  2. But, but, but … the Energy is “renewable” … unlike the limited fossil remains of dead dinosaurs [sic]. It’s FREE energy! Lowering your cost of energy! Just like solar panels that last forever and never degrade.

    Who cares? because our energy bills keep getting lower and lower … Right?

      1. Well … that’s how they’ve SOLD “clean, green, renewable energy. “Your energy bills will be lower!”
        Nope. The opposite has happened.

        1. They said the same about nuclear: “Energy too cheap to meter!”
          But nuclear is actually the best way forward if you want large amounts of baseload power to run data centers and charge electric cars, etc.

          On a side note, those turbines were on the coast, apparently. A harsh environment to begin with. The erosion in the picture reminds me of sea-plane propellers, water and high speed are not a good combination, sea-planes are rough on propellers!

      2. As the Germans found out. They decommissioned their first offshore wind farm last year after just 15 years of operation. Reason = high maintenance costs, which had been offset by government subsidies which ended, making it uneconomic.

  3. I’ve consulted with a few well known power transmission (bearings, gears, bushings etc) manufacturers. Everyone who knows anything knows these massive off balance rotating loads can’t be handled by anything in existence. Any research involves making something that can be replaced more easily when it wears out.

      Absolutely, Greg. When the wind doesn’t blow they have to be rotated so the bearings aren’t flattened, so they actually *draw* power from the grid rather than supplying it. Those huge gears need to be lubricated and the oil and grease changed. Then there is the problem of frequency to be dealt with.

      Wind turbines are the most expensive, least efficient and most environmentally harmful energy production available.

So when I drive through these windmill factories … and I see half of the blades all rotating at the exact same slow speed … which makes no sense to me since wind is by its nature … variable. Great … so the gigantic hulking eyesores are actually stealing energy to remain viable.

  4. They will never come close to offsetting the environmental cost of building and maintaining them, and the massive economic subsidies required are rarely mentioned.

    Wind turbines are a great thing for the people who sell and install them…not so much for the rest of us.

    That statement is a bit misleading in that it could fool you into thinking that wind farms are economic over their first 12 years. Now that we have confirmation they don’t last as long as promised (shocker) the amortization period is cut in half and they will never return a positive investment.

    Imagine what the world would be like if we didn’t have fossil fuels to subsidize our foolish ambitions.

    Your car has a cooling fan, it cools the engine.
    Same with those ceiling fans that cool you house.
    And if we point them all the same direction we can speed up the revolution of the Earth too.

Wind farms run on subsidies and forcing the costs transferred to the baseload providers on the grid who make it possible to allow wind farms to get paid whenever they have wind within their operating range. They are legalized bird and bat slice and dice machines, eye sores, unreliable, land intensive (including landfills), and also short-lived. If their proponents were required to provide reliable grid demand electricity 24/7 (IOW, with their own baseload), they could not compete with other systems.

  10. Overall we are surprised at this? When are we as a rational people going to WTHU, (Wake the Hell Up, for the uninitiated) about what these bureaucrats and politicians are doing. EVs were going to solve our transit problems we were assured by our governments but they failed to mention our infrastructure would have to be massively overhauled, from the grid to insurance policies and everything in between, not to mention the exaggerated mileage, the cost of replacement power cells, etc., etc. Then there is the Net Zero and Green agendas that will solve the climate catastrophe that was a figment of some delusional mind. Actual fact is that the climate has been changing since time began. They sold that to us and a large percentage of the stupid among us bought it. Then who can forget the Covid scam that they also produced. According to ‘scientific models’ this ‘natural occurring’ virus would wipe out 50% of the global population if we didn’t all get the government sponsored injection that we, our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will pay for in order to enrich today’s snake oil salesmen, self same bureaucrats and politicians liberally intermixed with scientific individuals out to scam humanity. Now the latest con job is coming undone as more and more of us wake up to the fact that although all men may be equal the cultures adopted by those men are worlds apart. Our tolerance and compassion are used by the ‘salesmen’ to further their own ends and woe betide those of us that are saying enough is enough! The breakdown of these miracles of boundless, unending, free energy should be the wake up call to all of the scams thus far inflicted on the ignorant and stupid. If we don’t educate ourselves out of ignorance then stupidly we are nothing more than today’s Elio for the today’s political bureaucratic Morlocks.

    This implies that green energy was ever economic.

    It wasn’t.

    Green energy relies on astronomical subsidies along every step of the journey, stealing wealth from individuals and the useful sources of energy in the process. It simply reveals that the lies continually spouted over the benefits of green energy are just that. Lies.

    1. Watch how the dominos fall. For example, about 90% of on-shore wind farms in Europe are manufactured by Siemens (I think out of Denmark). Siemens provides a life time warranty for minor AND MAJOR repairs using 20 to 25 years as the projected lifetime of the unit.

      Considering the halfed lifetime due to these damages, you now have a majorly Green company that is going to take a MAJOR warranty hit for “misrepresenting” the lifetime of their product. That’s going to degrade their bottom line by a lot.

      Siemens is likely to take a financial hit difficult to navigate or survive.

  14. Personally, I rather like the ‘lighting rod’ effect these things have, keeping the public eye off the vibrant, undocumented private power plant industry. Take the SL-1D2 that a buddy of mine has in his underground lair off of Strathmore in Toronto. Plenty of free power for his friends (200 kW!). Only one control rod to worry about. Let people keep talking about windmills; nobody needs to know about how easy it is to build yourself a home reactor using commercially available material, some stainless steel welding know how, and, gumption. If you know a plumber, electrician, and, a welder, you have the basics for your team. Create community and get yourself a financial edge! It is better if it is free!
