The advertisement lists Ma as one of three hosts alongside Hodgson and MP Gary Anandasangaree. Tickets for those 35 and under are priced at $925.

I was in China in 2006 and visited a mine in the northwest (near Ürümqi), the largest Uyghur city. While I didn’t see the miners (who were lowered down an open shaft to 800 m with a rope and bucket), I did see the “prisoner” who operated the tipple in action. He was wearing a black and white striped prisoner’s uniform and had no shoes. There were no washrooms which I discovered when I went looking for some surface exposures of ultramafic rock and walked into a mine field of human excrement. The Chinese made no attempt to hide any of this. We would later meet the owner of the mine for dinner. A very flamboyant man.
I’ve also met Energy Minister Tom Hodgson. Helped him into a helicopter. I found him to be very intelligent, engaging, and a generally nice person.
The Chinese definitely use prison labour. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. But not all Uyghurs are slaves. And take a trip to a native settlement in Canada and tell me how much better we are.
