perhaps for the good of the country and Western society as a whole it would stand you in good stead to stand down and see what the next six months brings without plugging up this site with your vapid opinions about Trump and start looking at what the Democrats/Liberals/Labourites and Greenies have allowed to happen to the West while they were trying to bring down Trump. It will be especially entertaining to see how the European meetings go over the next few days.

  6. If this war ends with the Islamic Republic of Iran intact, it will all have been for nothing. One thing you can bank on is that Muslims, whether Iranian, Turkish, Boko Haram or any others, will never, never abandon the Koranic mandate to conquer and rule the world. This war, if there was any point to it, was to deal Islam such a defeat that its “submissives” would be free to repudiate that abomination and escape into the 21st century.

  7. I can only hope that Kenji and a couple of others here are correct, and that this ‘deal’ is just a trap for the IRGC and the regime…knowing that they will almost immediately violate it, Trump can then hit them HARD and FAST while still claiming that he wanted a peaceful resolution but Iran made it impossible.

I really hope that is the case, and Donald Trump didn’t just get played.
