How it started: Calgary city councillors have voted not to change the rules capping late-night sound levels during the Calgary Stampede, despite encouragement from the provincial government.

Officials with Country Thunder Alberta announced the cancellation of the 2026 music festival on Wednesday, which was set to be held this weekend.
In a news release, officials cited “city-created safety and operational barriers” as the reason behind the decision.
“After exhaustive efforts to find a workable path forward, the organization has determined that conditions created by the City of Calgary, including active construction surrounding the festival site and new restrictive sound limitations, make it impossible to stage the event for 2026,” they said.
Very nanny state of them, I can’t imagine anyone moving into near the downtown core (this is only a few blocks from the actual downtown core) and wanting quiet.
That’s not why people live there.
If the City Council wanted to do something to help those living in the near to downtown core, they’d do something instead of nothing with the growing and obvious litter problem, and more so with the growing aggressive homeless and drug addition problem. It’s everywhere now, and it certainly wasn’t anything like it is now, pre mass unimpeded immigration or pre covid times.
What caused it? The only major change to this country seems to stem from the addition of millions of “new Canadians” and the group which brought this upon us all, is the federal #Librano gov’t. Covid didn’t make them unemployable, covid didn’t hike food and living spaces costs, only the federal gov’t is responsible for this.
I blame them, for everything wrong with the country, though some others may be to blame as well, the primary and leading role has been our garbage level federal government.
There is no end to their treachery.
Excavating the venue property to run a pipeline right when it is needed didn’t help either. The worst part is that these same idiots on council will be re-elected next election. All the city managers will also still have their jobs.
Farkus is not the same guy who willingly bunted heads with Gondyke and the Purple Princess in the past. He came out this last election as an idiot land acknowledger making him unfit for mayor.
