Needless prosecution of a victimless crime, or a case of “the law is the law“?
The administration’s sudden expansion of immigration arrests in Chicago meant Guzmán was in the government’s custody for about 34 hours. She was kept in a holding facility that was intended to house people for only a small fraction of that time… Even though she was still trying to produce breast milk for her daughter, Guzmán had limited access to food and water at the Broadview Processing Center and was never provided a breast pump. She said she was never assessed by a medical professional while in the government’s custody. Guzmán was left to manage the pain of her C-section recovery as well as her Type 1 diabetes with the supplies she had in her backpack at the time of her arrest.

She had the opportunity to leave, and be paid to do it.
She was going for the anchor baby strategy.
Claiming asylum from Mexico?
Exactly.
They’ll soon be seeking asylum from the US….in Canada
Oh boo hoo. The piece was nothing but Demoncr@p propaganda.
“Victimless crime” ?
“Law is the law” ?
This is a direct consequence of Democrats allowing millions of people to cross the border illegally.
Its ALL on those arseholes.
Sorry but the law is the law right liberals, oh wait only when it benefits your side. I feel no empathy.
“Her baby was in the NICU. She was in ICE detention.” Too bad, so sad.
Who’s footing the NICU bill? Mexico? Oh, it’s Illinois, my home state is generously paying for NICU with MY tax dollars which this illegal and her illegal baby are stealing. These two aren’t the only ones sucking the taxpayer well dry. Pritzker is ASSHOLE Johnson is ASSHOLE
C-section, eclampsia, NICU, Type-1 diabetes, insulin pump, continuous glucose monitor, and all the attendant Doctor visits, lab testing, and medications … this woman is an EXPENSIVE burden on our medical system. Has she thought of MAID?
And why weren’t we given the “granular” details of her case … the actual dates of delivery, how long she was in the hospital following her problematic pregnancy and delivery? All they said was “days after her delivery” … yeah … right. Probably 60-days or more after her delivery … but the writer doesn’t want you to count up the $millions in NICU care her baby has already received.
I agree……..BOO HOO….cry me a river already………DON’T DO THE CRIME IF YOU CAN’T DO THE TIME…….absolutely NO sympathy for these freaking illegals…….
“The family, who arrived in the country three years ago…”
I think a few details might be missing.
“I think a few details might be missing.”
That was my first thought as well. How did she end up on their radar? And the source if this, the gender, politics and power focused publication called ” The 19th”? Please….
More details than that gone missing – see my comment above. Yeah, the details of these “poor victims” NEVER look good on paper.
Great marketing piece! Her C-sec involved “cutting through seven layers of tissue”!
I assume the “victimless crime” was her illegal presence in the US?
The largest layer being adipose tissue… much thicker than the tissue of lies offered by this article.
The media suddenly care deeply about “… dozens of cases of pregnant, postpartum and nursing individuals who have been detained and whose health has suffered as a result.” And yet are strangely silent on the topic of citizens raped and murdered by illegals. Almost as if they’ve chosen a side…
They have chosen a side and it ain’t those that want their country back.
FILTHY LIBERALS
Imagine the nerve of the Jail not having a Breast Pump.
WE DON’T CARE!!!
God Damn these FILTHY LIBERALS
Anchor baby?
Yeah … an anchor around the necks of every single payer of medical insurance and medical bills.
None of these stories move me at all, because the responsibility for how things are happening now lies solely with the left.
If they honored the detainers and actually released criminals in their custody to ICE instead of releasing them into the community, ICE could concentrate on the worst illegals instead of doing sweeps.
Just NYC has released most 7000 people this year instead of holding them for ICE.
Several items to note here:
1. This woman had a pending application for refugee status and was awaiting a hearing. So she was here legally. Considering that her application revolved around concern for her personal safety back in Mexico, it’s quite understandable that she wouldn’t want to go back there.
2. Law enforcement officials have a duty of care to those they incarcerate, no matter what. They cannot be nonchalant about detainees’ requirement for medical care. If you think that’s no big deal, be careful what you wish for. You wouldn’t be so indifferent if it was you or a family member in that holding cell.
3. Law enforcement actually has considerable discretion in deciding whether to detain someone or not. Simply because you can detain them, does not mean that you must. Forcibly separating a mother from a newborn, mostly because you’ve got quotas to meet, is engaging in pointless cruelty.
4.Most readers on this forum were rightly appalled at the draconian penalties sought for Tamara Lich, not to mention the relentless harassment leading up to her conviction, for a crime of mischief. The prosecutors have the legal right to do exactly what they did to her; they could have exercised leniency, but chose not to, largely for political reasons. But now that the target is an illegal immigrant, the maximum penalty (deportation) is suddenly the only option?
“1. This woman had a pending application for refugee status and was awaiting a hearing. So she was here legally. ”
For *three years?* And seeking ‘asylum’ from Mexico? Nope…not buying it.
Just another illegal trying to work the system using a ‘anchor baby’.

I see a trend … and it looks utterly fraudulent.
From 19k to 3.2m asylum applications per year in 10 years. Complete and utter FRAUD
Any and all requests filed for asylum, including from Mexico, under the Biden administration are suspect due to the now more then obvious vetting failures. Is it on racial, ethnic grounds? – she looks Indigenous to me. Is it on religious grounds? – doubtful. Fleeing persecution from what exactly – civil war? – nope.
How did she come to the attention of ICE? Border Czar Tom Homan has said repeatedly, paraphrased, if you are an illegal and hanging out with criminal illegals, you will be taken into custody if you are with criminals when they are caught. The simplest explanation is often best. This explanation clarifies missing details.
One item to note here:
You’re repeating uncritically statements from an opinion outlet with a clear agenda that has provided precious little in the way of details or corroboration for their claims. The story as presented has holes you can drive a truck through.
And FFS, she was not “forcibly separated from her newborn”, you hysterical drama queen. The infant was already in the NICU and they were visiting “daily” (assuming that’s even true). She was held for 36 hours and was then released. She had no difficulty managing her diabetes (Type I requires daily shots, so either she was allowed to keep her sharps and insulin despite being detained, or she’s able to completely control it with diet). She missed one visit to the NICU. If her presence was medically critical to the infant’s survival, the hospital wouldn’t have sent her home in the first place.
-F “illegal” not found.
so who paid for the propaganda?
