last theatre flic l watched, premier release of Ron Howard’s Heart of the Sea.
a whole decade ago. who goes to these premiers anymore?
Well … it’s all because of Amazon … just like how Amazon has killed retail … so too, Amazon Prime has killed Hollywood. That’s what all the leaders of San Francisco have claimed. It’s not rampant retail crime, homeless dregs, or sidewalk feces … nahhhhhh … Amazon killed San Francisco retail.
And that will be Hollywood’s excuse. Yeah, Amazon Prime killed Hollywood. And YouTube killed Hollywood. And all those Apple Podcasts killed Hollywood. And Mel Gibson killed Hollywood (damn “Jew hater”).
Nahhh … it’s not the content. It’s not the unpopularity of yet another 2sLGBTQueer-mutant-IA-MAP ‘coming of age’ story nobody wants to see. Not ANOTHER leftist woke rehash of America’s slavery past? *Sigh*. Yeah, yeah, Hollywood … America is shit. Capitalism is shit. Keep filming that … and keep losing audiences.
And speaking of Amazon Prime … I just watched a wonderful John Candy biography on Prime titled “I Like Me”. As a huge (sorry) John Candy fan … I found it really emotional and touching. He and John Hughes were close personal friends and writing collaborators. Candy was featured in 9- John Hughes films. Each film portrayed Candy in a really human and sympathetic way. RIP John Candy and John Hughes.
Not everything from Toronto is suspect. Some people are truly special.
Yes, that’s it!
Clearly, Hollywood has not injected enough sexual perversion and insanity into movies to maintain customer’s interest.
For the last 4 years they couldn’t even keep pace with the Biden administration.
Let’s say it’s not the content but rather the venue. Recently released movies should be “flying off the shelves” once they hit Amazon or Netflix. So what is the most recently released movie you’ve watched? Mine is probably Gravity (2013), which was the last time I entered a theatre (which was empty).
I live in the country. People come out to visit me and say it must be scarry at night. I reply it’s nothing like living in the city. You couldn’t get me in a theatre these days no matter what the movie was. I will wait the 6 months. Plus the homemade popcorn, the dogs at your feet, a roaring fire …
…the dogs at your feet, a roaring fire …
AKA, hot dogs. 😉
Ba-dump-tssss
Having a 65″ screen at home to watch things on helps a lot too.
The last time I was in a local (white suburban) theatre … I saw The Matrix … the first Matrix. Let’s just say my viewing enjoyment was ruined by loud, obnoxious, people … NOT my people … who were talking on their phones, receiving calls, and ruined the darkened theatre with their bright phone screens. Then, there was their constant loud comments about everything happening in the film. I almost left the theatre and said bye-bye to my $8.00 entry fee. I stuck it out … but never have gone to a theatre ever since … and that was before George Floyd empowered these people to become hyper obnoxious.
faster please…..
