From Foggytrucker;

Those of us who are friends of Canada are sad. When Trump was first talking about tariffs Canada reacted with outrage, and a lot of us didn’t blame them. We had supposedly a USMCA – but then we found out about the dairy subsidies, a Vermonter told me that’s a contributing reason that a lot of dairy farms in northwest Vermont have turned into McMansions. But then Canadian liberals started to preen and say we couldn’t do anything without Canada.

So Trump, with his usual grating braggadocio, pointed out that economically Canada does not produce as much as California, and I think one other state as well. He was pointing out that Canada is not indispensable, that economically you count as much as one of our 50 states. He WAS NOT threatening Canada – ask the Iranians what he says when he’s fixing to attack a country. You could say he was pointing out that if a European company had to choose between angering a country that is economically smaller than California, or angering a country of which California is merely a large part, the small money will lose. Math doesn’t care that Canada is a really nice place.

And yes, as an old MoPar man the fact that Chrysler is now Stellantis is sad too. Hollowing out our Rust Belt was almost as stupid as letting the Left run education – or getting in a urinating contest with Canada. Many wish Trump was more diplomatic – but we couldn’t stay on our old path.

We in the United States above all are sick and tired of being taken. We’re sick of paying for the UN, paying for NATO, and sacrificing our farmers so that Canadians can continue to milk cows in French. Please stop using us for a political football – whether it’s the libs screaming about being indispensable or your head banker raising his elbows at us, whatever that means. (I know it’s somehow from hockey, Americans outside Minnesota or northern New England do not have a clue.) We wish we didn’t have Trump, but no other politician is willing to stand up to being called a racist and a National Socialist, and we are sick of politicians who hide when the Left gets nasty. Both sides of the border have to deal with Trump, let’s talk. There are millions of Americans who would like to see Canada succeed. It is not our wish to see the Republic of Alberta succeed, although we will help it and wish it well if it comes to that.

BTW – keep pushing Trump and you’re likely to hear him say “Vive le Quebec libre”. Don’t think he doesn’t know.

  1. I wish I was an American if for no other reason than to have the legitimacy to say “I voted for everything Trump has done and is doing”.

In the meantime I hope and pray everyday that Canada becomes a legitimate part of the USA protected by their constitution as opposed to some ridiculous trade union

      We appreciate you Foggytrucker^^^^
You need to stop apologizing for President Trump.
You are so lucky to have a leader like this great man.
Your country would be in civil war without President Trump, even though FILTHY LIBERALS think he is the worst.

Canada deserves everything we get and more. All we had to do was :
      ATTACK THE FENTANYL LABS
      SECURE THE BORDER
      DON’T CREATE COUNTER TARIFFS

Canada’s BRILLIANT Banker placed Extra Counter Tariffs, did nothing about Fentanyl, and left our border a mess.
      GOVERN ME HARDER DADDY!
      FILTHY LIBERALS

      1. F.Trucker had me cheering and laughing about milking French cows … until …
” We wish we didn’t have Trump …”

Why? Because he mocks the mockable? I MUCH prefer that over ignoring the absurdly dangerous and destructive. George Bush insisted (still insists) that Islam is the Religion of Peace? Really? Has he been to Nigeria recently? Does he consider genociding African Christians to be “peaceful”. “Republicans” like Bush … Romney … McCain … are polite FOOLs who would happily surrender America to the Reparations crowd not to mention the LGBTQueer-mutantMAPs

  2. In his first 9 months as US president, Donald Trump has managed to wake up sleepy Canadians, who have been in a Liberal dream state for a decade while the country gets deeper in debt. Trump has also managed to piss off the left, universities, and the do-nothing Democrats, which counts as a win in my book. Oh, and he brokered a peace deal with Hamas, some of the worst terrorists in the world. But he dresses like a car salesman, speaks in caps, and is not exactly a feminist. So the bien pensants on both sides of the border dismiss him as a buffoon and long for the athletic elegance of Barack Obama, who gave Iran a free nuclear pass, cobbled together an expensive and sorta private public health care system and indulged in Chicago style dirty tricks against his political foes. I know who I’d vote for in a heartbeat, and it’s not the guy on the cover of Ebony Magazine.

    1. Been saying essentially this for a long, long time, and applies across the western world.
People would rather they be lied to, very nicely, by a smooth talking, well coiffed charlatan.
They can’t handle the unvarnished truth of a straight shooter.

This is where we are today and explains the love affairs with Obama, Trudeau, and the absolute, unhinged hatred of Trump. What you see is what you get.

Now, almost everyone is a snowflake that can’t handle straight talk. They need smoke blown up their ass, all while being coddled as a super special creature in their bubble.

No, the last If Women Ran The World post explains how we got here. Those people were elected primarily by women.

    2. Athletic elegance of Obama? So … you’ve never seen him actually attempt to play basketball or throw a football? And his only elegance is reading a teleprompter smoothly. Have you heard him speak extemporaneously? He sounds like a D- middle school student who smoked a bowl before class. OTOH … Trump can speak for hours extemporaneously and never miss a beat or fail to entertain.

      Elegant? Obama?

  3. I’ve been really enjoying how much Trump has upset smug, ignorant Canadians.
Canada has been a parasite for a long time.
The Confederation has become a joke – why Alberta is still a part, I don’t know.
The sooner Trump says – in his own way lol – “Vive le Quebec libre”, the better.

    1. That’s still an arrow in his quill.
Looking forward to that day of unhinged outrage from Central Canada.
That will be a double down moment for the ages.
Financially, Canada is doomed by its governments, and I say this as someone that will be getting the gubmint pensions in a few years. Might be……rocky. But this country is no longer functional, it’s just hanging on by hook and by crook.
It won’t take much to break it apart.
Trudeau’s Divide and Conquer rulership saw to that!

  4. Trump is aligning our hemisphere. Canada is in our hemisphere. There will be a role for Canada and it is likely as its own country– unless Canada’s own policies lead to its internal dissolution. That will be unfortunate for the hemisphere it seems to me– but as an American– self-determination is important and sloughing off parasites is in my DNA. I’d welcome an Alberta, a Sask and the saner parts of BC if there are any.

  5. I can’t disagree with much said here. Canada has been, is and probably always will be a vassal state. However his comment about not wishing that America has Trump is the tell that this author is still in the camp of the indoctrinated GMG (Goebbels/Milgram/Grandin) syndrome.

Canada is still in the grips of the Trudeau malaise, we have never come to grips with the fact that government’s only purpose is to protect and preserve the people that organized it. Government is not there to pansy to every vocal minority that expects government to fulfil their every wish. Until we understand that we are masters of our own fate and strive to that end, we will be fodder for every charlatan and poofter that promises the moon. These political and bureaucratic characters that have governed the country supposedly on our behalf for our own benefit have in essence sold us into penury and slavery for over seventy years and they are not finished with us yet.

  6. The greatest service Trump has done to this country is to expose Canadian Conservatives for the chicken-shit hypocrites that they are.

  7. Comparing Canada’s economy to California’s is as much a joke as comparing Fort MacMurray’s to Hollwood’s. Ft. Mac is a producer; Hollywood is a playground. One makes money, the other just circulates it. As to America’s forever tariffs on softwood lumber, look at the difference between forest operations in BC and in Washington state .. their puny truckloads of logs being a good indication of where their problem lies.

    1. That comment displays ignorance on a galactic scale. Hollywood is perhaps 3% of California’s economy. It is the western financial center, home to the US’s largest ports and you might have heard of silicon valley, the napa valley, etc, etc. It is poorly run, but only compared to other states, compared to Canada it is a paradise of economic freedom. Their problem? You mean those guys with a GDP per capita 40% higher than Canada’s? Love to have their problems.

  8. “Those of us who are friends of Canada are sad.”

There is no need to be sad. Sitting here today, in Ontario, it is my humble opinion that Donald Trump has done more for Canadians than any Prime Minister of this nation, ever. Every time he kicks the corrupt a-holes in Ottawa in the nether regions, it is a blow for freedom. They’re selling Canada to China, one brick at a time. Disrupting this treason is the greatest service any man has ever done for Canada.

And do not think that the masses of Normies in this country will shed a tear for the USA and Americans. They consider you low class. Uneducated and vile. They are disdainful, and cheer your enemies. Watching them take it on the chin is a great source of entertainment to me.

  9. We in the United States above all are sick and tired of being taken.

Trump would have us believe that the US is a hapless mark that’s been taken advantage of all these years. The truth is nothing like that.

The US has had illegal (as in, “found in violation of trade treaties”) lumber tariffs against Canada for decades. These tariffs have been vastly more damaging than Canada’s dairy supply management, which I don’t approve of but at least has been agreed to by all parties. There have been many excuses for the lumber tariffs, but everyone knows their real purpose: to put money in the pockets of US lumber companies at the expense of US home owners.

  10. The softwood lumber dispute is over how stumpage fees are calculated. Canadian fees are government set. US fees are market driven. Canadian fees are generally lower. The US view this as an unfair government subsidy.

    1. That’s the excuse that the US lumber industry uses, certainly. The World Trade Organization has consistently found that it is not a subsidy. Further, in Canada the forestry companies bear the cost of reforestation, while in the US the costs are borne by the land owners, whether private or public.

They’re two different systems, and it’s easy to cherry pick specific aspects to make it look fair or unfair to US forestry companies.

        1. Cootie Perry lost her cherry, a long long time ago.
Long before Blackie, the globo lackey, latched onto that skanky ho.
          Yo.
stevie the budding poet, don’t cha know it

      1. The WTO, and all other globalists, can MYOB. This is between Canada and the US. Foreigners don’t need to voice their opinion, on anything.

        1. The US was one of the founding members of the World Trade Organization, and has agreed to abide by its decisions.

The US is free, of course, to rescind all that. But until that happens, they should be held to its rulings.

          1. You’re okay with the US being a member of the WTO, but the US should only abide by its rulings when it feels like it. Is that about it?

      2. Many sawmills in the USA are owned by canadian companies:

West Fraser: A top producer in North America with a large number of sawmills in the southern U.S.
Canfor: Operates sawmills across several southern states.
Interfor: Owns numerous sawmills in the U.S. and accounts for the majority of its lumber output in the U.S.
Others: Other Canadian firms such as Tolko Industries, Maibec Inc., J.D. Irving, and Kruger Inc. also own or operate sawmills and land holdings in the United States.

        1. I’m aware, as I’ve owned stock in a couple of those companies. I still own some West Fraser.

The acquisitions have accelerated recently. Part of it, I’m guessing, is a reaction to the pine beetle which has devastated BC’s forests, but mostly I think it’s a defense against tariffs.

    2. And responsibilities vary. In Alberta loggers build hundreds of miles of decent roads, replant infinitely more timber than they harvest, and are generally responsible for forest management. The Alberta government spends almost nothing on forests other than fire fighting.

  11. Foggytrucker should take note of the fact that the Trump “We wish we didn’t have…” (perhaps he has a mouse in his pocket?) is exactly why Stellantis just committed to investing billions to restore and return automobile manufacturing to the rust belt.
As for not wishing for the Republic of Alberta to succeed, that is absurd. I can think of nothing that would be better, economically and politically not just for Albertans, but also for Canadians and Americans. Separation might be the last and only hope of waking Ottawa to the fact that citizens of the Western provinces will not be shit upon forever.

    1. Yup. Who’s ‘we’? I don’t care who it is, just interested in results. Not just trade and economics but our entire social structure. America stands alone on refuting the insanity of this ‘progress’ the last 30 years.

    2. Stellantis is going down the shitter. It is a shell of its former self. Minivans are dead and it doesn’t seem to sell the pickups it used to.

  12. So many things here. First off, the US dictated the New World Order after WW II. It was not taken advantage of, it offered money, market access, and protection in exchange for allegiance. Those who agreed became the West, everyone else became “Commies” and bad guys. Countries were able to sell into the US because the US want them to in order to control them.

US presidents treated Canada like a vassal for years, ordering Canada to comply with everything from what we were allowed to produce (hint, not the Arrow) to how to vote at the UN, and backed everything up with threats if we dared disagree. And yes, we were thrown a few bones, like the auto-pact, but for the most part we were regarded as a useful annoyance, not as a friend or ally. It was only under the Mulroney-Reagan era that the dynamic began to change. Reagan understood the value of willing friends in a way his predecessors did not. And Mulroney understood the changing dynamic and capitalized on it. And that dynamic carried the relationship from the 80’s to Trump II.

Trump faced up to two hard facts that his predecessors would not look at, first the world changed drastically since the fall of the USSR, and second that the US will go broke if it doesn’t change its ways. Trump seems to have decided to solve both problems by walking away from the US’s previous agreements and by re-shoring as much as possible by shutting down access to American markets. This is going to cause a lot of hurt for the entire planet, including the US as they don’t have the raw materials or technology to go it alone anymore. By the time the dust settles the average US citizen is going to find themselves living in a more expensive, less technologically advanced country then they currently do. (It was going to happen anyway, Trump is just making it happen sooner and harder.)

The Canadian elite never governed for the good of Canada, they governed to advance their own interests. It just so happened that advancing their own interests was mostly good for most of Canada. That changed under the Chretien Liberals as their interests are outside the country. BTW, if the west wants a fair shake, they need to get someone with interests in the oil industry into positions of influence on the federal level.

One last thing, a vote for Quebec separation will never win unless the rest of the country gets to participate. That’s why the CAQ is looking to simply legislate itself as not bound by any federal law or statute. Living in your parents home by your own rules but with full access to the car, refrigerator, and bank account. It’s an immature teenager’s wildest dream.

    1. Quebec is currently just ahead of Mississippi in terms of Gdp per capita at $48,529 versus $47,190. Once they lose equalization they will fall behind, let alone when they lose the Canada Health Transfer and Canada Social Transfer, which add about $29.3 billion to their government spending.

    2. Canada is further in debt, not growing and getting worse. It will go broke well before the US. Shithole.

    3. ordering Canada to comply with everything from what we were allowed to produce (hint, not the Arrow)

That sound is your credibility imploding at the speed of light.

If you’re getting your history from Liberal hacks writing Liberal propaganda for the Liberal propaganda TV network, you’re a laughingstock.

  13. l attribute The Donald with possibly postponing and if so definitely for some 20 years the advent of that horrible murphy’s law dominos that lranian nukes trigger WW III.

  14. I recognize that your President is brash and not particularly diplomatically inclined. Perhaps, a slightly different approach with his wording might not have set-off as many idiots here in Canada. Perhaps “protectorate” might have been a better offer (a protected union) rather than calling us a 51st state. Lets face it, that is what Canada has enjoyed being for decades.
By the time things are done and said, I’ll bet my bottom dollar that is what what Canada will become. Under the defense and security umbrella of the USA, with some version of our current crooked government continuing to govern.
    … Just my two cents…
