The Laurentian Elite Are Clutching Their Pearls (Again)

And they would like you to join them on the fainting couch.

Globe and Mail- The Sunday Editorial: Venezuela’s fate is a warning for Canada

The motivation is simple, and ancient: empire. Saturday marked the formal debut of an imperial America, led by a president who recognizes no law, save that of the jungle. Already, Mr. Trump is turning his attention elsewhere, saying in an interview Saturday that “something’s going to have to be done with Mexico.”

Every country in the Western Hemisphere should be worried, particularly this country, which Mr. Trump so obviously covets as a 51st state.

96 Replies to “The Laurentian Elite Are Clutching Their Pearls (Again)”

  1. The only reason to read the Globe is to see what dangerous nonsense the left is up to and the only proper way to read it is from a used copy obtained for free or if online from any place but the Globe’s site.

No money will ever voluntarily go from me to them.

I assume the Globe is on the take from the Liberals and if the Conservatives ever do gain power and fail to end that, I’ll be done with them.

    1. “No money will ever voluntarily go from me to them.”

Likewise. The “51st state” stuff is particularly ridiculous coming from so-called ‘journalists’ who have apparently never bother to read even one of Donald Trump’s books. It’s all in there: the distraction tactics, the ‘pretend to be a loose cannon’ ploy, the ‘say outrageous things, then walk them back’ stuff…everything.

Even simple common sense would suffice in this case, though: why on earth would Trump want 40 million new Democrat voters? Makes no sense. The Canadian public, though, conditioned through years of media-fed TDS, ate it up (and our politicians quickly exploited that for their own selfish reasons). Now we are totally screwed: we have initiated a trade war that we cannot win and Trump cannot lose. Well done, Liberals.

    2. The so called Conservatives have been sending emails begging for donations.
From here they got the reply to the effect that they agree with so called Liberals in using tax money to support the mass media cartel and I don’t.
      Interestingly, the emails stopped coming.

  2. I wasn’t aware there were so many fabulists on The Globe and Mail‘s editorial board.

    1. The last number of months the Globe ha become a robotic lapdog of the Carney Liberals, going Ro far as to emulate CBC news. Many readers, as seen in the reader comments, are horrified. Many make jokes about the Globe’s yes-man behavior. .

  3. It’s your precious body fluids that we covet. The Canadian left really needs to get over themselves.

    1. I would love to see Alberta, Saskatchewan and most of BC become part of the American dream. The rest of Canada can enjoy what’s left over … on their own dime.

Carny and the clowns who support him are mandated by the globalists, the WEF, the Davos gang, what is left of the Club of Rome and the Lizard people in Buckingham Palace to take Canada down Canada and let Brookfield buy it up for pennies on the dollar.

      Believe it!

  4. “ Mr. Trump so obviously covets as a 51st state.”

    There they go again

    He doesn’t
What he has explained is that anyone that wishes to enjoy the benefits that the US has whether its trade or anything, don’t expect to get them without taking the obligations and burdens also borne by the US.
The easiest way to get there is just becoming another US state.
Any other path is going to be far more difficult and complicated

    1. ““ Mr. Trump so obviously covets as a 51st state.”

      There they go again ”

Yeah, it sells well to the low-information ‘Elbows Up!’ crowd.

Those dimwits actually believe that Canada has some heretofore unknown magical economic advantage that we can suddenly produce to fight the US with. “We’ll bring them to their knees, just you wait and see!”

      (idiots, all of them)

      1. I often wondered how this mindset took hold and after some pondering it can be attributed to the fact that canada in it’s current form came to be as a legislated construct to maintain the status quo that existed prior to 1763.
They kept the bureaucracy in New France in place because the alternative would be the folks replacing them would be the colonists in the New England colonies some of whom the Brit’s suspected had a different idea how things should work, couldn’t have that.
So the British made a deal with the existing bureaucracy that as long as they swore allegiance to the king they could still run things

      2. There’s NO WAY our military or Delta Forces would ever dare attempt anything against a neighbor with their elbows up! They could get bruised in the ribs as your dead corpses hit the ground. Elbows will keep you safe.

  5. They just don’t get it, whether it’s propaganda on purpose to deceive the minions, or, just plain old insanity of the Fabian left in Canaderp.
Either way, Trump isn’t invading or Annexing.
The Carnage regime has decided upon confrontation, so Trump will give it to them. He hasn’t even started yet, bigger fish to fry, as we see.
No, our “war” will be strictly economic, the end of USMCA is baked in already. Whether or not a new deal is made, is up in the air. This country would prefer, it seems, to be economically embargoed, and tariffed to the extreme. “Cuz we fight”, or something like that. Our borders will become bigger parking lots than they are today, for all commercial traffic crossing. Even port deliveries will get scrutinized in ways not previously done. Yes, economic pressure squared.
Sorry, the Americans aren’t coming to save us, they’re going to let us cook in our juices and feel the pain inflicted upon ourselves.

  6. I should pen a pointed missive to Mr. Trump to clearly state that he does not want to annex the fwogs of the east, the welfare bums in Atlantic Canada or the west coast fairies and indians.

However, in the event an Alberta secession referendum is unsuccessful, I could make a great case that Alberta and Saskatchewan are already amazing border buddies with Montana and North Dakota and would make the perfect 51st state.

    1. I live in Montana and just about all our vacations are in Banff, Jasper, Calgary and Southern AB. Love the province.

As an American I’d be happy for AB and SK to join us but would be even happier maybe if they split off and became independent with a defense treaty with the US just case Ottawa gets any Marxist, Globalist ideas.

  7. This is a repeat of the Bin Laden raid/killing where the Pakistan military was bought off to stand-down.

The US has been trying to force regime change since Chavez came to power by imposing crippling sanctions on Venezuela which have created extreme hardship for the citizen.

I have no love for Maduro , but the illegal Maduro kidnapping is pure theater for the upcoming Nov 2026 US mid-terms . Ask yourself the question … how did a very big , very noisy , very large radar cross-section helicopter enter the country without a shot fired at it , then hovered over an apartment block and remained undetected while forces descended and apprehended Maduro, then returned to base unscathed?

“I know, it is going to be hurtful to many but they don’t call those countries banana republics for nothing, banana republic being a euphemism for corrupt regimes and toy armies. Some news (from there)–the chief of Maduro’s security detail as well as a number of others have been bought by the US. In fact, there was a Russian military group which rushed to Maduro residence but it was held off by the fire of … yep, Maduro security people. By the time Russians dealt with those traitors, Maduro was already gone. The chief of security detail has been caught and was executed already.”

For those sneering at the “elites” I hope you like living under the US rule , which changes with the wind , whenever the US perceives a threat to it’s hegemony , and in this case a narcissistic president who has dementia. Oh and BTW about those pipelines , do you think the US will ever allow Canada to be an oil exporter?

    1. …a narcissistic president who has dementia.

Wait… I thought we got rid of Joe Biden?

      1. The missive presuming that Trump is suffering from dementia is a talking point currently used by all the folks that either willfully ignored or hid the fact that Biden was a turnip.

    2. “For those sneering at the “elites” I hope you like living under the US rule , which changes with the wind ”

Yes it does. And that’s good.
Now Canaduh, yeah Canaduh is another story. Canaduh never changes.
Canaduh is a bad arrangement for Alberta.

    3. “ have no love for Maduro , but the illegal Maduro kidnapping “

Sorry bro, but the ILLEGAL importation of narcotics over the last couple decades killing hundreds of thousands of U.S. citizens, the murderous Tren de aragua gangs infiltration of the U.S., the partnership with Iran (Hezbollah too), the partnership with the most murderous regime in all of human history (China), etc etc etc necessitated action. Send your crayon letters to The Hague.

    4. Good evening comrade “Brian”, how’s the weather in Moscow tonight? I guess you missed the memo where many of us would be delighted to suddenly be citizens of the USA, but that’s probably because that’s what you’re paid for. As to Canada not exporting oil, last year Europe received 5.9 million metric tons, China 9.2 million metric tons, and Asia Pacific 0.8 million metric tons. Now you’ll do what’s called “moving the goalposts”, or “whataboutism”, and I don’t care because I’m not getting paid to talk to someone that is.

    5. Maduro wasn’t “kidnapped” nor was it illegal. Maduro is not the legitimate “leader” of Venezuela. Stop whining. As for narcissistic president who has dementia he is about a hundred steps ahead of a mental cripple like yourself.

    6. Gee Brian, keeping 60-70%More Money would be terrible.
FREE SPEECH? Also Gross and Terrible
2nd Amendment? Wow that liberty would suck.
No Tax on Overtime and Tips? How Selfish to allow that Brian.

Yes, we all want to live in your reality of Oppression, Depression, no Fellowship, no jobs, no housing, Despotism, Violence and Decay. You know, FILTHY LIBERAL Kanada

    7. ” a narcissistic president who has dementia”

That’s where I stopped reading, right there. Good thing that you waited until the very end to post that drivel…if you had placed it at the beginning, few people here would have bothered to read the rest of your leftist crap.

    8. “The US has been trying to force regime change since Chavez came to power by imposing crippling sanctions on Venezuela which have created extreme hardship for the citizen.”

FU and F Chavez and Maduro. Only Communists like these scum bags.

Go play with your copy of The Communist Manifesto.

    9. “Ask yourself the question … how did a very big , very noisy , very large radar cross-section helicopter enter the country without a shot fired at it…”

You should brush up on how the operation was carried out. Hundreds of fighter and bombers were involved, and special ops helos – dozens- made their way through with fire support from gunships. Some helos were hit by ground fire.

    10. Aw, you mad bro?

Ker v. Illinois, 119 U.S. 436 — interesting case; you should look into it, but make sure to have some tissue; it might be triggering.

The Chinooks weren’t undetected; special operations aren’t done during a full moon, but this one was. Messages are important. As for how it happened, well, maybe that’s a secret.

As for living under U.S. rule: yeah, the Bill of Rights is an awful thing; you should definitely not want it. But, fear not, we’re not coming for you…yet.

    11. That’s a lot of words and a very long way to admit you’re a nut job conspiracy theory addict.

  8. Is Andrew Coyne still recovering from a Toilet Duck hangover?
I haven’t heard his TDS ravings over this.

    Bad day for Kamala:
“The Biden-Harris administration made available a $25,000,000 reward for information that would have lead to the arrest of Nicolas Maduro.

Now you’re saying capturing him was unlawful? Did you just entirely forget your administration’s policy?”
    https://x.com/willchamberlain/status/2007652410077086175?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E2007652410077086175%7Ctwgr%5E5b862b3f8b54c949d5b02de2df24832cef58f6fd%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Finstapundit.com%2F766899%2F

  9. So their worry is that Trump is going to invade Canada like he just did in Venezuela. That’s interesting considering that Venezuela was invaded to remove a corrupt leader who was impoverishing his citizens, allowing the trafficking of narcotics and humans into the USA and politically aligning themselves with America’s enemies like China. Hmmmm…that does sound a lot like the Canadian Liberal government so maybe the worry is justified. /s

As we can see in Venezuela, what one person sees as an invader is another person sees as a liberator. The Venezuelan people who were not part of the Chavez/Maduro political/criminal organization seem to be celebrating the events as liberation. Maybe the globe and mail is worried that certain parts of Canada might also feel the same about being liberated from Ottawa?

    1. See there’s the thing.
The US did not invade and hold territory.
They came in and did an extraction without losing one person, suffer any injuries, or lose any hardware.
On top of that, they made Maduro do a perp walk so the regime in Caracas wouldn’t be able to claim otherwise to their own people.

  10. In the editorial, they wrote:

“U.S. President Donald Trump has no interest in restoring Venezuelan democracy, or in helping the people who have suffered the rule of Mr. Maduro and his predecessors from Hugo Chávez onward for much of the last three decades.”

How precisely do they know this? Are they now able to read Trump’s mind?!? As the great Scott Adams has often said, this is a clear hallmark of Loser Think.

    1. The don’t know it. The Mope and Wail is a China Communist puppet organization just like Carney himself.

    2. I was about to take issue with that same statement, based on TDS , and contrary to what we have seen so far.

Trump has a shopping list and is working his way through it in logical order. Recent events have made Venezuela’s welcoming Cuban, Chinese and Russian intelligence and military an increasingly immanent threat to American shipping o the Gulf ports, especially after we saw the Russian fleet bottled up by underwater drones. There are only two narrow deep water shipping channels and one is close to Venezuela.

As for canada and Mexico, the US has a long history of meddling in Mexico and annexing territory. The same was thwarted in Canada by British and Indian resistance.

I don’t think there’s any chance of an American invasion but I think they’re watching us march toward a cliff. Are they goading us on?

Already many in Western Canada think that the US would treat us better than the Laurentian brain trust that has led Canada to a crisis without even realizing it.

      After all, “Who cares?”

      1. Sitting here to the west of you I suspect we’d be willing to accept Western Canada as Eastern Alaska, -but Canada has to keep Vancouver!

        1. “Sitting here to the west of you I suspect we’d be willing to accept Western Canada as Eastern Alaska, -but Canada has to keep Vancouver!”

Agreed. I’ll move out of here in a heartbeat.

        2. Vancouver can join Washington State and what is left of Oregon after the Greater Idaho Project takes southern Oregon.

        3. 54-40 or Fight!! James Polk, Oregon purchase…

Do they not teach history in school anymore? Yes I know they don’t, it was rhetorical.

      2. “I don’t think there’s any chance of an American invasion but I think they’re watching us march toward a cliff. Are they goading us on?”

Their NGOs are paying for it. You know why there’s no pipeline? Tides Foundation. Where did they get their money for ten years? USAID.

You notice that all sorts of stuff is floating to the surface lately? Like the Somali daycare scam, busted by a freaking high school kid with a phone and a YouTube channel? USAID isn’t paying to keep it buried anymore, so it’s all coming unglued.

Who paid to get #ElbowsUp in power and keep him there? Same people who paid to get #LetsGoBrandon in power.

Just follow the money and you’ll find out what’s up. Which goes to show how amazingly corrupt our media has been, and for how long. Some kid with a skateboard and a YouTube channel is eating their lunch.

    3. It’s an old trick. They just state a ridiculous assumption as fact to build their strawman. I mean EVERYBODY KNOWS Trump is mad dictator and he doesn’t care about people… How dare you challenge the assumption that is the basis of my argument?

    1. Marc ”七十 Billy” Zeller on X: “I’m devastated by this illegal capture of an elected head of state by Trump. I live in constant fear my beloved leader, Macron who lives at 55 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré, Paris share the same fate. He’s usually home with Brigitte by 9pm.” / X

  11. I’m in; Fortress North America.
The Government Media protests are glorious..
    A threat to democracy!
Coming from the clowns who cheered on the “State of Emergency” and have steadfastly refused to follow up on the State of Thuggery brought in by our fearless dear leaders..
    Yet Orangeman bad!.
Eastern Canada loves to posture, pose and freeload.

For decades Canada has freeloaded off of USA Military defence and global dominance, while insulting our protector..
Now,Can Ahh Duh is a failed state.

We have no respect for the individual rights of the productive citizen,we protect thieves, fools and bandits as our society has fallen apart.

President Trump looks North, and sees a self admitted bankrupt lawless nation, falling into chaos.
Such is a real threat to USA.
Our Progressive Comrades are a very real threat to peace and security ,as they actively destroy our civil institutions..
The bare faced corruption of our political “elites”,parallels the path Venezuela and Zimbabwe both took.
We turn a deliberate blind eye to drug runners, money laundering ..ect.
When asked,to do something to enforce “Law and Order” ,the Canadian Elites threw a tantrum.

Finally, even if the Globe and Mail was right, that this is “A warning to Can Ahh Duh”…Such a warning will go unheeded by parasitic overload..
When you pay depends on not seeing, like the government funded media, you will not see.

Can Ahh Duh as we know it cannot survive without robbing the West and freeloading off of the USA..
Our Not See’s will refuse to acknowledge the State of Thuggery, for they are it.

  12. I’ve got it on good authority that people un Zimbabwe are asking if President Trump is doing this alphabetically?

  13. Is it the Globe and Mail’s editorial position that Maduro be reinstalled as dictator of Venezuela so he can continue abusing Venezuelan’s human rights and continue the China/Iran/Russia asymmetric drug war against America?

H.R. McMaster: “There are two ways to fight a war against America; asymmetrically, and stupidly.”

Drugs as a source of revenue and a weapon in the war against America:
    https://smallwarsjournal.com/2025/05/28/venezuelas-gray-war-a-criminal-army-a-migrant-wave-and-the-us-invasion/

    1. The Globe and Mail praised María Corina Machado for winning the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, highlighting her courageous fight for democracy and human rights in Venezuela. The award recognizes her efforts to promote a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy in her country.

  14. The moral preening from the left is rather nauseating, so pound salt would ya? When Hillary Clinton flattened the Middle East, specifically Libya…killing and maiming thousands, displacing millions Time Magazine and others from the media intelligentsia heralded it as “The Rise of Smart Power”. Showering praise on the female triumvirate of Samantha Powers, Susan Rice and Hillary Clinton characterizing them as the new international bad asses, delivering their brand of justice to anyone in the world who steps out of line. That’s right, Baby!!! Chicks with big swingin’ dicks.
“We came …we saw…he died” HYUK!!!! For Muamaar it meant being sodomized with a bayonet before the death part but hey, let’s not get caught up in the minutiae, we’ve got a regime change going on.
For most on the left, history begins when they get up in the morning.
I see a lot of talk about “international law” these last two days which is funny when one considers where it’s coming from.
In the words of George Bush…”International law? Oh my goodness…I’d better lawyer up.”

    1. And in the words of Hillary Clinton (an absolute moron of biblical proportions)….”What difference at this point does it make?”

    2. We did get the expression “Lybian crossfire” out of it. It was reported Khadaffi died in a Lybian crossfire. That’s when a bullet crosses from your left temple to your right temple.

  15. The Rag says Canada needs to increase exports to places other than the US.
The US is going to force us to, or meet their terms – prolly a combo.
    “You will freeload no more.”
The rest of the world will watch us fade away and decline, the post nation of the Black-faced imbecile and the Fascist Forever Liberal Party, becoming the backwater for nature tourists, hunters and fisherman.
Mining, farming and O&G will be the only exports.
    Probably for the better.

  16. The only law is the law of the jungle, the left is just mad the rest of the world finally caught on.

There is no such thing as a post WW2 rules based order, and there never was.

  17. “Venezuela’s fate is a warning for Canada”

Yes it is. Or a warning for the #LaurentianElite, anyway. What country has been playing footsie with the #Chicoms for ten years? What country ships more illegal drugs to the USA than Venezuela? What country is being used as a piggy-bank for a multinational corporation with unseemly connections to South America? What country’s banks have been used as money-laundering fronts in the USA and been busted once already for doing it?

    Uh huh.

Yeah that’s right, and they wouldn’t even need #DeltaForce to pluck the #LittleGuy out of bed. They could send a platoon of New York National Guard up here in a couple of trucks and get it done. Who’s going to tell them no?

Also, I love the strained note in the #Blob&Snail editorial. Like they just found out the party’s over, the music stopped, the cops showed up to shut it all down, but the State Funded Media #Blob&Snail is still drunk-dancing on the bar in pink underwear with a lampshade on their head.

    1. ScotiaBank was busted in the 1980s for laundering drug money. The cartel deposited its drug cash in the Hamilton Bermuda branch and returned to the Miami branch to withdraw it.

      1. I take it you mean the Nova Scotia Bank? They also got caught in a silver pricing scandal a while back as well; silver seems to be in the news again.

The banks in my country are corrupt, but yours are truly dirty.

  18. Trump does not respect the same boundaries that former presidents have. In fact, it’s not clear where his boundaries are. The only thing that seems to be holding him back are America’s own constitutional checks and balances, which he is stressing to the limit.

Is it pearl clutching to openly wonder where it’s going to lead? No, it’s perfectly sensible. Anybody that views recent events and is not concerned is a damn fool.

    1. “. Anybody that views recent events and is not concerned is a damn fool.”– Killer M. No question, Canada is failing so fast Trump may not bother to accelerate it, and we’ll need to suffer a few more years before total collapse. I wish he would aid the end of this shithole sooner.

      1. Canada has truly not been doing well. The Trudeau era was catastrophic, as rather than building a country, Justin imposed a lot of left-wing nonsense that grew government while cutting many private industries down at the knees. It left Canada particularly vulnerable to Trump.

But that doesn’t mean Trump isn’t a concern in his own right. He’s the most powerful man on earth, and seems to recognize few boundaries. And while previous presidents tried to work with other nations to mutual benefit, Trump seems far more of an “America Alone” sort of guy, and that can be dangerous to all.

        1. One of the boundaries he recognises is Boundary Bay. If he ever renames it the Sea of Fringe, I’ll get worried. Until then it’s much ado about very little. Nothing wrong with that, of course. Nice and economical.

        2. It wasn’t just Modern Liberals that weakened us over more than ten years , the last ten just quickened the pace.
Canadian Conservatives failed to show Canadians what was coming a hard task but they didn’t even try, they where to busy being liberal lite.
Nope Modern Liberalism sets a rot into a society. So slowly that by the time the pace is terminal, citizens don’t have the intellectual and moral fiber to call a spade a spade.
I dare say we might just have to share Venezuela’a fate…, as it seems sadly we have earned it. Fk globalisim

    2. Actually, anybody who doesn’t understand what he is doing and why is an idiot. You can sit in your own pot of boiling water if you want, but it is pretty clear you don’t understand the big picture and what China is doing and has been doing for years.

      1. I guess not everyone’s as smart as you, although I notice you don’t actually explain the situation.

        1. Well it is pretty easy to find out if you are so inclined. China essentially owns the Venezuelan oil….it gets it virtually for free by stealing the value from the Venezuelan people who own it. PDVSA used to be one of the most efficient oil companies in the world and when the workers saw what the socialists were doing to the industry, they went on strike and the socialists fired thousands of them…..and down went PDVSA.

Of course, China uses drugs to destabilize the western world…it is a self financing exercise much like Afghanistan selling heroin into the US and other countries to finance their terrorist activities. I wouldn’t expect you to understand the machinations behind it.

          1. So what I wrote yesterday, then.

            https://www.smalldeadanimals.com/2026/01/03/maduro-captured/#comments

China has invested heavily in the Venezuelan oil industry in return for much of its production. Now all bets are off. I have no doubt that thwarting Chinese economic imperialism was part of the motive for Trump’s action. My question, though, is what else does Trump hope to get in return? Does he hope that the Venezeulan oil industry will be re-opened to American companies, or that Venezuelan heavy crude will be refined in America?

        2. I’m no genius, and this is a gross oversimplification, but here’s how I (and I believe Trump) see things:
For decades people who despise western civilization have been trying to destroy it by promoting a stupid, hateful, & destructive ideology. These include individuals (like George Soros), and state actors like China & Iran. The ideology acts like a disease that slowly infects and destroys countries. It destroys western cultural heritage: history, religion, tradition, sense of family, and social norms. It’s endemic in certain political parties and especially in our media. Call it what you like, socialism, communism, liberalism, collectivism, whatever, but don’t doubt it’s effective. Just look around: successful, prosperous, & beautiful countries that didn’t, or couldn’t resist it have turned into shitholes: Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Colombia, Honduras, etc. And it’s growing in central & south America, Europe, Australia, and Canada.
America is one of the most successful & prosperous nations one Earth. But the disease is here, and Trump wants to stop it. That’s what “MAGA” means and it’s why the Democrats hate him. MAGA means to push back against the obliteration of your cultural heritage (and eventually your country). It means fight those with diseased thought, and don’t let them ruin your country.
Taking out Maduro was not just a win-win situation, it was a 6-win situation: 1. Democracy in Venezuela is restored, 2. bad actors are booted out, 3. refugees want to go home, 4. the country returns to prosperity, 5. the US has good relations with the country that has the largest oil reserves on Earth, and 6. the governments of shithole countries in the region (Cuba, Colombia, Nicaragua, & perhaps Mexico) fall like dominoes.

          1. It’s good that Maduro was taken down. Canada didn’t officially recognize him as the legitimate president of Venezuela anyway, so from our point of view it was like taking down Al Capone. And, depending on how it plays out, the people of Venezuela might benefit hugely. At a minimum it can’t be worse.

But in regards to Trump, there’s plenty to worry about. He’s man of erratic temperament who often gets his facts wrong, and has clear imperialistic tendencies. And how he’s firmly established himself as Policeman of the Americas.

          2. Well stated, Mango. You missed adding Canada to your point 6.
As for Marmot’s retort, he sounds like the CBC, and double thinking…
To wit…Oh, good that Maduro is taken down, but Trump is a policeman of the americas.
            The horror! Reconcile, rodent.
Make the Americas great again, from Alaska to Argentina, and get the shit out of the way,
Hey, Alberta comes between Alaska and Argentina, right, Mr, Dictionary?

    3. If you pearl clutch about anything, it should be the state of your own governance.
We don’t have to do a thing to you; you’ll do it to yourselves (or you’ll climb out of your stupor and decide to be a true ally, wouldn’t that be nice?). For now, you’re going to continue down the path you seem to have decided, and at some time in the future (already happening a bit, no?) your people will beg us to come, and we may listen to them and oblige. But we aren’t going to expend the energy to invade you…unless your country/countrymen decide to do something truly stupid; that’s another matter.
      We’ll see what happens.

      1. Yes, yes, yes. Anytime there’s criticism or concerrn about Trump, his fans immediately try to divert the topic.

Precedent set by Trump in Venezuela could backfire against him — former US ambassador
In turn, Lawrence Wilkerson, US Army Colonel (Ret.) and former chief of staff to US Secretary of State Colin Powell, told TASS that large-scale military operations in Venezuela are unlikely
WASHINGTON, January 4. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump, in abducting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, has created a precedent that could potentially backfire against the current US leader himself, Chas Freeman, retired US diplomat, former US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and charge d’affaires to China and Thailand, told TASS.

“It is also, of course, a gross violation of international law and of the sovereign immunity of heads of state and government. It is an act of brigandage that confirms the United States as an international outlaw and sets a precedent that could well be turned against Mr. Trump as the head of state and government in the United States,” the expert is convinced. According to him, Trump, representing the Republican Party of the United States, “removed the government of Venezuela and proposes somehow to govern it.” “That could well compound the disaster he has created,” warned Freeman, who held important positions at the US Department of State and the Pentagon in the past. He served as US assistant secretary of defense in 1993-1994.

“In flagrant disregard of the US Constitution”

“There is nothing good to say about this,” Freeman noted, commenting on the US military operation in Venezuela. “It is further confirmation, if any was needed, that Donald Trump is governing in flagrant disregard of the US Constitution and that his rubber-stamp Congress will not challenge his dictatorship,” the retired official stated.

In turn, Lawrence Wilkerson, US Army Colonel (Ret.) and former chief of staff to US Secretary of State Colin Powell, told TASS that large-scale military operations in Venezuela are unlikely. “It could happen but I would think it unlikely, particularly if the [executive] VP [Delcy Rodriguez] takes the helm and the US appears to support her and begins actually to revamp and modernize the oil infrastructure, which Venezuela badly needs. That of course would mean several of the Majors re-entering the country to do it, just as Trump said would be done,” said Wilkerson.

However, as the retired colonel, now a military analyst and political scientist, explained, his point of view is based, among other things, on the assumption that Maduro’s capture could have been the result of a collusion between part of the leadership in Caracas and Washington.

Overall, he likened the Trump administration’s actions regarding Venezuela to the behavior of the mafia. “This is worse than a cheap thriller; it reads more like a mafia saga than the actions of a great power. Trump is the godfather and [US Secretary of State Marco] Rubio is consigliere [right hand – TASS],” Wilkerson stated.

    1. Along with ranting about how the US will own Greenland , now that the US has kidnapped Maduro , and Trump has attained a short term “win” to mask the US/NATO defeat in Ukraine , he now threatens Venezuela’s new leader, Delcy Rodriguez … obey or else . Trump gives away the plot which certainly seems like dementia at play.

“On Sunday morning, President Donald Trump issued a blunt warning to Venezuela’s new leader, Delcy Rodriguez, that “if she doesn’t do what’s right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than (Nicolas) Maduro,” hours after the former president was captured by US forces from Caracas.”

      1. Newsflash #1: America has some ex-service people who are Marxists and Traitors.
Newsflash #2: Venezuela is a Shithole and whoever stands in the way of it’s emancipation, ideologically or physically, may eat a missile.

      2. Guess you don’t know that Denmark tried to sell Greenland decades ago….and I guess you also don’t know that Greenland is autonomous and can decide for itself whether it wants to align with the U.S. or Denmark. As for Rodriguez, if she is a Maduro puppet she will be gone. Look, I realize you are miffed that the price of your coke has gone up, but that’s your problem.

TASS – That’s Russian bullshit press

Colin Powell was a backstabbing traitor- check out the histiry of the Beirut marines bombing. He did nothing to prevent it and never went after the perpseben though he knew who they were. If you worked for him, you were too. Powell endorsed 1) Hillary, 2) Biden and finally 3) Kamala. He’s a P.O.S.

      1. JohnGalt9944 …
Nice rant but you didn’t address anything that Col. Wilkerson or Ambassador (ret) Freeman actually said regarding the events in Venezuela.

        1. Why should anyone care what Lawrence Wilkerson or Chas Freeman have to say when they have previously said a multitude of stupid things, including denying responsibility for doing his job to review the Iraq intelligence report leading up to the invasion, or that China was justified for murdering protestors in Tiananmen Square? That they were formerly employed by the US government in various roles doesn’t import any sort of wisdom.

  20. The fake news, Globe and Mail, should have gone with the true facts.

No one need shed a single tear for Justin Trudeau, a ruthless dictator who extinguished Canada’s democracy and set its economy into a death spiral.
His sins are many: stolen elections, numerous alleged crimes against humanity, and more than a decade of exploitation of what once was and should still be a prosperous country.

  21. Clutching at pearls actually makes sense, if you’re 300 feet underwater and surrounded by shellfish. Perhaps that’s where the Liberals find themselves. Shellfish bastards…
