I grew up about 10 minutes NW of there, times have changed. Seems the justice system needs a heads up.
Right? I grew up around Hamilton Ont. and places where I rode my bike as a kid now have drive-by shootings.
And it all happened pretty much since Covid. Certainly in the last ten years. Gee, what happened ten years ago to cause all this destruction?

If I had a FU money, it would interesting to take a shot at some “creative” litigation. By allowing this crime and behavior (both on behalf of the retailer and the local legal offices of the municipality) to continue, the retailer adds cost to other products to accommodate. Law abiding citizens then end up supporting this added cost and everything is more expensive.
In a way, the retailer and the municipality are making the law abiding customer complicit in a crime by financially supporting the act indirectly.
Now, the defense of this is obvious. You are not forced to shop at Dollarama. True. BUT, the behavior transcends all retailers as the municipality fails to prosecute in a blanket form. So, all retailers basically make you complicit indirectly in a crime, and takes choice of retailer out of the equation. As I said….creative. But, maybe this is something that has to be considered. Give the retailer and the municipality a choice. Continue down this road to destruction and encouragement of crime, or face two expensive propositions instead of just one.
There is no doubt in my mind … as I have been a longtime continuous patron of Home Depot … that not only have they had to put valuable building materials behind cages … but they’ve inflated their prices to cover rampant shoplifting losses.
I PERSONALLY witness people walking out of the store with armloads of tools on nearly every trip I take to the Concord, CA Home Depot. And yeah … the clerks see it … and do absolutely nothing. Not so much as call security or anything. Yeah … I stopped going to THAT Home Depot.
This is sad. I live in Idaho. It is rare to see any goods locked up.
Given that, arguably the only legitimate roles of the state are Police, Military, and the Courts, and Canada is failing at each miserably, perhaps we should move to anarcho-capitalism. As Heinlein used to say, “an armed society is a polite one”.
