  1. Yet oil remains UNDER $100/bbl

Pretty much the price that Brian LOVES to death as his profit margins explode. So … ya wanna manipulate the market? Then just allow Iran to effectively shut down the straits. No war needed. Just destabilizing The Great Satan’s political fortunes. Iran is in total control … while the Euro-weenies play with themselves. Meh. Hasn’t changed my life.

    1. FYI the price of oil was around $100 per barrel from mid 2009 to October 2014, and guess what – the world did not end. Indeed, it was a boom time for much of the West.

      1. Yet this opinion writer suggests that Trump’s war has closed the straits … which is putting the world in an oil straitjacket? Hardly. And BTW … we sent two destroyers through the straits today in preparation of opening the straits with underwater drones. The straits are gonna get solved … and oil prices will retreat as we FORCE Iran to retreat and join the family of man.

A nation that mass murders its own people … and shuts down international ocean transport … cannot be allowed to survive.

So to the author. Yeah, I’ve learned more about the straits … but learned even MORE about the radical Iranian mullahs. And they’ve gotta go.

  2. Why does Iran get to close the Strait of Hormuz anyway? You have Iran on one side and the UAE on the other.

    1. Iranian mullahs are stark raving insane. As far as they are concerned, they will please Allah if they start a Global Thermonuclear War.
The United Arab Emirates? They are a bit more sane and still possess a few of their marbles. They would rather flaunt their wealth than argue over the Strait.

  3. Geez. Trump’s acting like he has a big Iranian finger shoved up his arse or something.

    1. your metaphor escapes me. by some metrics Trump has succeeded spectacularly in his objectives regarding lran,
      – lranian nuke weapons capacity kaputz.
-financing of numerous terrorist organizations via Dubai kaputz
-London bankers financing the stranglehold on mid east oil kaputz.
-the decent peace loving PERSIANS in lran have a crack at running things after 47 years of insane sharia.

so what is this finger thing?

You forgot, Trump has destroyed NATO, and the EU. Which is better than all the rest combined.

GOD BLESS AMERICA, it’s Righteous Warriors and President Trump

  6. The City of London had more influence on the flow of oil through the Straight, than did Iran. The IRGC is the City’s proxy army.

    1. Spot on, Lloyds of, ahem, The “City of London” were the main culprits, refusing hull and cargo coverage for the first time in 300 years, war never stopped them before. Then when the Americans came up with a work around, Lloyd’s told all the shippers that if they took the US insurance they would refuse all their ships anywhere in perpetuity.

  7. Indeed, Iran has (for now, anyway) managed to close the Straits of Hormuz to those who will pay the Danegeld (or would that be Jizya since it’s being paid to an Islamic regiem?) for now. But even if they can maintain this extortion for now, it will not work out well for Iran.

Pipelines to the Med will be the answer, and though they are somewhat expensive to initially construct, any of the existing chokepoints will be eliminated (Hormuz, Suez Canal, and Bab al Mandab). Of course there is theoretically the Gibraltar choke point, but I doubt it will be a problem.
