It has significant implications for Saskatchewan, including power generation, interties, nuclear, and, oh yeah, pipelines and oil production.
What the Alberta-Canada pipeline MOU means for Saskatchewan
Canada-Alberta Memorandum of Understanding, verbatim
Carney’s speech on the Canada-Alberta pipeline MOU, verbatim
Canadian Press:
Eby brands pipeline ‘energy vampire’ as First Nations vow it will never happen
Comments and reaction on Ottawa-Alberta pipeline memorandum of understanding
Is this thing the real deal? Guilbeault resigned over it! It was real enough for him to fall on his sword. I really want to write that story but I need to drive four hours Friday morning so it’ll have to wait.
Headlines I am considering:
Christmas does indeed come in November, as Guilbeault resigns
Ding, dong, the climate witch resigned
His legacy unravelled by Carney’s pipeline MOU, Guilbeault quits cabinet
Hot on the heels of returning from COP30, Guilbeault quits over pipeline MOU
At an end his reign is, and not short enough it was: Guilbeault quits (read it in Yoda’s voice)
Canada’s energy bogeyman quits over pipeline MOU
The climate house he build is falling to pieces, so Guilbeault quits
Climate warrior Steven Guilbeault undone by Carney’s pipeline MOU, resigns in protest
The guy who wanted you to freeze in the dark just quit cabinet
Arguably the man most hated by the Canadian energy sector (besides Trudeau) packs it in
All out of CN towers to climb and economies to ruin, Guilbeault walks the plank
I might just use all of them. I’ll probably have a half dozen more when I wake up. Maybe I’ll make a contest for the best headline.
I will publish his entire resignation letter as soon as I’m able.

THIS IS A FILTHY LIBERAL FARCE.
$20,000,000,000 FOR THE PATHWAYS PROJECT REGARDLESS IF THEY GET A PIPELINE.
CARBON TAX INCREASE.
THIS IS AN EMBARRASSMENT.
SEPARATE NOW!!!!!
WOOHOO! We get a pipeline. Well maybe – by 2040 has been bantered about – but my quick scan only revealed time commitments to expensive net zero commitments and increasing carbon taxes. Being past performance the best guide ,add 45 years and trillions.
One critics take seemed appropriate to me ,”don’t piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining.” Meanwhile as all the world is a stage ,Guilbeait resigns from cabinet. Two weeks after his pension vests of course.
It appears to me to be a catalyzation of generational wealth investment in the largest grifter program ever.
There is no reason to think we will ever get a pipeline when the fedeeral government is opposed to one. The MOU is nothing but a promise to work towards … In the meantime, all Carney’s watermelon policies are forced upon Alberta.
1 AGW hypocrite down – 342 to go.
As long as there is net-zero nonsense in there, no pipeline will happen.
But that whole charade is collapsing, Carney is one of it’s biggest proponents. His GFANZ collapsed and there will be a lot of money to make in oil & gas. Adding carbon pricing to Canadian oil will not happen. They don’t do it for imported oil in the east. Carney will be outed as the fraud he is.
To start with I am 79 and don’t believe I will ever see a pipeline.
Note to Smith, Carney is a liar and a thief. The two lowest life forms on the planet.
Smith seems to be carrying water for Carney. I remember what Smith did to the Wild Rose Party. I’m not sure I trust her.
As a British Columbian I would just like to say.
GO WEXIT
Yeah, no. This boils down to:
The carbon tax, based on the moronic anti-scientific lie of AGW, will be raised.
A single pipeline could theoretically be built subject to a host of unlikely conditions far into the future.
Coles Notes: the corrupt and perennially hostile far-left government in Ottawa has not changed one iota. Moving the enviro-weasel is a gimmick. The West continues to get screwed. The controlled, fake-conservative UCP provincial government gains some temporary credibility so that the illusion of representation is maintained by their Charlie Brown voting reservation.
My prediction is that the cost for a pipeline will stay purposely uncertain by the Liberals for as long as possible, and the costs artificially raised so high that no one steps forward to build it. And then the POSs in Ottawa will claim that they bent over backwards to help get what Alberta wanted done, but Alberta didn’t step up.
Right on W.
Does anyone here think that the pm and guilbeault didn’t discuss this prior to the “MOU” with Danielle?
Guilbealt’s job is done and he didn’t even have to play a part. He can just sit and collect his $200k until his pension kicks in.
There is no canada left. Hasen’t been for decades.
WEXIT or die!
Danielle? Just F-OFF.
Sorry Brian, you will not be using any of those headlines. This resignation is a fake out designed to add credibility to the M O U. he stays in caucus, and he stays as a member of the carney inner circle for Quebec..
“Indigenous, indigenous, indigenous….net-zero, net-zero, net-zero….carbon capture, carbon capture, carbon capture”. Never getting built.
This MOU is very good, no-cost strategy by Danielle Smith;
… ignore the details, we all know the Liberal Party of Canada is a rat
… thus zero international investors (including Blackrock) will come forward to fund the EPCM
… providing her with another card to play, “MOU is not enough”
She’s calling his bluff, in writing.
This strengthens Alberta Independence.
It looks a lot like a Liberal “see, we tried” gambit” to ensure electoral support and to blame Alberta for failure. Carney the leopard hasn’t changed his spots. We need to keep in mind that it isn’t governments that build pipelines, it’s private industry. Will companies be leaping into action with proposals? Probably not. Why bother? There are easier places to invest, like the USA where the eradication of the Net Zero nonsense is essentially complete.
Never lose sight of the fact that Liberals are treacherous liars and deceivers.
The “MOU” is just another piece of paper nonsense.
It might as well be Timmy’s Christmas Toy List.
No Pipeline Corporation, in its right mind, will take on this project, on these terms.
NUTRIEN made it clear why doing business in BC is worse than the Soviet Union.
And then, they would have to give away partial ownership to the perpetually greedy native grifters?
Sorry, this wasn’t a “deal”, this was strictly a political PR stunt, where both grifters, Smith and Carney, are trying to extract political currency for their own selfish needs.
Carney’s are obvious.
Smith is just trying to appear to stave off the Independence movement, with this awful deal.
She really does think you’re stupid.
This is Prentice 2.0
She’s screwing you all over again Alberta.
Time for another new leader, Oy Vey.
Ignore Hans Gruber.
He’s the shiny bauble being waved in your face, while the other hand does the dirty work.
Just like Zelensky and his corrupt henchmen behind the scenes, stealing western money for their luxury hideaways they will soon need.
The Saskatchewan Alberta MOU has some value,a step in the right direction.
The Carney/Smith MOU is a farce.
It is impossible that Danielle is this stupid, she knows, like every Westerner, that a Liberal promise is always a lie.
So what is she doing?
Setting the stage so that she can openly support Independence, claiming that she did everything she could ,in good faith,to preserve federation?
Only to be stabbed in the front by the federal fools?
For a Carney promise is worthless, betrayal of said promise will be damn near immediate and Ottawa will continue to waste, destroy and steal.
I will wait for the referendum.
Danielle Smith cannot pull another ,floor crossing, party cancelling “In good faith” move, she has already done so (Wild Rose Party),eroding any trust in her judgement..Being fooled and used by big promising male politicians..Is this her weakness?
Wanting to believe?
Dividing the Western Vote is a huge fear factor..Used to prevent Albertans from punishing our cowardly representatives.
Punish the lying lazy progressive conservatives and we get NDP..
The Alberta Prosperity Project is the only way to go.
Create the groundswell first, trust the politicians to leap to the front of the parade later.
And money talks.
Pretty hard to argue against ,more wealth, real rights and freedoms and a future for your children..
When all Canada offers is deeper slavery, greater government thuggery and more abuse from idiots..
Idiots with their hands in our pockets.
The abusive relationship is over, the beaten spouse ain’t feeling any love.in them “sweet promises” for 2040.
I have yet to see any argument for the West to remain in Can Ahh Duh..Has anyone here seen such an argument?
All I see is attempts at fear mongering.
I agree – except for one thing: how sure are you that “The Alberta Prosperity Project” hasn’t become a false flag project intended to weaken Alberta’s position by losing? Right now I don’t think they’ll get 20% of the vote largely because they seem to lack any clear plan on what to do if they win. To me it seems they’re saying “give us power and we’ll fix it” and no sane person is going to support that.
What is needed is a government sponsored referendum asking Albertans for authority to negotiate an agreement on an economic union with the U.S. to be voted on if the federal government fails to live up to its promises to Alberta. That would get an 80% yes vote in both Alberta and Saskatchewan and force the feds to choose between treating the west fairly or blowing up the country.
Here is the post on X from a Kirk Lubimov. Good call. IMO.
Here is a breakdown of the most important parts of Danielle Smith’s deal with Mark Carney aka MOU between Alberta and Canada:
* will make a pipeline a National Interest Project – “if”
* one or more pipeline.
* clean electricity regulations will be suspended – the best part of the deal but not because it’s bad policy but because of carbon capture etc.
* oil and gas emissions cap won’t be implemented but it kind of is because of the methane and carbon capture requirements.
* tanker ban changes possible if everyone is in agreement. This is really the very final part and only if the Major Projects Office doesn’t approve it.
* use Canadian steel and pipeline construction.
* work on nuclear strategy.
* increase the industrial carbon tax from 95 a tonne to a *minimum* of 130 a tonne.
* net-zero by 2050.
* Pathways Plus – use the uneconomical carbon capture. Will be building the largest one out there.
* methane reduction from oil industry by 75% below 2014 levels by 2035.
* strongarms co-ownership with First Nations – backed by taxpayers of course.
* EVERYTHING is carbon tax and carbon capture dependent: Canada and Alberta agree that the Pathways Project is also a prerequisite to the approval, commencement and continued construction of the bitumen pipeline.”
So Mark Carney got all the green agenda items he wanted with Alberta’s industries facing more costs, insiders will line up their pockets from the irrational carbon capture stuff, taxpayers will reward First Nations and be on the hook for all the risk and maybe Alberta will get a pipeline one day if someone private sector wants to step up and still deal with all the headaches with final peanuts hitting taxpayer pockets.
Mark Carney already said that everyone – including BC and First Nations have to agree even though they have no veto.
This beyond amateur of a deal that surrenders Alberta to Ottawa and the UN all because of desperation for ribbon cutting by politicians instead of just getting rid of bad policies and get building.
Huge thanks to our betters in Ottawa for granting us the possibility of someday maybe (but not really) being allowed to sell our products if we promise to be good little serfs and do as they command and keep sending them wheelbarrows full of money to keep fueling their corruption.
We deserve every single spanking the Liberals give us.
Alberta-Sask-Man-Yukon-NWT all agree to “energy corridor” from Sea to Sea.
That’s a MOU with standing.
Offer it up to the feds and Trump!
