Outside of a federal election every six months, I don’t see what could possibly prevent this ship from sinking.
Canada Post reported a loss before tax of $407 million in its second quarter as its parcels business fell due to labour uncertainty.
The company said its mail volume increased in the quarter, but it was largely driven by one-time federal election mailings, while parcels declined sharply as customers chose other carriers due to the labour uncertainty.

Unlike the US Mail, postal services provided by Canada Post are not constitutionally protected. FIRE THEM ALL! FIRE EVERY LAST UNIONIZED BUREACRAT!
End their first class mail monopoly and give all the property assets to the Posties as a Co-op. They can then compete with others, borrowing on their assets to provide working capital. It would be a thing of beauty watching them torment over business decisions vs their parasitic and politically activist union and whether they choose survival (decertification) over brain-dead union solidarity. My money (no longer going to them) would be that within 6 months the banks would own all the assets and they and their union would be gone from the system.
Everything the government does turns to shit. Because they strategically hire from the bottom of the barrel. Esp. in the executive suite.
What would happen if Canada Post was shut down?
It’s a serious question, and I’m not sure what the answer is. I can probably do without it, but I’m not the only person or institution in this country.
Remove all parcel service from Canada Post, they own Purolator Courier, they can be the parcel division. They can even share the buildings and vehicles when necessary, but two separate but shared businesses.
Leave Canada Post for mail and flyers only.
When the government is your largest customer, you are well and truly screwed.
