With all of the consternation in the world these days, we sense that you’re not feeling very groovy. To fix that, here are a pair of videos of San Francisco in the late 1960’s.

  1. I lived in Marin County where the second video was filmed as a kid in the mid to late 60’s Even as a kid you could tell San Francisco was “special”. On hot days we would drive into the city to cool off and for my brother and I to look at all the “freaks”. My brother and I being the little shits we were,through some pebbles at some Hells Angels as we drove past them. A couple of them followed us for a bit with my parents getting a bit concerned. We heard them ask each other, why are they following us to which my brother piped up about throwing the gravel at them. We paid the price later. Lots of fun to live there at that time.

    2. Those look like the roads I drove from the East Bay on the way to Stinson beach for a high school “cut day” in 1972 … the long way there. The Marin hills and backroads are simply beautiful … which is why so many Rock Stars bought property there.

  4. Yeahhhhh … “the affluence and materialism of our industrialized society and the market economy … but when that’s not good enough?” … the old fool narrates in the late 1960’s suggesting the enlightened hippies were better than that …

    Sadly, the PBS puff piece failed to mention that less than 20 years later … that hippie generation became known as the gimme gimme gimme generation of the most money-crazed generation ever. Inheriting and spending the wealth carefully cultivated by their “square” parents.

    Yeah … so much for peace, love, and a different way of living. Now, the wealthiest, greediest, most materialistic people in our society are the fossilized husks of those hippies. They now use their fortunes to not only TELL YOU how to live … but they govern to MAKE YOU live the way they decree. Most of those hippies changed NOTHING … and now they are just wrecking the beautiful country and culture handed to them by their “square” parents.

      On a more serious note, I’m all in favour of schweinie-lovers persisting in their blockheaded reality-denial about the state of affairs in Russian kleptocracy (which they call “economy”) for as long as possible. It will make it ever more entertaining to observe the crisis (which was seen from miles or rather months away) unfolding.

        1. Your heartfelt concern for the Russian economy is touching, but you need to remember the old Russian expression: “Moscow does not believe in tears”.

          1. No worries, I do remember it. I also remember the full sentence, which goes “Moscow does not believe it tears; it craves blood”. Believed to have originated from the nighbours of early Muscovy whom it subjugated and was treating rather harshly. As everyone can see, not much has changed since then.

You’ve made a fool of yourself so many times here with your predictions (how many years it is since you pompously said “the seemingly endless stream of aid for Ukraine will soon dry out”?) that I’m sure you would have killed yourself long ago if you had any dignity left.

        Loopy, I realise that it’s far beyond the intelligence of a caveman’s dog like you are, but you’re doing exactly what I’d like you to do: persisting in blockheaded denial. Looking forward to see your claiming that currency exchange rates and stock market indexes are fake, photos and videos are doctored, etc.

    1. What I remember from the coverage at the time. Regional firefighters volunteered to show up but park authorities turned them around and sent them home. It might not have mattered as Jasper fire hydrants were a different size than every other town in the world thanks to Parks Canada’s brilliance.

      1. I looked back. For the Jasper fire the Government of Alberta provided 250 wildland fire fighters for a fire they didn’t cause outside their jurisdiction. Yet, apparently, it is Alberta’s fault.
