    1. Robert or Francisco or Kate – request to elevate this linked article to a be main link, there is some real deep brain analysis in there…

    2. I’m inclined to agree with this analysis … not because I necessarily agree with the idea of Trump always playing 4d chess … but I DO listen to what Trump says … and when he says he has alternatives and options if the SCOTUS writes another stupid ‘opinion’ on his tariff powers … I believe him. I believe that he has more up his sleeve than just some 120-day tariff play.

      1. egadfry. the mark of a multibillionaire property developer, a backup plan for the backup plan.
except the ‘real estate’ he’s managing now in the entire sometimes ungrateful nation

  1. We don’t need the oil, so why would the US waste time and money opening the Strait of Hormuz? Let the limp-wristed Islamist/Terrorist loving EU open it. If they can. If not, energy poverty is a lesson well learned.

(I got my MSM propaganda news today, but I can’t read it because the lights ain’t on).

    1. The various Arab countries whose infrastructure is being bombed by Iran, can open the straits.

    1. eeeeeeexactly. ginormous difference between say, german, british or french military personnel stepping off the landing craft, and letting K-135s fly in EU airspace headed for mid east missions. big big BIG difference.
except in a TDS addled brain. f ’em. freeze in the dark EU. l care not what happens to your infrastructure l will NOT set foot on your lands, giving up a dream l had way before my retirement. not now ashwipes. not now.

      1. I agree with you! After reading about the years of Islamic take-over and the downfall of civility in most European countries (NOT Hungary, Not Czechslovakia (sp?)) and Great Britain, I truly have no more interest in visiting them. Mind you, I am now 74 and there are plenty of places in Canada which I have not yet visited.

        1. North America is full of delightful destinations. More than sufficient entertainment for a lifetime.

  2. So … I made it from literally the coast of CA to the Appalachian mountains in three days. Yep, I made the kessel run in three parsecs … in the Millenium moving van (and trailer).

Days 1 and 2 were mostly beautiful crusin weather, other than the deteriorated and pathetically patched highways … but day 3? Oh my. This must be what it’s like to NOT live in always-sunny CA. The skies were ANGRY my friends. Walked out of my Amarillo motel room (in shorts) to gale force winds. Oh my! After I slipped on my sweat pants and jacket … I proceeded to struggle keeping my box truck and trailer on the roadway, let alone my own lane markings. Easily 50mph gusts buffeting me. Yes, it was a constant struggle from Amarillo to OK City … “where the wind comes whipping down the plains” … where there is no vegetation to speak of. But I saw my first sub-$4.00/gal. gasoline at a CONOCOPHILLIPS station in Amarillo. $3.89/gal. No Kenji, you’re not in CA anymore … but definitely in Kansas weather.

As I approached Arkansas … and the highway turned into a beautiful divided lane ‘parkway’ with manicured green grass island and shoulders … with dense forest each side … the winds were tamed and the driving struggle eased. Thank you Arkansas! Thank you Huckabee family! This is how interstate highways SHOULD look … and drive.

But alas … my reprieve did not last out the storm. Ironically … my streaming Bluetoothed KVHS radio station was playing the Doors – Riders on the Storm. I kid you not. ”There’s a killer on the road …” … more like the road itself is a killer. So … about 30 miles West of Memphis … the gale force winds blew up again. But even WORSE. I could barely drive 50mph … and probably should have just waited this out in another motel … but the West Memphis pickings were grim at best. So, I traveled on … with EVERY Punjabi-piloted big rig passing me on the left … fishtailing into my lane … as I did my level best to hug the shoulder line without rolling onto the ‘wake you up’ grooved paving. I don’t scare easy … but with each passing big rig (there were probably 50 passings at least) … I imagined I’d be featured as another victim of Punjabi driving school on SDA.

    Oh … it gets worse.

Then, just as I am approaching West Memphis and the Mississippi River … it started to rain. Nope. Hadn’t rained a drop until then. So it’s pouring rain, blowing a gale, and the roadway narrows to a one lane merge. No, nobody in America knows how to merge properly and politely. Cars speeding around me on the shoulder, cutting in front of me. A total vehicular shitshow. Then, as I am literally over the Mississippi River … the passenger-side windshield wiper comes loose from its clip holder and is flailing wildly across windshield. F_CK!!!! Thanks a LOT, rental truck company! I was panicked at the thought of this loose blade hitting my one good blade and rendering both blades useless. So I shut them off and proceeded to manually turn the wipers on … one swipe at a time as needed … for the next 40 miles till the rain stopped.

Oh, did I mention that it’s darkening skies … at peak rush hour traffic … driving through what must be the absolute WORST urban highway maze in America over Memphis. No wiper blades. Massive traffic jam. Can’t see out the windshield. Cars zooming right, left. Cars panic-stopping. And the absolute worst … the two right lanes were stacked with 50 stopped cars waiting for traffic signals located about 500ft at the end of the freeway ramp. Who designed THIS idiotic system? And this wasn’t just at one exit. It was occurring at multiple exits. And literally took OUT the two right hand lanes of the freeway. So I had to navigate through the middle lanes of this gauntlet maze with cars pulling out in front of me … circling around me … slamming on their brakes. A total nightmare.

Well … I don’t know how … but I made it through that tortured gauntlet … and proceeded to my destination … in the dark (first time since leaving Amarillo in the semi-dark 6:00am skies) … and the rental truck lights were for shit, and the high beams worse. So, in order to see in the black, unlit, highway … I took to drafting behind big rigs who would show me the way. Did I mention the big rigs no longer drive 55? Ha! They all drive 75mph – 85mph. I kid you not. So I am trying to keep up with 80mph big rigs in my rental truck and vehicle trailer on a near deserted blacked-out highway.

Well … I finally made my destination at about 10:30pm. Man, am I glad I’m FLYING home at the end of the week. And … BTW … my upper back is sore as hell from this drive. It was taking ALL my muscles to guide my rig in these conditions. I never have ANY sore back issues … but I feel the need for some Midol … or maybe fentanyl about now.

Thank you for letting me … share. Uggh. Task complete.

    1. Great read, Kenji….sounds like quite the adventure. Glad you made it in one piece.
