5. I doubt Newsom’s high-speed rail will ever actually run. Sold to voters with an estimated cost of $33 billion, that now approaches $120 billion. Sold to voters as an 800 mile system, that is now down to about 120 miles.

   1. The “highest speed” the train will go is about 75mph between Modesto and Clovis. My son has ridden the Japanese bullet trains … which are spotless clean … and they even change doilies on the headrests after every trip.

      The current CA culture is about as opposite Japan’s as humanly possible.

6. Sounds exactly like Calgary’s “Green Line LRT”. Actual distance keeps getting shorter while costs keep tripling. Mayor GoneDyke mad because Premier Smith is cutting off funds.

7. Meanwhile, back in Canada…

   In 2020 Via burned $668 million from the government to haul a million passengers. Each ticket they sell costs taxpayers $668. Passenger trains in Canada are pure horse crap. It would be way cheaper to build roads to the few isolated communities that actually rely on rail.
