12 Replies to “Affordability?”

  1. It’s not just the Democrats. It’s the media and the government bureaucracy. Back when Biden ran the gambling tables inflation sky-rocketed to over 10% (sure it was only 5%). Powell (what an idiot) claimed inflation was transitory, only later admitting it was more toward persistent (a moron with nuance). Biden got not a scratch. Interest rates went negative. The printing presses were running 24-7. Inflation crashed through the roof. And now inflation is 3% (and falling), the stock market is hitting record highs, and Trump is doing a horrible job with the economy. I’ll take that break please.

  2. My president has been in office less than a year and everyday life is becoming more affordable. And this after a truly horrible 4 years of affordability issues.
Part of the ‘affordability’ crisis is societal expectations (everyone must have a 4 year college degree; the average home is now over 2000 sq. ft.; even some of the food choices people make are far removed from the simpler fare of their parents/grandparents) and thus, yes, a hoax, as my President says.
As my parents used to say: people have been sold the idea that they should expect a champagne lifestyle on a beer budget, which by the way was never really ‘the American dream’.

  3. I agree that the Democrats are being both hypocritical and somewhat unrealistic. Having said that, Trump brought it on himself by…

o Repeatedly saying during his campaign “When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day One” and variations thereof. Reducing inflation right out of the starting gate was a central pillar of his campaign.
o Implementing broad tariffs, which are inflationary.

    1. Tariffs hurt the most where internal sources of supply are not readily available. Thus Kanada suffers more under the TurdHole/Carnage tariffs than America will under Trump’s.

Harper dropped 95% of the tariffs on Moat Favoured Nation origin imports to duty-free in hopes it would make Canadian exports cheaper. Instead it moved more production outside as many finished goods (not just production materials) ended up cheaper to import.

      1. Whatever. Seems irrelevant to my point, which is that Trump’s inflation woes seem self inflicted.

        1. Hey KM! In no particular order … here is a list of the MOST SHOCKING inflationary costs that have hit my pocketbook. Now tell me what Trump’s tariffs has to do with any of them.

          – Homeowners insurance UP over 50% in the last two years. No, no claims whatsoever.
          – Automobile insurance UP over 50% in the last two years. No, no claims whatsoever.
          – PG&E gas and electric rates UP >25% in the last two years.
          – Water rates UP 6.5% every year.
          – Safeway bakery raised the cost of a package of rolls from $4.29 to $4.99
          – Bridge tolls UP to $8.50 per crossing.
          – Beef price increases making the occasional steak or prime rib completely OUT of the question.

  4. “Foreign policy must be presented in domestic and preferably economic terms: blowing up a narco-trafficking boat saves thousands of lives.”

The “drug war” has never resonated with the common American voter. Never.
The drug war, like alcohol prohibition, which was enacted back in the same era, were both political in nature.
Normal people don’t care that addicts die from overdoses any more than they care that other people that they don’t know die from other means abusing the liberty they have to make bad choices.

Government does not exist to prevent us from making bad choices.
We don’t need a Nanny State to tell us what to do and punish us for our choices.

What people care about is that their everyday needs in food, shelter, transportation have been made unreasonably difficult to meet by Leftists to serve political ends.

People don’t care what happens in Ukraine, Israel, Venezuela, etc.
They care about what happens in their own household.
