  1. Demolishing Customer Loyalty.
FYI this isn’t a universal practice at Hilton. I spoke to the second-shift receptionist at a Hampton in Colorado last month and she saved me $120 a night on a reservation. AI ain’t going to do that!

    1. I always liked my boy Beck’s take on our automated future … Hell Yes.

      hai. Yea, that’s it.
      Yea, that’s it.
      Yea, that’s it.
      hai.

In Japanese, the word hai means more than just Yes. It is an acknowledgement that you are paying attention to the speaker. Just like this Ai robot was pretending to do.

      1. Japanese guy goes to the airline counter and presents a ticket to Indonesia. Clerk says, “Bali?” Jap says, “Hai!”

    1. The town next door to me settled several $ multi-million lawsuits brought by victims (all girls) of two instructors at the school … a “beloved” (male) science teacher and a “beloved” (female) girls PE teacher (yeah, you can fill in the blanks).

I actually coached two girls (on my competitive soccer team) who were molested by each of these teachers. They were wonderful kids … literally exceptional kids who got sucked into (sorry) a horrible molestation when they were young impressionable middle schoolers. They’ve mostly recovered and have gone on to literally famous careers … one as a highly respected swim coach at UC Berkeley. But there was something of an epidemic of local middle school molestations in the early 2000’s in my community. Sad.

  2. The ‘morning’ song with a deep meaning for me … I first heard during a Spring Break trip to UC Santa Barbara in 1975. Well … Isla Vista … to the big street party – Deltopia. Hey! Why would Santa Barbara residents fly to some beach for Spring Break!? They live on one. So we’re partying with a good friend of mine from HS who is a Freshman at UC Santa Barbara … and he puts on this lp from a band I’d never heard of – Hall and Oates … says it’s his favorite lp … Abandoned Luncheonette. Odd name for an lp.

And I still can hear … When the Morning Comes which Ken said was his favorite cut. It was my first introduction to Blue Eyed soul (outside Steve Winwood … who’s still more of a rocker). And I became a Hall & Oates fan.

    1. Death and taxes. That’s all that’s guaranteed in this life.

So why not merge them together as Death Taxes.

Communists are NOT your friends … and esp. not your children’s friends.

    2. “Hello I just arrived from Africa five minutes ago and was elected mayor. All of the wealth your family has spent generations building is mine now.”

    1. My son used to fly the RJ into LGA, When he was with Jazz.

That’s getting a bit close to home. I’ve not had chance to speak with him about this yet. From what I’ve heard, the ground controller cleared the truck in error to cross 04 for another emergency, however it is still the responsibility of the truck driver to make sure the runway is clear before crossing. The RJ crew had no chance.

When taxiing my plane and I get clearance to cross a runway, I always visually check it is clear.

A bit of good news in the world. The ABC broadcast corporation (Australia’s left-wing equivalent to our CBC) is set to go on strike.

The CBC it seems never goes on strike. This is because the CBC management gives the woke unions everything it wants. Money is no object.

    1. There was the time we watched CFL on CBC Sports without any colour commentary. Was actually an improvement.

  4. In WWI, Germany unleashed, for the first time, chlorine gas in Belgium in late April 1915. While the attack was very effective, the Germans couldn’t break through the line, in part because the area was concentrated with chlorine gas. The gas was so effective that soldiers were shooting themselves to end the pain.

The man who developed the poison gas, Fritz Haber, would later win the Nobel prize in 1918 for the development of ammonia fertilizer. His wife wasn’t impressed apparently, and neither were many other scientists who provided Haber with a cold shoulder at the Nobel reception. The British quickly developed their own chlorine gas weapons (by September of that year) but they proved difficult to unleash in battle. By the time both sides figured it out, they had also developed preventive ways of dealing with the gas.

Haber, a Jew, would later run into difficulty as the second world war approached and he later died penniless.

    Life is complicated.

    1. You know, if there’s a bright side to being convicted of dog torture, it would be that that you could then put “dog torturer” on your business cards. I’m not saying it would be worth it, but it would be some compensation.
