Blacklock’s- Feds Like $25K French Fines

Federally regulated transport employers must conduct business in French as well as English under threat of $25,000 fines, Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault said yesterday. Penalties will be initially enforced on three corporations and major airports nationwide.

“People traveling in Canada should be able to receive services in French and English anywhere, anytime,” Guilbeault said in a statement. “These draft regulations reinforce the genuine equality between these two languages.”

  1. That should be “former” heritage minister Hans Gruber, it resigned from cabinet over the deal with Alberta. I notice not from the libranos, or his seat, hey, the pension clock has to keep ticking.

Inter provincial trucking is federally regulated, what about all the companies that conduct business in Punjabi neither?

    1. If you see a sign in Chinese only in the window of a Chinese-owned business in Montreal, it usually means something to the effect of “Help Wanted. Only Chinese Need Apply.”

The language police don’t care about that, obviously. The target of the language laws was the English-speaking (Christian and Jewish) business community. The CCP were never going to stand for “Sinophobic” government policies from any government under their control, least of all Quebec’s.

  2. I read that as “$25k in French fries” and the funny part was I thought it totally plausible that the government spent $25k on French fries.

  3. Are we back to this nonsense again?…..my brother was the CO of a recruiting center years ago and all of the recruiting center CO’s were summoned to a meeting at DND HQ in Ottawa….during the meeting, they were told that the examinations that were given to determine suitability for various trades in the military would be the same for English and French speakers…..BUT, the pass marks for Francophones we LOWER than for English. When asked why, the answer was simply…..”cultural differences”. What a screwed up country…..but then you know that when the motto has been for years “Canada is united by its two languages”. I have never heard such rubbish in my life.

  4. French in BC is practically non-existent. Our second language here is Chinese…third is Punjabi.
